Just to be sure I wasn't imaging it, I've eaten the bread and and buns on four successive days AFTER recording this video and am absolutely feeling significant inflammation in my knees and knuckles. Everything else I have eaten over that period has been clean keto, which means it's something in this product. Additionally, the glucose spikes I have seen have been consistent (30+ points) as well.
Yeah. These "keto" friendly bread products need to be eaten sparingly, even if you don't have issues with wheat gluten, etc. At least I find that's true for me.
I love Hero bread products-their brioche buns are awesome. I have glucose issues and eat a keto diet to control it. These products do not give me a spike (I wear a Dexcom G6) and I thought their product are delicious. I will say the seeded bread has lots more "bread" flavor than the plain. I see lots of complaints about cost. ALL low carb food tends to be expensive-I don't like it but it's the reality. This has become a staple in my home and I am so glad to have found it.
I just want to give you kudos on your videos. They are such a pleasure to watch. You have virtually no "time filler" in these types of videos, which you absolutely could do. Thank you SO SO MUCH for your work, not just what you do but the quality of what you do. It's just outstanding.
Still waiting on my Unbeliveabun order. In the meantime I accidently came across the Hero bread on sale at Publix. So I gave it a try. Toasted well. I made a fried egg and cheese sandwich. Several hours later I noticed I wasn't tired or sleepy. Which usually happens after eating such a sandwich. I was very pleasantly surprised. Thank you for your videos.
@@SeriousKetohello, have you done a new video on this or test? I ordered my hero white bread today. I heard that they now use olive oil instead of canola oil and that they use resistant wheat starch for the main ingredient. I suffer from gestational diabetes during my pregnancy so finding a bread that doesn’t spike the glucose has been critical. Please let me know if you give the white bread a try again - thank you so much for your review.
I love this bread, flavor, texture and nutritional values. The croissants are so amazing. Please do a current test with the newer ingredients. I appreciate your videos and enjoy you and your family contents.
Thanks for this. The lack of information from the company, sky-high prices, and your review makes it clear to not waste the money. Sola bread is my current favorite.
I found the burger buns at my store buy 1 get 1 so it was half off! glad to hear this info! I also only eat 1 side of the bun a day using lettuce as top bun to help lessen the impact as well. Thanks so much for doing this!
Thank you. I know it is a lot to sacrifice to do these types of videos. I did order the buns for an occasional burger or hotdog. But not for everyday use. Thanks again for taking one for the team. It is much appreciated. 😊
My son and his wife started keto last May . After seeing how well my health has improved and my weight loss at 67 years young . They told me they buy this bread and love it . So pricey though for me . Thanks Steve but some of those ingredients also would cause inflammation for me
I really appreciate your reviews as I know it is a lot of work and money. Thanks for continuing them. It really helps me decide what I should and should not try.
I don’t comment on videos ever but I’m a fan of your channel and have been eating Hero bread for the past month as part of a low carb/keto diet and low calorie diet. I personally love this product. A little about myself, I was a type 2 diabetic, now pre-diabetic. I did strict keto a few years back but couldn’t keep up with it. About a month ago I decided to try out their products due to me gaining weight back and seeing Tom Brady eat it (I know, I know lol). I don’t test any readings but I can only tell you my personal experience. I don’t feel a “crash” when eating the bread. Any sort of high carb meal tends to make me sleepy but I don’t get that feeling with this bread. So for me I don’t physically feel a spike in my levels. I had an experience opposite of yours. I actually really liked the bread and thought the texture and chew were perfect, but was underwhelmed by the buns and rolls. They had more of a chew type feel to them than the bread. I was able to counteract that by toasting them a little bit before adding my burger or hotdog. I will say that the texture and chew does fluctuate based on batch. As I experienced less of that with one package to another. I must say that I absolutely love the tortillas. Being of Mexican descent, flour tortillas were a staple in my household growing up. These have about the same consistency to them as the Mission style brand. I will say that the way you heat them up plays a role in the texture and taste. If you’re like me, you warm them up on the coil on the stove and get a bit of a char on them. I’ve also tried in a pan but didn’t really feel like they were “cooked”. Reading your comment I can say that I personally had less inflammation. I’ve had an issue with my tibial tuberosity (below knee cap) and right elbow for a few years. The inflammation/ache in my knees has gone away and I’ve had more range of motion in my elbow recently. Of course this could be a byproduct of just eating healthier in general but it’s worth noting. My only real complaint from their products, besides the price, is that my stomach becomes grumbly from the fiber. It’s not uncomfortable and I haven’t had any distress but everyone is different and reacts differently to ingredients. All in all I’m happy with the products and recommend them. I’m down 15lbs and haven’t had any bread cravings since getting them.
Thank you for testing! I love the Hero seeded bread. For me it’s a game changer. Does not spike me that high. That being said I only purchase when it’s on sale. $10.99/ loaf is insane!!
They've tweaked the ingredient since this review. I plan to give them another try - probably in April. Still, you shouldn't need a financing plan so that people can afford bread. 😄
Thank you for doing this review and people should know that even though it says net zero carbs it's VERY suspect and while it does not say it's good for keto people will look at the net zero carb and make that leap that is it good for keto and I am sure subway is ok with that... and for the record we bought 4 loafs and once we found out it spiked our glucose we decided to give it to the seagulls and they ate 2 of loafs and then flew away which i have never seen when we give them regular bread.... so it not only failed the glucose test but the seagull test as well.. THANK you Steve for putting your body through this so people can know the truth!!!!
Steve, thanks for the Hero review. You know, I don't care if the freaking bread is delicious. the chances of me paying $10 a loaf are somewhere between slim and ain't gonna happen. The buns, on the other hand, show promise, at least until you divulge the cost. Why I like your channel is that you don't Stevia-coat everything. Keep up the excellent work. BTW, it seems like Terry is moving slightly to the keto side.
I am new to your channel and I have to say, fantastic video my friend. Concise, focused, great communication and pronunciation, didn't overstay it's welcome, informative. Very well done 👍
I just received my Hero order and found your video after the fact. I'm excited to try the buns tomorrow, but will keep a watch for inflammation response! Thanks for trying out these products! We appreciate you and your commitment. I just wished that I had found your video BEFORE my purchase. :-)
Thank you for another great review. The ingredients sounded like this would be ok, but that's a big spike. My blood sugar is under control, but it means everything to me to keep it that way.
Thank you so much! I have questioned this bread because everything I read about modified wheat starch said it had quite a few carbs. Certainly more that I can have on Keto. I really like the bread but have gained weight back since I started eating it. But, I haven't used it exclusively with fats and proteins. What a difference you were able to show! So, I will continue enjoying the bread but will use it with the right balance of fat and protein. I have happily subscribed and liked your channel and will continue to watch.
Thanks for the info, it's interesting and makes me aware of what not to eat. I'm a sucker for bread and tried many different brands, I'm sure they gave me glucose spikes, like some of the others, I make my own bread and love it!!!!
Thanks for the review. This information on Hero Bread is helpful to know. I noticed on their website they started using olive oil instead of canola oil, so that’s a welcomed change. I’m going to give this bread a try and see for myself.
I had the same results except when I ate 1 slice of bread with turkey, cheese and mayo, it did not cause a glucose spike - HOWEVER if I ate he same exact sandwich with 2 slices, it would spike my glucose. I just use the buns and tortillas now. Thank you for helping us out.
Thanks for reviewing this. I have been on low carb / keto for 4-5 years. I tried the hamburger buns and tortillas a few weeks ago and I love them. I bought a whole bunch and will use when I crave fajitas or hamburger. Regarding inflammation - I too felt something that felt like inflammation on two occasions - but the other three times I didn't feel it. I love your videos 👍
Sprouts has just opened near me and they have Hero bread and I just had to try it. I bought the seeded one and I really like it! BUT it didn't like me. I gave it two tries to be fair and both times it spiked my glucose. The second time a spike of 46 points! It was toasted with butter both times, with my black coffee. I don't have a CGM so I'm glad to see my meter agrees with you.
I’ll stick with a Janet Greta‘s egg white bread Her recipe is perfection. I have tried nilas in fact to Janet’s I do add the arrowroot. I’ve done Amy’s Hawaiian without pineapple flavoring. Really good. But Janet’s is perfect. I slice it and make a patty melt because that is my favorite. I had it two nights in a row. According to carb master her protein sparing modified fast bread is 1 g per slice. Not sure if that’s really accurate but that’s what it says. I have made a grilled cheese with it and it’s very good. I think it grills better than it toasts.
@@Aurora3242 Well I have done hers. And it was just Styrofoam mattress. But Janets with the added arrowroot and buttermilk is a game changer I will never use any other recipe
@@cyndimanka I have not tried Janet's, with the arrowroot. I make Janet's original recipe when I want a loaf. And her cinnamon bread is so good. I will try the recipe with the arrowroot.
I live in one of the Subway trial areas. Only had one of the sandwiches with Hero Bread, but I gotta say, it's good. Couldn't really taste the difference, but I'm not a bread connoisseur. I'll take dirty keto ingredients as a treat over standard Subway bread 7 days a week. Also, our Subway sells the 12" loaves "stand alone" for $3 a piece and they say people buy them by the case and freeze them. Hella cheaper than what the company charges mail order. As for the carb blunting action of fat, I remember reading back in 2002ish when doing South Beach that fat does, indeed, blunt glucose response...the example given was that, if you have a potato craving, you're much better off eating french fries than you are eating a baked potato. So the theory has been out there for awhile.
Sprouts grocery store (at least here in Southern California) now carries Hero bread, hamburger buns, and hot dog buns. Much more economical than ordering online and paying shipping.
Thank you for this review and the glucose testing. So weird about the hamburger on the bread not even registering a reading on your monitor. Also thank you for the update on the inflammation!
It wound up registering/scoring later on in the day. I saw a similar thing happen on one of the tortillas I tested in the upcoming part 3 of the tortilla mega review.
Thank you for this video. I am glad that I didn’t waste my money on this high priced bread. I am diabetic and was looking for any type of bread that does not give you a high spike in your blood sugar levels. There is no bread ( white or wheat) that is safe for a diabetic.
Hi, Steve! I discovered a new and VERY DELICIOUS keto dessert. I’m hoping that you’ll test it. The company is called “Just Made Keto.” The cinnamon crumb cake is fabulous. The frosting is good, too. It’s make with almond flour. Love your channel!😊
Kudos to you!! While you were testing these I was immediately thinking, "well what about the plain hamburger bun?" You read my mind and included that in this video - SO happy you did that!! Between the good texture and the almost negligible rise in glucose, this seems like a really good option! I, too, don't care for the use of canola oil but the results speak for themselves. Just wondering if you have an Aldi near you. I'm using their Keto hamburger buns and they hold up very well to a burger, texture-wise. Another great video - you rock!!
Thanks for the videos! They really inform my shopping decisions. Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a glucose review of Royo Artisan Keto Bread and Bagels, as well as Immi Keto Ramen? Thank you!
I don't know about anyone else but if the bread is 10 bucks, I don't care if it's zero carbs and tastes great - I ain't spending money on it. But seems it's not so good anyhow. Thank you so much for the review, Steve. 💌
While I have been ordering the unbelievabuns for a few months now, I decided to give these a try this time. UPS has been crushing my boxes coming from unbelievabuns, and UPS does not want to do anything about it. It'll be interesting to see how I like them compared to side by side.
Steve, i love your videos! I was wondering if you have done a videos comparing some of the popular healthier home made keto breads like Deidres Keto Bread ?
@@SeriousKeto No worries. After watching your videos, I look at food in a whole different way. It is a game changer in my life! Thank you! My big takeaway was understanding the ingredients in the bread is critical. I wonder what would the results look like if we baked a clean keto bread.
I use the buns and tortillas. They fill a need for me. I also make chips from the tortillas. I eat those with guacamole. I consider this stuff a conveyor for whatever is on it. It's disappointing to see the glucose spike from the bread product alone. Your burger test made me feel better, as I always eat the buns and tortillas when loaded with meat, cheese, and fat. I like the dog and burger buns. Nice reviews, Steve. I like the way the product behaves with food, so I'll keep using it that way.
No wonder it tastes so close to regular bread. I have tried 4 different "keto" breads and none were even close to taste or texture compared to regular bread. I bought a box of hamburger buns and a box of tortillas. I just made a home made kind of egg mcmuffin with 1 egg, ham and a slice of cheese on a hero bun. It was delicious. Definitely going to finish them since they will not bring me out of Keto. The name is Plissken.
Thanks again for your great testing! Hey Steve, I have an idea: why don't you test the various nut flours (almond, coconut, etc.), using them for coating fish with blood testing and your personal taste impressions. This is for those of us that really enjoy fried fish (using good oil, of course, lol).
I watched your review on Aldi’s Lovin Fresh wheat bread and Since then they have a White bread as well as Buns. The buns are sooo good. I have bought them when they weren’t so fresh but the fresh ones are so soft and not dry like the wheat bread is. The price is less than $4 so it’s affordable.
Very nice review! I got here after I saw Keto twins review of the Hero croissant and they really loved it. What spikes sugar? The fiber? All the carbs that are mot net carbs?
The problem is that the FDA lets manufacturers play pretty loose with what they define as “fiber”. Many of the starches used in commercial keto bread, though classified as “fiber” will spike glucose.
Thank you, that's great to know that protein n fat may level somewhat the glucose spike, I found a 1 net carb bread at Pac N Save/ Safeway, in California"Live Low Carb by Aunt Millie's" I have not checked my glucose though but it's so close to regular bread you can't tell the difference even my non keto husband ate it without knowing
After watching this video I ordered the hamburger and hot dog buns and I totally agree with you. They are the best I've had so far out of all the ones I've tried (store bought and home made).
I never understood why my knees would pain me and my knuckles swell until you mentioned it as a result of inflammation! At ten bucks a pop, is it wrong to expect cleaner ingredients? Those buns really look good. Sometimes I will make a deal with the devil and have the desired thing and be prepared to swell and ache. It keeps me from a craving turning to obsession and danger of falling off program for day? week? month? The trade off is certainly not ideal, but absolutely the better choice.
When you test the Hero tortillas in your 3rd review of tortillas, I hope you will also include Mama' Lupes Tortillas (my favorite corn-like tortillas). For flour tortillas, I use Hero or La Banderita's. Looking forward to seeing how the Hero tortillas compare.
