I wish she could see herself as we see her. She’s so smart. Eloquently spoken. She’s got a great head on her shoulders. I pray she gets the healing she wants for her addiction AND for her pain. Praying for you girlfriend. You CAN do this!!!!

I had to come back and watch this 4 years later because today Mark posted a new video of Maggie. I hate to see you like that but i don't know what the answer is. I know how it feels impossible when also dealing with chronic pain but you are so smart and kind and good...i hope beyond hope you find what you need, contentment and inner peace and happiness so that you can move past all of this for good. I live in a UK working class town, I think it has the potential to be ghetto level. There are riot vans and police are called out pretty much daily. Just yesterday the police came with a battering ram and took out one of the doors in my house looking for a crack addict, a boys been moved here straight from a prison hostel, there's stabbings and house raids, burglary, people doing weed everywhere three houses, two of which down the street, are within two minute walks, crack is available within five minute walk, heroin in a back alley if you fancy walking ten. go into a shop, ask the shopkeeper if they know who sells the drug you want, they'll give you the number, spoken from experience, been threatened out of a tenner to supply a drug addicted friend as well, then she was round threatening again a week later rang cops this time, racism too, neighbour threatened a family that only spoke polish, mate its so bad I stay in my room i don't walk to the shops or anything, I only leave if I'm leaving the town altogether because i could get beaten up by the lass who threatened me or by some other cunt like her mates or a stranger- yet despite this my town has an incredibly high tourist rate for a small town, and good nightlife seeking tourists who come for the nightclubs, it's fucking bad that it has such a great reputation described as quiet I publish poetry on instagram and shit about my experiences because that helps and it gives me something to focus on when I'm staying in the town or i use drugs but that's becoming a really big problem now.

Nino, I’m open to coordinating a financial donation to some of the people I’ve photographed. Please be aware that 99.9% of them will use the money to support their addiction. If you’re thinking that a contribution might save them, I urge you to rethink that effort. The problem with virtually all of these people is not that they’re addicted to drugs. Nor is it that they’re homeless or jobless. It’s that they were never loved properly as children and now, as adults they play out the self destructive behaviors of those who just can’t or won’t love themselves. This is why I always get around to asking about their childhood. I believe it’s the key to all of our problems. Without being properly loved and supported with desirable role models in our lives as children, we grow into self destructive adults who just cannot seem to break free of our self sabotaging selves. Donate all you like, but the solution lies in the next generation’s raising of properly loved children, not propping up already damaged adults. I’m certain that there are a few individuals who might be able to break free of this fate (and Maggie seems like a likely woman to do so), but I’ve seen so many now that would quickly turn a job, a house and a recovery from addiction back into the mess you see in many of these people’s lives. Again, addiction, homelessness or joblessness are not the core problem. They’re just the adult symptoms of a lack of love in our childhood. Email me if you’re serious about sending money to any of these people. I’ll send you a video clip of their response. Thanks for watching. ML

@@SoftWhiteUnderbelly Succinctly stated! The dilemma lies in the fact that this viscous cycle is doomed to repeat with each generation. How do we, as a society, break the cycle? Our current system is clearly failing. Children and family services nationwide are drastically underfunded, understaffed and overwhelmed. Our schools are crumbling; our teachers deflated and exhausted. Our prisons overflowing. Your videos reveal the dark sides of humanity; the pain, the unique, yet oh so similar stories of abuse and neglect...brief glimpses of hope. Perhaps, some day, we will actually find solutions. Hello. I have had 3 back surgeries always in pain was on oxycontin for 4 years but now clean from it for 2 years. My leg is 3/4 of an inch shorter cause I was born a cripple. You can get your legs measured from your hip and an orthopaedic shoe place can build a lift on the shoe for your shorter leg which helps improve the pain because it makes your body level when you walk or stand. Hang in there

Staying clean is not only about staying away from the drug of their preference, and the people they used with, and the places they frequented when active. Some people stay clean for a while but they don't do real work with themselves and unfortunately keep relapsing. Sadly a lot of these people don't get to institutions where they can benefit from a recovery program that treats them holistically and not just as an "addict", where they can learn to know more about themselves (most of them know only who they are in relation to horrid contexts of abuse and misery). They need to be given the opportunity to learn healthy coping skills so they can stay away from that drug when they get overwhelmed by emotions and destructive thoughts. They need an opportunity to be the best they can be, and to see how much they have to share and give to this world. I wish our systems had more capacity to truly rehabilitate these human beings. It gets even more complicated if one delves into the very core of the issue... the home :-( Thanks for this channel.
