In this episode I try three different low carb breads and let you know the difference in carbs, taste, texture and "toastability." #lowcarbbread #ketobread #diabeticbread
I really liked the Natures Own Keto bread. Texture is good and it makes a great sandwich. I finally decided to test my Blood Glucose. It was disappointing. I ate 2 slices with butter toasted. Starting BG was 85, after 1 hour it was 130. That is a huge spike. I don't remember when I saw 130 on my meter. Everybody reacts different but you cant trust whats on the package. It was too good to be true. At least for me.
@@davidlangan4902 No. Just the Natures own. I only commented because that one was such a huge disappointment. It tasted fantastic and then it just made me angry that it spiked so much. More than any bread (except real bread) before. I also stay away from mission tortillas.
I will try Hero bread, I currently have both Arnold and Natures own, Arnold does have a better taste and texture, but, there is 60 calories per slice compared to 35 on the Natures own, which is almost double, to top it off, the size of the Arnold, is puny, Natures own is more filling, in that regard. how do I deal with it? toasting, and butter, I rarely eat breads un toasted anyway, and the texture is much improved on both of these.
So I bought the Hero Bread and buns at your recommendation. They sell them at Sprouts Farmers Market on the west coast. Price is cheaper than most keto breads. So I was surprised. The thing I like most about the bread is it's size. Way larger than all the other keto breads out there. The buns? Meh. Sola Hamburger buns and Kroger's carbmaster hamburger buns tastes way better. Sola is pricier but you can get it cheaper at Walmarts and Kroger's is competitive to regular bread prices. When I first tried the Hero bread, it had that typical back taste of most keto breads but I got use to it and it's great with butter and jelly and as a sandwich. But it needs a condiment to block all those preservatives and additives that give keto bread that non-bread taste. I don't know why a bread company, a healthy bread company, like Dave's Killer Bread, just doesn't make a real bread and just throw in tons of fiber to lower the carbs, where they don't have to put in all that crap that makes keto bread not taste like real bread.
@@letsgolowcarb I found that to be the case with their sliced bread. Not so much with their rolls and hot dog buns. I tried the Extraordinary Bites bread, bagels and rolls. Not bad
I wear a CGM with a warning level set at 150. If they raise my blood sugar at all, they do not get any higher than 150. And they do not spike it. I'm more concerned with spikes or high levels of blood sugar. I don't sit down and test everything I eat because that would take a lot of time because you have to wait hours after you eat to check your glucose levels for spikes etc. Usually if I'm reviewing something and then waiting and putting the video out, that means that it hasn't spiked my blood sugar. Anything that does spike my blood sugar I would let people know.
@@rodscooking131 Yes. Blood sugar raises. But does it raise to a concerning level is the question I think. You can eat something with a resting blood sugar level of 95 and go up to 102 and that shouldn't be too concerning. But if you eat something and you spike up to 160 or 180 or higher pretty quickly than that might be concerning.
@@rodscooking131 yeah.... I'm type 2 but I control it by how I eat. That's why I use the glucose monitor to make sure that things I eat don't spike my blood sugar. I had a 7.6 a1c 3 years ago and because of the way I eat I can keep it down to 5.3 or 5.4. without the continuous glucose monitor I may eat something that spikes my blood sugar and not know about it right away. So I wouldn't really call that obsessed. I would just call that being conscious about my health. Assume much though?
Hero white has a bit of sour taste like sour dough. Hero seed is sweeter. Most ppl prefer hero seed. Personally I think both are great! Esp hero white is zero carb whereas hero seed has 1 net carb per slice
I find that most keto breads are way better taste and texture-wise when toasted. They tend to burn really quickly for some reason though. There are only a few breads I like "raw," Arnold being one of them! Schmidt's 647 is probably the best, but with 6 net carbs per slice it's a little spendy to eat too often. I hope I can find Hero near me somewhere soon because you've got me excited about that one!
I don't know about you but I never eat bread right out of the bag without it being toasted and buttered. That's the only way to test if a keto bread tastes decent. Even non keto bread right out of the bag I wouldn't eat. The only bread I would do that with is artisan fresh out of the oven, like Italian or French loaf that's just been baked.
Yeah I don't have time to sit around and check this every time I do a review. It takes an hour or so to have any effect but I can tell you from my experience that the hero bread has absolutely no effect on my glucose. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll be happy to answer them for you. Thank you
Yeah I can't do a glucose test on every product I do. I just review the taste of the items that are coming out that say they are keto friendly. But I can tell you from my experience that the hero bread and the Arnold bread do not spike my blood sugar. Feel free to ask questions I'll be happy to answer them. But to say it's a waste of time because I'm reviewing how something tastes is kind of a waste of time.
I just bought Keto Nature's Own White Bread because that's all the store had. I usually prefer whole wheat breads, but thought I'd try it. I think it tastes like saw dust! Not to mention it was $6.99 a loaf. I misread the sticker price on the shelf and thought it was on sale for $2.99. I didn't realize the mistake until I got home and checked my receipt. I won't buy it again. I'd rather just eat a little bit of regular bread than this crap. I'm also diabetic, but that doesn't mean you can't have some carbs.
