**Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): ** *1. What mods do you use for Heroes III? / What version of the game are you using?* I usually play Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death with the HD mod (downloadable from sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/). Sometimes, I'll also use Horn of the Abyss (also known as HotA), but I'm not using it in this video. The HD mod is responsible for most of the features that you see in my videos. Note that the Heroes III HD mod is not compatible with Ubisoft's HD Edition on Steam. *2. How do I get your version of the game?* Shadow of Death is functionally the same (e.g. there are no gameplay differences) as the Heroes III Complete Edition, which you can get from www.gog.com/game/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_edition for relatively cheap. Horn of the Abyss can be obtained from download.h3hota.com/HotA_setup. *3. How do you see how far units can move in combat?* This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1) and can be done by mousing over a unit and holding down the CTRL key. *4. What are the hotkeys that you use?* This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1). The most frequent hotkeys that I use for army management are: - CTRL+Click to create a 1-stack - ALT+Click to group up all units of the same type into one big stack - SHIFT+Click to split a stack into two halves - CTRL+SHIFT+Click to fill up all remaining empty slots with a 1-stack A full list of the hotkeys that the HD mod provides can be found at sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/description/extended-ui. *5. How do you display the extended hero details while setting up a map?* This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1) and can be done simply by right-clicking on a hero's portrait while selecting a hero. Note that Single Scenarios do not support this feature. *6. How do you step through Two-Way Monoliths and Subterranean Gates without moving your hero?* Pressing the Space Bar key will cause your hero to step on the same square that they are currently on, allowing them to move through Two-Way Monoliths and Subterranean Gates at will. The Space Bar key can also be used on Water Wheels, Windmills, Mystical Gardens, and other map objects. Note that this feature is only available in versions of Heroes III that come later than Restoration of Erathia, meaning that this cannot be done in Ubisoft's HD Edition on Steam. *7. How can I get my unit animations in combat to be as fast as yours?* To get accelerated unit animations, download crAnim.txt from heroesportal.net/getfile.php?file=/files/information/16/Cranim.txt and put it into the Data folder of your Heroes III directory. *8. Why not play a match without rules?* I plan to do a no holds barred playthrough in the far future, but there's a specific approach I would use for such a match that I don't want to showcase at this time.
45:10 'Now next turn I can decide whether I go for citadel or behemoth lair if the following conditions are true' 'If the windmill turnout to be cristal' - *gets 5 cristals* 'Now this pile of wood needs to be 7 or greater' - *gets 9 wood* 'Now I need 1 ore.. come on please be ore' - *gets 4 ore* Next day, week 2 day 7 - 'aaand we make it to behemoth lair' What a chain of events
Whew, what a rollercoaster that was! I think I'm getting a little too much praise, though. Being able to acquire the Behemoths was more a display of luck than a display of skill :P
I am happy to see that another video of TheKnownWorld is out. Let's just take a moment to be grateful for MeKick to upload content of an over 20 year old game to RU-vid.
A lot of people say how great this is for sleeping asleep/asmr but jesus christ, you've been blessed with the ability to talk non stop for 9hrs straight. As someone who likes to have human noise in the house throughout the day you're really great to put on in the morning and not worry about finding new videos throughout the day! All the while playing a classic!
This seems very interesting. To be honest, although I really like your videos, I rarely watch them from beginning to the end without skipping. This video I will watch entirely because as a HOMM3 player for 20 years (althoigh not good player), I realize what exactly means "no roads" and why it is probably the hardest challenge for you. Very interesting!
I would be extremely interested to see how you tackle the map “From the Depths of Hell”. It’s a HoTA map that came out about a year or so ago. I’ve tried defeating it a billion times at this point, but never managed to defeat it. I considered myself a semi non braindead player before playing that map, now that thought has been refuted.
Your start was really rough (digging ok), but you dig up well. It is like bonfire story for gobabies, how runaway slave Gundula, collar still on her neck, took charge of poor tribe Morganheim, just pack of gobs from middle of nowhere, and became duke and mighty hero and got her REVENGE. Epic!
does it matter if anyone is a casual or not? IDK when this started but it's not what HoMM is about, it's about having fun with friends, and...'balance'
The music in that game is one of the best i have ever came across in my life and im 47. There are others that come close mario 64 slip and slide and diablo II etc but a brilliant piece of work
Here's a weird challenge: Your camera must always have a friendly keep or hero on it. You can't look around the map if there's no friendly hero or keep there.
I know those 1-stacks are an expert tactic, but i'm proposing a rule: If you have a certain type of creature in your hero's army, you are not allowed to split them into groups. That should prevent 1-stacks from being the main focus of all gameplay here.
There is no true random in computer science...regardless I'm happy to see a new video about one of my all-time favorite games with one of my favorite RU-vidrs. Don't ever stop MeKick!!!
8:05:29 - taking forever to place your army stacks for the purpose of avoiding black dragon’s breath attacks, only to get your whole hydra stack to be slaughtered by the breath attack without even having made one attack!? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Comedy Gold my friend - I’m ROTFL 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Sometimes you are way overthinking my friend, always plotting to win with an inferior army, instead of concentrating to build a superior force. Sorry man - great post and thoroughly enjoyed your video!
Here's a challenge suggestion: "External Dwellings "Only"" You are only allowed to recruit from external dwellings, all other units must be dismissed on the spot, with the exceptions of the starting units you get when you first hire a hero and the initial units available to you when you first purchase a creature dwelling (including the ones from Day 1). War machines and Portal of Summoning are allowed, as are hill forts and upgrading creatures in towns, other than that the usual rules apply (no DD, TP, Griffin Conservatories, Dragonfly Hives, etc).
@@alextubari Oh, I went through his channel before posting this to see if he had already done it and didn't find anything, how could I have missed this one? Thank you!
Long time no see MeKick! It's a lucky day to me today when I just thought about your channel in the morning and then I saw your new video. God blessed me!
Don't worry - I don't think I'll be running out of ideas for challenges anytime soon, especially since so many people bring up new ones every week. But who knows how long I'll want to keep doing these videos for? :P
That truly was an ingenious Teleport! I'm still not sure how to react to that one, lol. As for using Blind on the Titans, yeah, you got me! The AI somehow succeeded where I could not :(
No roads is how all maps should be. Having roads leading to castles, mines, and teleporters defeats the purpose of the native terrain penalty/advantage. When you have a hero with logistics, gloves, and boots you can go through an entire enemy biome/starting area in one turn. Lack of roads makes exploration more important and interesting. It also adds more value to Scouting as a skill.
Last time my comment went unnoticed. so i'm gonna try once again. An idea for challenge: each stack of units in your army has to be from the different fraction, and you also can have only one specific unit for each level, meaning you cannot, for. ex, have both pikemen and gremlins at the same time. To make things more interesting, you are also not allowed to boost your morale in any way. I would also recommend buying new units as soon as you can, so you won't end using 1-2 stacks during the entire game, which kinda miss the point since we've already had the one stack only challange.
Ok, here's a good challenge that should bring nostalgia to most players. No unit splitting. You can't have 2 of the same units in your team, you need to stack them. The rest of the rules like spells and number of AIs can be up to you.
While this isn't a bad suggestion, I already did the One Stack Per Hero challenge which is essentially a tougher variation of this idea. You can watch that episode at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-13MtCGK6n84.html.
Probably thinks that would defeat the purpose of the challenge, like how he was saying if he All Randomed and got Dungeon with Shakti he'd wanna restart
First aid challenge: you can only take fights with hero that has got aid tent and first aid secondary skill. If you lost the tent, you need to buy one.
You mean a challenge where I wouldn't be able to use the Wait command in combat? If so, then yes, this is more than possible and might even be too easy by itself. In fact, if memory serves correct, I technically did this challenge back in my Auto Combat Only playthrough since the Auto Combat AI doesn't use Wait (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N5dR68BcCLo.html if you're interested).
4:53:40 It’s no surprise that against 7 stacks with +1 morale each they get morale all the time. The chance for each stack in each round is 4.2%. That means, the chance of no stacks getting morale in two rounds is only 55%.
Mass haste and mass slow really do seem OP :( I feel like it is only fair to use them in their basic form. Then you can take Expert Water and Fire and have things like expert prayer, bless and precision, which would make for far more interesting matches. Cheers for trying to promote that, mr. Kick!
Here's a challenge that could be interesting - The Last Man Standing. You do a 1v7 FFA and unlike the siege challenge you can explore the map but you can attack after only 1 AI is remaining. So the game will start off slow - you can interact with anything on the map that isn't an enemy hero or an enemy town ( if you are lucky you can get a 2nd town that doesn't belong to anyone ) so you will be preparing for the end game all the time. It might get tedious waiting for 1 AI to take down all the other so you could go for a smaller map and maybe decrease the AI number.
You're welcome! When you're asking about finding the Grail in my upcoming videos, are you suggesting that I include it in as an additional handicap? Just in case you haven't seen it already, I did a Grail-centric challenge a while ago at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SNQci6PrOWg.html.
You should try to stream some Heroes III! I'm sure some Heroes III fanatics would appreciate it ;) Indeed, these episodes are exceptionally long, even for those who have "longer" videos. Cheers!
AI logic: "Playing against chain lightning spamming hero and have Pendant of Negativity at my disposal, guess I'll use this Necklace of Ocean Guidance then..." Dace, just before the end. 8:59:01
@@TheKnownWorld Good ol' coin toss? Also noticed later that AI had Emblem of Cognizance, maybe he was pushing for that Eagle Eye "benefits". I have a feeling it is valued skill in AI circles... :))
You know, this actually doesn't sound like a bad idea for a later challenge! Unfortunately, I already have the next few challenges lined up for the time being. I'll keep this one in mind for the future, though! It's good to know that you like my content :)
@@jonastoupal645 A challenge where he cant attack early would be much more difficult. Very slow start with few resources would put him couple weeks behind the Ai and even then he could only use a fraction of the army. I think he may even allow himself 1 day of attacking with every unit at the start to make it possible to build up the town
@@seaoftra So are you saying: Cannot initiate combat without tier 5 troops in army. Or once in combat cannot have a lower than tier 5 unit attack another creature.
@@seaoftra Again - he did a challenge where none of his units - even those above tier 5 - were not allowed to attack. He also did a challenge where he just sat in his town for 5 hours before being allowed to leave his zone.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY Still no girlfriend, at the moment i'm hesitating if I should write to one girl(well I'm old enough so I guess I should call them women now :D) that I like. I will that the appearance of you video as a sign that I must ask her out, please wish me luck! Until she responds more HOMM3 for me!
How come you don't play with the dirt roads usually? Does it have a particular movement value or is it a matter of just having too many roads on the map?
the dirt roads reduce the movement penalty to 75, while the other 2 types to 50 (per hex i think), and the dirt roads would replace some gravel roads (gravel roads lead to side areas most times), the stone roads will remain because they lead to towns and other main areas.
I don't know how I found this channel, but it is fun to watch. It has videos long enough that help me sleep also. Great channel keep it. Do you play any other HM&M games? if not, is their something about 3 that makes it your favorite or superior to other HM&M games?
It's great to hear that you find my content enjoyable and easy to sleep to! Unfortunately, I don't play any other Heroes of Might and Magic games at this time, but I've played Heroes II in the past. While I haven't yet played Heroes 6 and 7, I briefly tried Heroes 4 and Heroes 5, but I just didn't enjoy them as much as I enjoyed Heroes III. As someone who grew up with Heroes II and Heroes III, the main reason I prefer Heroes III over later entries is because the later Heroes games felt like they took too far of a departure from the gameplay in the first three games. I hope this answers your questions well!
At 6:25:45 you could have gotten ArchAngels. You only needed 1 Mercury and you had 50k gold. That drove me soo crazy. But love your videos and hope you post more soon😄
lol, but what would be the point of upgrading the Portal of Glory on that turn while I had 0 Angels available for purchase? Upgrading the Portal of Glory on that turn without any Angels on hand would do me no good at all :P Cheers!
To randomize things more, it would've been interesting to toss a coin every time you level up - if it's heads, select skill on the left; if it's tails, select skill on the right.
That's definitely one approach that I could've taken if the theme of this playthrough was strictly to make it as random as possible, but that wasn't the main objective of this episode. I wanted to focus mostly on the lack of roads while the random starting town and hero were added on as an additional handicap to make the match a bit more interesting.
NOOOO!!! YOU DID KILL GEM W WAY TO EARLY! :D we needed that big battle in the end Thx for great contant! I do think this video is top 3 of all your vids really great!
Sorry about that! I didn't want to take any chance, but I suppose I did kill off Gem a little too early :( I'm not sure I would go as far as putting this into my Top 3 videos, but this was a really fun match overall!
Now repeat all your previous challenges with no roads, all random 😁💥😂 Plus you should have ended the game like your streamed matches on Twitch - at the point when you eliminated the only real threat i.e. blue raider boss. You could skip the cleanup. Nice video overall. As for the formula I think "no roads" force the random generator to place everything even more at random so to speak, which is definitely more difficult - AI has more time to build up. The spoil of all your campaigns is that AI is generally so dumb when it comes to battles that it's almost boring :)
Next challenge: something really hard but using a good hero like Craig Hack or Gunner with fortress. It’d be nice to see those units with a decent hero for once
There's no such thing as a "Week of the Plague" in Heroes III. I believe you're thinking of "Month of the Plague", which only has a 10% chance of occurring for each month that passes. I'm not saying this to nitpick, but rather to point out that the odds of Month of the Plague occurring probably isn't as high as you would think for this playthrough.
Hi MeKick! Thank you for the videos. You are one of the best in youtube and i hope you will upload more gameplay videos in the future. Thank you once more. :)
Hello! I appreciate your kind words and I thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! You're welcome for the content! More videos will be coming soon :)
@@TheKnownWorld I watching youre videos every day. HOMM3 is such a grat game i still learning new things in the game and youre videos helping me a lot, finally i was able to beat my friends with Inferno. The demon framing stratege is awsome. :)
I already upload these episodes whenever I can, so I can't promise these video releases any quicker than they're coming out at the moment. Sorry about that! Besides that, I hope you enjoy the video!
