Sure :D Although I once had a fun game with a cheat that max builds each and every town (even uncaptured, which means that each town has everything built up including a holy grail) 1v7 FFA. The hard part is to keep track of everyone and everything which rushes you. Similar to the video when you were not going out of your starting zone, but with a twist - a lot of decision making:) Making it 1 vs team of 7 makes it interesting :) But I know that it's hard to find time to do such kind of shenanigans and you never know what the end result (whether it's entertaining or not) would be :D Anyway, keep up with the good work - best wishes from Ukraine :)
Your understanding of this game is awesome. When I play this on the easiest difficulty I feel like: I'm gonna need 20 dragons to clear this pack of sprites. Lol
Thank you! Admittedly, knowing what fights that you can reliably take is one of the more difficult skills to learn in this game. In some instances, I've taken fights I'm confident I can win, only to find out that the fight is much more difficult than I expect it to be. :P
Your videos are great. I was banging my head on how you get so far so fast after watching this and starting a game with the same settings and not being able to get Sprites until the 2nd month. I realized using HOTA made the game harder. Until now I never knew Firewall was useful. Thanks!
Thanks! It was fun showing off the usefulness of Fire Wall, especially since many people aren't familiar with how strong it can be under the right circumstances. Indeed, HotA rebalanced Conflux so that you can no longer acquire Sprites without building a Magic University first. This change might be some incentive for you to play a bit of SoD again ;)
Thanks for that nice game! I LMAO, when you started to tell your closing remarks and just... Armaggedoned your Firebirds!)) And it was clear, why Louna was allways getting back to the tavern - she's a typical girl: the less we love the women. the more she loves us back)))) Anyway, it was a great job, taking a lot of time, efforts and nerves, that not everyone can see behind the screen. So just want to let you know, we really appreciate it!!! God, put a bless, luck and moralka on you))
LOL, what an interesting way of trying to explain why Luna kept returning to the Tavern! I'm not so sure I'd agree, but it was a good laugh nonetheless. I also chuckled a fair bit on the luck and moralka - for me, these are permanently negative. :P I'm glad that you can acknowledge how my content requires a fair bit of time and nerve (the latter of which can be quite the struggle for me) to be put into it! It's refreshing to see someone who sees the amount of effort that goes into playing these matches and making these videos. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
Oh yes, perfect Christmas gift! Merry Christmas MK, enjoy the holidays and of course, thanks for all the help and let's make 2018 an even better year for HOMM!
From the manual regarding the damage formula for firewall: "Type Combat Cost 8 Duration 2 Rounds Basic Effect A two hex-wide wall of fire is produced at target hex. A troop passing through these hexes takes ((Power x 10) + 10) damage. Advanced Effect Same as Basic Effect, except that wall of fire is three hexes wide and damage is ((Power x 10) +20). Expert Effect Same as Advanced Effect, except that damage is ((Power x 10) + 50)"
Of all the hero portraits of demons and skeletons, Luna's is the creepiest. The uncanny valley is strong with her and her creepy smile fills me with unsettling feelings.
You just made my holiday season brighter with this upload. I was starting to worry... Thanks for the upload I'm sure these videos aren't as easy to make as people assume. :)
That's good to hear! Indeed, these videos do take a fair bit of time and dedication to put out, so it's nice to see others out there who acknowledge this. Merry Christmas to you :)
You're welcome! As I mentioned in the video, for a long time I was in the same boat you were regarding Fire Wall's capabilities. But after watching other people utilize Fire Wall in ridiculous ways, I thought that it would be nice to employ some of those strategies in my own gameplay. Cheers! :)
I can't watch one of your videos without getting highly in the mood to play too....which would be fine only I am horrible at the game. Though slightly less horrible after watching your videos. :-) thank you for posting these, they're really fun and cozy to watch.
Haha, don't worry about it! It's more important that you enjoy the game than it is that you're "good" at it, at least in my opinion. As long as you're having fun with Heroes III, that's all that should matter :) You've asked a great question! I've never actually thought about it up until now, but I think that my favorite video up until now would have to be Ranged Only. I received a large number of complaints about the audio levels in that episode, but I didn't try to redo the video since the gameplay itself was action-packed and challenging from start to finish with an awesome conclusion to boot. Because of how intense it was, Ranged Only was one of the few games that I've played where I can honestly say that it was as much fun to play that match as it was to watch. The match also didn't take 10+ hours to finish, so that was pretty awesome too. I could give you more details about that episode, but I don't want to spoil anything in case you want to watch it for yourself. I'm glad that you've found my videos useful for improving your skill level. Thanks for watching!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Russia Mekick! It was a great game. You're just amazing. I wish you all the best for the next year! This video was the best Christmas gif evert!Cheers!
Haha, I'm glad you appreciate this "Christmas present" of mine! :) I've put the No Recruiting challenge on my list of potential future challenges, but I want to get through certain other ones first (such as the No Magic and Ranged Only challenges).
Thank you for the video! The next challange should be the buy-no-unit challenge. You could buy heros with troops, and do banks, but thats all. Should be interesting.
Thanks for the suggestion! This was brought up by several others not too long ago, and I may consider giving this a shot after my No Magic video which is slated to be the next release.
Another wonderful part of firewall is the ability to clear creature banks. I think you can investigate more on this part to get a better start :). Luna can even take the naga and cyclopz banks.
You're absolutely right! I probably should've explored the clearing of creature banks with Luna for a better start, but to be honest I'm not too familiar with Luna's capabilities. Maybe in a future playthrough I'll look more into clearing out creature banks with Luna.
Had a two way right next to my castle. With a colored boarder guard. Was afraid of that gate the whole game. Finally managed to find the corresponding tent and... The other gate was literally behind the same damn castle and I just never noticed it.
Easy for you to say. I just happened to be operating within the boundaries of the original challenge. :P I think I got by just fine without the extra measly damage from Sorcery.
That's great to hear! Have you seen my Necropolis 1v7 and my VAMPIRE LORDS ARE 100% BALANCED videos? The gameplay in these videos demonstrate quite nicely just a few situations where Vampire Lords get to shine.
Took you a damn long time to figure out the right spot for the grail. I found the location after second clue, and was just like.. what are you doing it not an ice mountain on that picture xD xD Btw. Big fan of you!
Regardless of where you correctly expected the Grail to be, do note that it can be placed up to several squares outward from the center of the Puzzle Map. Cheers!
No might, no magic, what if you did a "no heroes" run with a hero save-edited to be level 99 with 0000 stats and no abilities? Probably tedious to implement but would be interesting.
This sounds like an interesting challenge that combines No Magic, No Might, and Only One Hero with a peculiar twist to it. Like you mentioned though, I think this one would be a bit tedious to implement and I already have some other challenges lined up after No Magic anyway. Regardless, thanks for the suggestion!
I would be curious to see just how painful it would be. I was thinking it would be very much a "might" playthrough though, with a big army as the only thing on your side.
2:08:35 It has taken until this moment, after all of these hours of your RU-vid videos, for you to FINALLY admit to the amazingness that is a Summon Boat scroll!!! (Streams don't count Kappa )
lol, yeah, that definitely was a record for me! To be honest, it was probably for that odd streak of luck alone that I felt compelled to play out the strange map generation. ;D Merry Christmas!
Hey MeKick, I have an idea for the challenge: you choose any map, any faction, you have no limits for spells, creatures, heroes, artis or anything. But all your actions are decided by the roll of dice.
I'm unsure myself, it's just some hazy idea. For example, you have two options and you don't choose best but you (or someone else) roll a dice (not necessary real dice, some RNG would be good). For example, you have to choose between basic earth and basic estates - in normal game you would choose earth but here you will hope that random will choose it for you. Also you can let random choose how to place your units before cleaning tope etc etc.
I don't think I'm too sold on this one. I would prefer the premise of the challenge to be simple and clear from the onset of the match (i.e. "Ranged Only") rather than creating a challenge based on RNG for multiple aspects of my gameplay.
I think the best unit for Luna in this case is one or two Angel. I'm almost certain that there's a math for it but you'll see the differences just by looking at the enemies stack by the number you got on your. Further more, it took up just one place (one hexagon) not two hexagon like Archangel, and they got good speed, good health.
As I explained in this video, enemy Wandering Monsters will split themselves up based on how strong they perceive themselves to be relative to the power (and not just numbers alone) of your army. If your army is perceived to be much weaker than the Wandering Monsters that you've attacked, then the Wandering Monsters will split themselves up into more stacks. On the other hand, if your army is perceived to be much stronger, then they will group themselves up into one or two big stacks. Knowing this, using an Angel instead of a Sprite would probably encourage Wandering Monsters to split themselves up into bigger stacks due to how strong an Angel is, which is the total opposite of what I want in most fights that I take using Luna.
Before this Christmas I thought that firewall is the shitiest spell in the book... Thank you for proving me wrong. Can't wait to try it myself :) Oh and 2:43:30 ... I totally felt that tension :D Great job dude :)
Same here! As I think I mentioned at some point in the video, I was always under the impression that the spell Fire Wall, along with Luna's specialty, were useless in comparison to other damage-based spells like Lightning Bolt and even Magic Arrow. I hope you enjoy your trial of Luna! Also, the suspense in the battle you gave the timestamp for was killing me. I'm actually surprised that no one else (as of yet) brought up how tense it actually was, although it could've just been me who thought it was a scary fight. Thanks! :D
I'm not particularly close to running out of ideas for challenges at the moment. The slow pace of my releases is because I try to upload my Let's Play Heroes III videos close to once a month to build up hype for upcoming episodes. Regardless, thanks for the suggestion!
Even for a Magic Only challenge, I still don't consider Sorcery as being worth using up an entire Secondary Skill slot for. What was the alternative Secondary Skill on that level-up?
TheKnownWorld Advanced Air Magic - at 57:20 Thanks for the explanation - you klicked it away so quickly that I thought you just missed it (: Why is it not worth the slot in this particular challenge though?
No problem! Yeah, I don't regret that decision at all. There are just far too many alternatives that I would rather take over Sorcery when they are offered, such as Logistics, Tactics, Intelligence, and Armorer (three of which I eventually got on Luna). Also, if I did end up picking Sorcery there, then it would've prevented Luna from reaching Expert Air Magic for at least one more level-up. It is worth noting that the Orb of _ (Silt, Tempestuous Fire, or Firmament) will add 50% damage to the corresponding school of magic, which is far stronger and much more useful than the 15% extra damage from *Expert* Sorcery. Sure, every now and then you could use the extra minuscule damage to kill a few extra creatures, but I just don't think the return on Expert Sorcery is worth it for a Secondary Skill slot and three level-ups' worth of Secondary Skill choices.
These wonky self-made challenges are pretty fun :D If you ever come up with something fancy and want to challenge someone to it, let me know, I'd give one a go :D EDIT: Hey, what would happen if you faced enemy with Magic Elementals? (didn't finish watching yet in case you did, but the thought just struck me).
Good question! Actually, this came up at some point in the video, and I was forced to come up with a strategy to deal with Magic Elementals. I settled for letting the Arrow Towers get rid of them since I have no way to disable Arrow Towers. :P I'm glad you're enjoying my challenges!
TheKnownWorld im glad I'm not the only one that is scared for live from watching spongebob :P I really hope we can play a game of homm 3 if I ever get access to a computer again and good enough to not cry in a corner
You walk into Dragon Hide. You see bodies. Everywhere. Dead bodies. And in the middle, epic loots and gold. GRAB EVERYTHING AND RUUUN AWWAAAYYY PS. The only player who can kill MeKick is... MeKick. Srsly, you died more times by yourself then by others ;D PPS. What can I do, to force you to explain those artefacts :( ,,Armor of doom", ''Bow of somethingsomething". Ye great, what are those?
lol, that would've been fine. Against Black Dragons, I could've just toughed out the retaliations. The real problem would be Magic Elementals since I can't retaliate against those.
I'm curious to know what the parameters/rules for No magic would have been. I guess it might be self explanatory but then again that is what i thought for No Might and was surprised
That's what I'm saying. No Magic is no magic, fair enough. But I was surprised for the No Might because I figured that it would entail no might skills and/or Heroes. But I guess the skill generation is random in this game? Edit : I mean, you can't count on only having might skills, or only magic skills when you level up
To be honest, for whatever reason, I didn't think of banning might-based skills altogether at the time. Even so, I'm not sure which might-based skills I would even ban (Armorer and Offense come to mind, but I'm not sure about the other Secondary Skills in the game), and I doubt such a restriction would've had an impact on the overall outcome of the match anyway. Besides, I think that the restriction I imposed in this match was sufficient to warrant calling the challenge "No Might". Although the skill generation is "random" in Heroes III, different hero classes have varying odds of obtaining specific Secondary Skills. In the case of Luna (an Elementalist), she has a notoriously high chance of getting the four schools of magic, and much lower chances of getting many of the might-based skills in the game.
Hi MeKick, I know it has been over 2 years since you have posted this video but I believe that you didn't do it right in my opinion. I do not agree with you moving units around in the battle, for a no might challenge because you have used retaliation for a big part of the map. If you really want to do this, just defend with your army and don't move a muscle. Tactics can be used to move them at first but that's it, keep them in the same spot and if the enemy comes and attacks, then they use retaliation. That's how I see only magic challenge, and it would be way more difficult :) but I do appreciate your strategies and I still enjoy watching your videos even if you don't post stuff very often
