*Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):* 1. What mods do you use for Heroes III? / What version of the game are you using? I usually play Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death with the HD mod (downloadable from sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/). Sometimes, I'll also use Horn of the Abyss (also known as HotA), but I'm not using it in this video. The HD mod is responsible for most of the features that you see in my videos. Note that the Heroes III HD mod is not compatible with Ubisoft's HD Edition on Steam. 2. How do I get your version of the game? Shadow of Death is functionally the same (e.g. there are no gameplay differences) as the Heroes III Complete Edition, which you can get from www.gog.com/game/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_edition for relatively cheap. Horn of the Abyss can be obtained from download.h3hota.com/HotA_setup. 3. How do you see how far units can move in combat? This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1) and can be done by mousing over a unit and holding down the CTRL key. 4. What are the hotkeys that you use? This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1). The most frequent hotkeys that I use for army management are: - CTRL+Click to create a 1-stack - ALT+Click to group up all units of the same type into one big stack - SHIFT+Click to split a stack into two halves - CTRL+SHIFT+Click to fill up all remaining empty slots with a 1-stack A full list of the hotkeys that the HD mod provides can be found at sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/description/extended-ui. 5. How do you display the extended hero details while setting up a map? This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1) and can be done simply by right-clicking on a hero's portrait while selecting a hero. Note that Single Scenarios do not support this feature. 6. How do you step through Two-Way Monoliths and Subterranean Gates without moving your hero? Pressing the Space Bar key will cause your hero to step on the same square that they are currently on, allowing them to move through Two-Way Monoliths and Subterranean Gates at will. The Space Bar key can also be used on Water Wheels, Windmills, Mystical Gardens, and other map objects. Note that this feature is only available in versions of Heroes III that come later than Restoration of Erathia, meaning that this cannot be done in Ubisoft's HD Edition on Steam. 7. How can I get my unit animations in combat to be as fast as yours? To get accelerated unit animations, download crAnim.txt from heroesportal.net/getfile.php?file=/files/information/16/Cranim.txt and put it into the Data folder of your Heroes III directory.
@@gl6519 I think I explained the bug a little while later in the video. But in case you didn't catch my explanation, the bug I was referring to allows you to reduce the size of a group of unupgraded Wandering Monsters by repeatedly sending heroes to fight them if the group contains at least one upgraded stack. Regardless of whether you lose the battle or retreat, the upgraded stack will disappear when the battle is over. Thus, by sending heroes to fight the stack over and over, the upgraded stack in the battle will keep disappearing until there are relatively few monsters left.

Ah, that's an easy question to answer. I don't think I play nearly as much as you think I do. While Heroes III is a great game, I've always played it quite sparingly. Even now I play roughly twice a month (once as a practice run for a challenge and once to do the video itself). Also, whenever I do play, I make sure to have some kind of goal or challenge to follow beyond the usual "win the game" victory condition.
Saying out loud your thought process and decision making alongside with being a skillful player are things that actually earned you 20k subs. You’ve earned it ;) Anyway, love your content, I was worried about your recent inactivity, but am glad that you came back in style :D
It takes two to tango. While my skill level and commentary style may have been a contributing factor in getting people to enjoy my videos, it was only thanks to the support of the community via liking and subscribing that this channel could've made it this far. Whether I earned it or not, I'm grateful to many of you! My inability to make videos as of recent was a bit of a bummer, but as you said, I'm now back in style. I played HoMM 2 Gold and HoMM 3 complete. I only recently found your channel and let me say: I love your format and watching you play has changed the game completely for me. I'm now back in it after watch hours of your footage and having a completely new HoMM experience. Thank you and keep up the great content!
Highlights for me were the epic gremlin siege, getting town portal scroll, wasting that pandora box, Theo scouting Anti-Magic, the crazy early stats of the purple lady and the crazy late stats of our beardy guy and of course, Damacon's double suicide mission. Could it have been chain lightning? He had it as a scroll, although I'm not familiar with how AI uses it. Great video, went through it in a day and a half, very entertaining challenge, made a lot of units join the meta. Your channel is amazing, honestly. I never thought that I would follow any gaming channels since, like everyone else, I fancy using the free time I get to play on my own. However, your thought process and passion for the game makes it more enjoyable to watch rather than play, that is really saying something. Your articulation also I find very satisfying. The icing on the cake is that you have nothing in common with what youtube's channel formula has become, but that is another topic. Thank you for the vods! As someone who always played on the easy difficulty as a kid, while watching my father doing campaigns on the impossible difficulty I never thought that one day I would just watch a few videos, read a few guides through reddit and end up winning 1v7 200% with most of the factions (I'm sorry, inferno is just bad and the magoggies can't make up for it) Since I've deleted the game because right now I cannot afford to play as much as I'd like, I will come back to your channel every now and then once you put up a new video. It would also be really cool if you eventually play the Survival map, my boy Ceks recently did a nice playtrough on it. Or if that's too easy, you could do something with dragons. Dragons are cool and we don't see the game centered around them very often (probably because they cannot be rushed)
You've definitely pointed out the main highlights of the match, especially including Damacon's double suicide. What a great game it was! There were many ups and downs overall. Chain Lightning is technically a possible cause of the double suicide, but I would be hard-pressed to imagine how close the battle had to have been for Damacon to use it in such a way where both his final units and his opponent's final units both died simultaneously. But honestly, with Summon _ Elementals out of the picture, your guess is as good as any other I could come up with. It's good to know that you think so highly of my channel! I myself enjoy spending my own free time playing games whenever I can, so I'm always amazed when there are others who are willing to settle down and watch my content instead of playing the game themselves by their own free will. I'm glad you like my articulation and the channel's layout as well :) You're welcome for the videos! I know exactly how you feel - when my brother first introduced me to Heroes III, I used to look up to him as my personal Heroes III guru. To be honest, if i were to aproach this challenge in an optimal way, i would start dungeon with shakti, because obviously shakti works great with the 1 stack rule (i think), and with dungeon you can either rely on magic portal to build a power stack or transition into a dracoggedon start later on. Just my 2 cents :)
lol, Shakti kind of is, but I think he's definitely fair game for this challenge. I just thought that it would be more fun to mess around with Tower and Theodorus. ;)
My dad introduced me to heroes 3 when I was 4 years old I'm currently 20 and im still playing to this day and this channel is the best thing I've ever stumbled upon. You are very creative with your challenges, and purely amazing analysing even tho silly mistakes always happen im entertained to spent 11 hours of watching your videos. Hope to see more

I appreciate your opinion! You would think that people wouldn't mind me being thorough in what is supposed to be a "slow-paced game", but I've received plenty of complaints about how my turns could be a lot faster and that I overthink my moves and yadda yadda yadda. So I've been trying to work on some balance between being reasonably fast on my turns while still delivering my thoughts to the viewer, but sometimes taking it slow is unavoidable. Cheers!

Don't worry - I don't care much for how quickly other players can play at all. However, whether the intent of these players is to show off or not, I still consider their feedback valid criticism and I thus take into consideration whether or not I want to do something about issues that they bring up. In this case, I've given them the benefit of the doubt and I've decided to try and play a little bit more quickly when I can. :)
Hey! There's new Survival template and it's all about challenge, I bet you'd like it. You play vs 7 allied AIs and they get some nice little bonuses to level the field so to say...
Actually, this template was brought to my attention not too long ago and I've already begun tinkering around with it. It's definitely an interesting template, but given my limited free time right now, I don't know if/when I'll get around to doing a video on it at some point.

You know, in how few turns can you win a 200% game if using every trick in the book kind of deal. Of course, all the respec if that's not something you're interested in, just think it'd be a fun video. Love your content!
To some extent, it's good to be back! Regarding the request for a speedrun, you're definitely not the first person to bring it up. While I do think that a speedrun would be a pretty fun idea to try, I'm a bit hesitant to play a game without rules at this time since the strategy I would use to win such a game is not one that I want to showcase right now. Sorry about that! It's nice to know that you're enjoying my videos!
A challenge idea: hero levelling gets capped at Level 5 --> Whenever one of your heroes reaches level 5 or beyond you have to disband it (but you're allowed to transfer his army to another hero). Not sure if that's difficult enough (maybe max level 3 is better) but seems interesting to me!
Oh, don't worry. I already have a challenge like this in the works, but I'm planning to go all out when I do it. In other words, Level 1 heroes all the way! ;D

You are really good at this game, I remember playing it with one hero only because controlling two heroes (or more) was a pain. I was really young at that point...but I played this game so much!!
That's awesome! When I was much younger, I also played a lot and used one or two heroes at the most. It was only recently after watching others play that I realized how much easier your life becomes when you have more heroes out at once.

But who am I to tell you this until I do better myself - which I probably never will because your knowledge far outweighs mine! Hello Meckcik, I love watching your challange vids and i have one idea for you :) It's called "Newbie Challange" 1. Town is whatever you choose 2. You can't use single unit stacks, only full stack of unit. 3. When you level up you always have to choose WORSE ability (ex. you have to choose between Armorer and Resistance you know what you have to do, I hope you get it :) ) 4. In battles you are obliged to use only offensive spells that deal dmg (they are the most powerfull of course ;) ) 5. In town you must first complete Capitol (it gives money it's best building) I dont know if its gonna be super hard or not, maybe town building would be tricky bit i hope you can do it.
Hello! Sorry, but I'll probably have to veto your idea for two reasons. The first reason is that I'm trying to avoid having challenges that overlap with one another. In this case, the "Newbie Challenge" would not only overlap with One Stack Per Hero, but it would also overlap with another challenge that I plan to do in the near future. The second reason is that I prefer my challenges to focus on one particular premise. Here you have listed five rules that would make for a rather difficult match, but I feel that these rules are not related enough to each other that I can comfortably merge them all together for one big challenge. It would be difficult for viewers (and even myself) to keep track of all of them as I go along the match. It's good to hear that you're enjoying my content!

Amazing challenge, I' ve learnt a lot from your games. New suggested challenge for u is to not wear artifacts/scrolls on any hero and to refrain from visiting any external buildings for gaining or increasing your skills, experience or spells .I am not sure whether it would be possible.

Hello! It's nice to hear that you enjoy listening to my videos before going to bed :) Sorry, but I think I'll have to turn you down on All Random. While randoming my town, hero, and starting bonus might sound fun to watch, I doubt that such a match would go much differently from a standard match of Heroes III that I would play. For example, I would probably end up switching my main hero to the first "good" one that I can get my hands on. That's not even factoring in how some "random templates" are either imbalanced, lengthy, or buggy and I would rather not deal with that. Cheers from Canada!
Armageddon strategy was literally the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the concept of this video so I was a little surprised when you didn't choose dungeon as your fraction. Could have been malekith one chance to be a great main.

No, I haven't, but this challenge sounds like a strange one indeed. What's stopping me from stacking all of the units from my starting town before I go and capture any other towns? Conversely, would I have to dismiss all the units I already gathered prior to capturing a town if I successfully manage to capture it?
Challenge: first town you own you can only buy tier 1 creatures, second town only tier 2, third town tier 3 and so on. No external dwellings, except if they match the towns allowed recruitment tier, for example from first towns area you can take first tier creatures from dwellings. Also no necromancy, diplo etc
Harry yes it probably is easier, but thats because this one was hella hard. Not being able to use multiple stacks is huge. However I think the challenge would at least be interesting to watch

If your still interested in challenges, i have some HARDCORE Crazy ones, you might enjoy... 1... Faction Only Challenge... ( Win a game with Units exclusive only to that faction your playing... ) no trading units, or no using units from any other town ( That includes Neutral Units Too )... 2... Anti Magic Challenge... Win a game WITHOUT using any magic at all... no spells, from your spell book... the only exception to this are units that can cast spells on their own... 3... Death Wish Challenge... Combined Anti Magic Challenge with the most weakest faction in the game... good luck... im sure you can think of more... anyways Kudos to you man, i Love your Videos... =)

11 hours of pure fun! I watched it allway through and I got to say it was somewhat challanging till the very end compared to your previous matches that I did not finish watching because it felt like you had everything in the bag. It was a hell of a journey which I watched for 10 days, I put together a jigsaw puzzle at the same time and returned to the video when I got bored of the puzzle lol. I even fell asleep next to my puzzle thanks to this video once but it was ok xD. Thanks for giving me something to do when I am bored man! Nice template, good faction, I loved the op spellbans, I loved the rough start and long game with strong opponents, even liked to see how you got jebaited 2 times. Overall you are a fun guy who's games to watch and I love the fact that you make these challanging. Keep up the good work man! Next challange is the dwelling only one right? :D

It's good to be back (sort of)! I've played Heroes II in the past and I quite like the game. Having said that, right now my main focus for this channel is on Heroes III specifically since I have a soft spot for the game and I know it intimately well. Given the limited amount of time I have, I don't plan to change that anytime soon. I also play Modern Warfare 2 and DotA 2 from time to time, but I'm not interested in making videos for these games right now either. P.S. Send my regards back to Fiona ;)

But for what it's worth, I still would've won that siege regardless of whether I got Morale or not. The Morale proc preserved maybe a handful or two of Master Gremlins whereas the "early moralka shenanigans" cost me a lot more. I don't accept the game's apology. :( Also, I think I had a right to be excited about that siege. That was a turning point in the match since I finally managed to take down an AI player after the first month. Huzzah!

You make a point in not using TP, but you've retreated hearoes and bought them in different cities several times in your vids. You don't consider that to be unallowed, because of the gold price? That being said, love your vids man. You made me download the HD mod and play the game again with new knowledge and joy : )
Good question! I first began prohibiting the use of Fly, Dimension Door, and Town Portal in my videos because these were the spells that I regularly saw getting banned in Heroes III PvP matches. That's all there is to it, for the most part. I also think it worth pointing out that Poor Man's Town Portal often requires more preparation than Town Portal. With Poor Man's Town Portal, you not only need Gold to rehire your hero in another town, but you also need some number of Movement Points to attack a stack of Wandering Monsters too. That's not factoring in the number of Movement Points that goes into bringing your army back to your main hero via Hero Chaining, which can easily eat up an entire day's worth of movement for many of your side heroes. The cost and setup involved in Poor Man's Town Portal is often far more expensive than the Town Portal spell, which only requires 300 Movement Points and 16 Spell Points in the worst case scenario. It's good to know that you're enjoying my content and that I was able to get you back into this amazing game! :)
I spend more time with this videos last times then anything else it’s weird but pleasure. I used to watch total war videos but my favourite guy quit RU-vid due to his new job. This I find very entertaining a commentary is very good and simple.(my English is bad and I understand everything you say you don’t use some crazy MOP DOD three letter words) A length of videos is just perfect tho it could be twice as longer and I wouldn’t mind ! Music in heroes 3 bring so much relief of the daily routine. Keep up brother you doing a solid work ! PS: what happens if you have units in castle and a hero units during a siege do enemy have to fight hero first then castle units ?
It's nice to hear that you find my commentary enjoyable and that you're okay with the length of the video! If you have a hero in your town and a hero outside of the town, then an enemy has to attack the hero outside the town first. If you have no hero in your town and a hero outside of the town, then your hero will get moved into town for the battle. If I recall correctly, that hero's army will also merge with the army inside your town.
i watched this on release day. and i am rewatching it again. 11hrs of none stop gameplay haha. first time i watched this video took me about 1 week to finish. today i am on my 3rd day xD
