I’ll have to check out Derders? Is that on RU-vid? I know this is a year old comment. I’m just getting back into paintball Rec’wise at 36yo, so this stuff is the glory days(15y layoff).
@@chexcollects Theres probably clips here, all of their full vids used to be on yt but you know how things change. Anyway, I'm sure theres an upload around somewhere or even their website. Just look up "DerDer Natural Selection"
@@chexcollects yep that ones def on here, one of the first i rewatched coming back to the game, some of the beginnings of these videos like this one is pure bliss!!!
@@thenickmurphy13 I’m coming back too i played my last event 2008 psp Chicago d1 xball. Just bought two new guns and starting to work out and get back in shape . I’m only 29 but i know the how physically demanding it is to play at a high level .
I’m looking to get back into the game after being away for 12-13 years. Would love to see PB to grow in popularity again like it was back in the early 2000s!
idk if anyone mentioned this, but in the beginning of the film Nicky was always getting told to stop trying “to be a superstar” and during the last game he ran down the Dorito, put the point in their favor and had his super star moment at the very end of the film. it came full circle. awesome.
This was always my favorite part of the documentary also how he hung the flag in their first victory in Europe. Life is a better story then fiction sometimes
Watching Nicky Cuba Cry when his team was telling him he’s dropping the ball, is the best scene in this movie. It shows how much passion he puts into the sport, it’s basically his entire identity at the age he was at when this was filmed.
I'm 30 years old now... this brings back amazing memories. I was a huge Dynasty fan, but this film opened my eyes to the struggles XSV faced in their rise to the top. I'm shopping markers right now haha going to get back into it.
Thanks for uploading this! Not just an amazing paintball film. so much emotion. I haven't played in years but im itching to get back into it after watching
I unintentionally took an entire decade off from paintball & now I finally have my new marker. I was itching too. You should definitely get back out there!
Taylor was the best front of all time! No one had his back. Its the same denominator I see with every team that has unfit back players too slow to follow. Which is why Dynasty was a Dynasty. They had a better diet
I love watching this to get high on nostalgia. Film warms my heart. I had this shit on DVD from my local field! Some of the best memories were getting wrecked by new guns and hoppers I’d never seen before. Me and my buddies getting our asses beat at 12 years old playing 20/30 year olds. The game is ageless. A time in history we’lll never get back. My Woodstock. My escape from an abusive home life. The field ironically felt like my safe space
This brings back insane nostalgia. 28 now and this inspired me to put my first team together. It’s a bummer that paintball has died off but man were those good time. Greg Hastings paintball as well. Life moves on though, so just look back and smile :)
@@yourpbtv I don’t know where you’ve been for the past 20 years but the last two events I played in Calgary and Edmonton Alberta Canada, there was significantly less teams then when I last played in 2018. And when I started in 2010 I knew even then it wasn’t what it was a few years prior. Now a days there’s like 4/5 teams in all three divisions out here. The CPPL, the CXBL, NPPL all died. One died and another started for a few more years. Now the feild owners run the events thenselfs.
@@justinwood9965 dude I'm from America not Canada we have a lot of teams in the USA NXL so where have you been my guy 🤔 cause I've been in America all my life
@@yourpbtvlmaooooo yea ok in fairytale world. Paintball objectively from a stock market/financial position is dead. This industry was practically a guaranteed positive revenue. They had video games on mainstream platforms. You could buy a complete set up at all major retailers even Walmart sold markers and filled c02 tanks. Movies made like the one here. I still have the DVD. The NPPL had a contract with ESPN. New fields are few and far between in the US. Maybe you weren’t alive back when you’d have to wait in line to get on a field but to say it’s better than 99-07 is just redundant and cognitively dissonant to a time that’s unparalleled. Saying paintball is bigger now is stupid end of discussion. I still have my 06 shocker NXT. Bought on eBay. I’ve been to a field in the past year have you? Go talk to an owner and take a sip of reality. I live near a city with over a million people and the owner can’t get people in. Do yourself a favor, call the nearest field and ask them if what I said is correct. I bet all the money you don’t own they’ll agree with me I’m not saying there isn’t a problem league with pro players and a fan base. I don’t think the sport will ever completely dissipate with die hards like me and some old teammates still filling our hoppers.
Such a raw film, this is what locked in my love for this sport. Thomas Taylor was unreal and I did everything I could to be just like him haha. XSV will always be my favorite team!
Had so much influence on me as a 13 year old. I turned 27 this year, and am finally getting back into paintball. I know things have changed, but I’m hoping it still feels violent and as high energy as it did when I was a child.
I just turned 36…just started playing after a 15 year “hiatus”, Vintage Paintball WI. Watching this and reminiscing…so many memories to my teenage years lol
I was to young to play in this era but I watched my brothers and my dad play during these years and omg why am I getting nostalgic 😂 man I wish I was able to play through these times. Pb has taken such a big hit this year. This movie hits a certain spot for me idk why
This is one of the most iconic things to come out of the early 2000s. I don't even play paintball but the style, music, and cinematography is oozing with that feeling of Y2K. Stylistically a masterpiece; a window into the past when it was all about myspace, monster energy, xbox 360, baggy pants, tapout, and action sports for the older brothers of the 2000s.
Still now in 2023 this brings back so many memories . Man the mud , rain , bumpy fields some players will never know what a feeling that was . What a grind I can only imagine how much more of a grind at top level jeez 😳 😅
What are the chances that Nobody Knows Your Name just came up on my spotify playlist and I searched for this reminiscing the days of my youth? I know where my night is going. 🤘🤘🤘
Yeah watch that part for the song & footage almost everyday, such a special moment with Thomas Taylor / Cuba / Niel lookin at the camera solo 📷....especially knowing where those players went (HOF STATUS) with Thomas still playin front to this day...incredible to say the least.
Loved this video. The historical REALITIES of what it took to be a professional paintball player in the height of the era. Flexible jobs, cheap rent, dedication and above all else, trust in other teammates, which was why most teams failed. For a start up team, with this many "individuals" they accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. Great to see in the end credits, just how many ballers dedicated time, talent and resources to the film. I find that the Pball community is still that way today. Love to see a "Where are they now" follow up...
Bro watching the entire team like basically walk through the personal trainings is silly considering the fact that they are literally going at a walking pace....then you got the one homie fucking grinding and being forced to do more work by himself, then the entire team together....that was a waste of money for the entire team besides the one dude lol
Yea so I'm back into paintball now, didn't need to see this. There goes this years salary. Seriously though, paintball aside, this is an iconic sports documentary.
Built to Dismantle Dynasty . They did well but once the money men pulled the plug they fell apart on par with Dynasty definitely better than Dynasty rarely . Especially once Ollie Lang went back to Dynasty .
Damn, Dynasty truly lived in XSV and every other pro teams heads rent free back in the day. They were straight up scary on the paintball field. They had fast, aggressive, intelligent, consistent mid and back players who could dominate a game with their speed and communication and overall will to win. Todd Martinez, Johnny Perchak, Brian Cole, Danny Tilljack…all those guys outside the obvious core 4-5 guys were still a force to be reckoned with back then.
Wow. I’m a 1/3 of the way in. And I’m making a comment about how much they get in their own way. Fascinating to see. More 🍿 now for the unfolding story
God I just found this now. Skimmed through it just to remember.... Every single scene, I remember exactly what is happening within 2 seconds. I watched this movie so many fucking times. I was obsessed with this movie and with paintball.
This right here is PEAK paintball era... these few years were when dynasty was untouchable.. and XSV assembled the slay the dragon team... all legends.. like an all start team.. and DID IT
Great documentary. You don’t even have to be into paintball to get caught up in this story. The filmmaker had the whole trust of the team. Really good soundtrack of a bunch of bands I’ve never even heard.
I think you could take 04 05 Cuba put him a Time Machine to today, and he would dominate in the current game and format, just from a versatility, gun skill, and athletic standpoint he would be too 5 within a year.
if my memory is correct, those Huntington beach NPPLs were basically played on a parking lot. they'd roll out thin layer of turf on the parking lot and guys would go out diving into bunkers basically on asphalt. it was nuts.
in the extras for the DVD , the part where they are with the personal trainer /w patrick, someone commented that " i bet his halo character could run for days"
I remember watching this on the way to tournaments. I'm glad i wasn't the only one living on floors and eating ramen so i could afford entry fees and paint for practices. I miss the old days when you could blow people off the field and get away with swearing more.
I remember going to the premier of this af World Cup 09 if I remember correctly. Bought the DVD and watched it until it stopped working. Now I get to watch it as much as I want. Absolutely love this documentary.
This was great to rewatch. Amazing to see the development of the team dynamic and sometimes harsh conversations that need to be had to make every player be the best teammate they could be
@@XballPodcast segment with Neil and Davey (?) arguing about the kill count in Europe - even though the team was doing well in events, still showed that they were constantly working on improving communication There’s probably other stuff but that’s what came to mind immediately lol
im 43 now and remember kickin it with these guy down at cup. i was fans of most of these guy before they formed esv. man i would love to go back to those days
Gosh damn I am fucking jazzed up to play again tomorrow!!!! First day back in 15 years boys and girls and this shit is just amping me up....got the marq7 all tuned up and ready to fucky fucky lol
Great documentary. I've come to the conclusion that they would have had way more sucess if they just cut daveys that guy was a bonified prick and was just breaking everyone down instead of helping this is an amzing example of a new soort going through hell to become established. Hope all of them are alive and well
Thanks for this, I tell everyone I want this Video, sadly I had to find it once on YT, uploaded illegally coz, well it wasn't available anywhere, I tried to find a site, a listing, it was on some Paintball shop's but they were all sold out, I went on eBay, Amazon, EVERYWHERE and finally i found a link to an unlisted Video and I loved it, now I can watch it without the guilt... Though I would still pay for this Video it's so good, so Raw, So Real, imho an important part of Paintball History.
1:28:10 dude i wish they had this field set up nowadays with a wall of big ass Cans instead of the snake.... just guarantees more bunkering moments.....
Rich having gun problems in HB? couple games when he’s mic’s up he’s basically one balling it... maybe shot like 1 pod? No team ramping boards in the 1st gen ego?
@@bigbob21 Just think that was a creative choice to leave the Mic open on that scene since it is the Revenge game against TonTons and Pat wanted to convey the brutal bonus balling Rich was giving out that game
