Thailand has some amazing snakes, lizards, and other reptiles, and the red-tailed green rat snake and mangrove cat-eyed snake are among them. In this video, we cruise down a river near Khoa Sok National Park to see what we can find, and well, our day ended in the hospital.

Lol After living in Asia for 8 years I'll never understand the inflated medical costs in the states, which has nothing to do with quality of care or state-of-the-art equipment because in my experience it was on par or superior to what I've seen here in the states. Great video! The Red-tailed Green Rat snake is wild looking!

Absolutely love Dan and apple they are the most stand up amazingly real people just all around beautiful humans. Apple is such a trooper man , she's a ride or die. I hope one day to be able to finally meet them in person after communicating through online content for years now with them.

I had to see a doctor a while back for a mandatory referral. It literally only took 5 minutes for the doctor to say “looks like the antibiotics worked” and sent me on my way. A few weeks later I got the bill and it was over $700.... Our healthcare system in America is absolute trash. Just for a simple infection I ended up spending thousands of dollars in total effectively draining my savings.

What an awesome trip. Hope Dan is all healed up by now. That female videographer was quick to respond and took good care of Dan. It was great to meet you at the Bloomington Expo. I've never fan-girled like that before. Probably scared that young man with you half to death (your son?). LOL! Have a fun and safe adventure on your next trip. I love freshwater puffers! I kept Pea puffers for a while, and looked after some other species when I worked for an aquatic pet store. I used to let the babies nibble my fingertips, but the adults pack quite a bite!

I’m so glad all of u r so adventurous ( crazy/brave ) hahaha. All of that scenery from the water was so gorgeous and that’s as close as I’ll ever get to seeing it 😀 the green on that first rat snake was unbelievable 😳 poor Dan, with that abrupt ending to that search. U just know he was as disappointed as anyone. I love all of u together out there!! I’ve enjoyed each person in ur group. I was a tad worried about Dans cut being n that water.... hope they cleaned it up extra well 👍🏻 I’m having a blast watching all of u over there!

That mangrove snake was stunning, almost an iridescent black. Also I cant believe how fast that last rat snake moved.

Been there done that two times. You also find retics along Sok river. Never saw a Ptyas. When you walk on the trails you can find many other snakes like temple vipers, keelbacks species, Trimeresurus and Boiga species. My favorite place in Thailand. A visit to the lake is one of the nicest things you will ever see.

Even what we would consider not major can end in disaster in tropical, wet environments, especially underwater with all the bacteria. Glad he got treatment and he's good to go! That mangrove snake was a thing of perfection.

Sweet!!! I was hoping to see some Mangroves on the Thailand series! Hands down a personal favorite!! I always wanted to get one but I never see them in the hobby. I hope the cut heals up quick! The risks we take to catch the snake. I honestly think that is good to include, it shows how careful you have to be when you're out herping, and why you should always have a plan. Safe travels!!

YAAAAAS, my absolute favorite Saturday video! 🥰 that red-tailed green rat snake was an absolute beauty. Rafting while herping seems like the most exciting activity in existence, especially in Thailand! Guess I'm gonna have to get a Mangrove snake at some point (since I'm a Steelers fan 😁)

I wanna breed RTG Ratsnakes. I've heard varying things about their demeanor but yeah. Also, they were prob worried about infection/parasites more than blood loss, considering little prior resistance etc. Glad he is ok!

That stinks dan ended the trip... But long as everyone is ok thats what matters ...... I seen dans video but i loke watching from a different perspective .. Red-tailed green tree rat snake: Gorgeous! I love the black outline in between the green scales!! Mangrove snake: They absolutely are gorgeous. But even rear-fanged, I don't think anything even mildly venomous is for me. Poor Dan. Glad it wasn't anything worse. I was afraid someone got bit by something venomous.

By the way,I shouldnt have forgotten to say this to you both.....Ive learned so much from you,we all have really, from yourself,Dan,Brian and Brian,Dingo,Al the viperkeeper. You folks take us on your exotic adventures and not only do you all freely give incredibly interesting info on the region,the plant life,bird life,people,and the reptiles you encounter but all of you are just really happening,kewl folks. Im older than all of you,I can honestly tell you when I first got in at 8 or 9 our hobby was not so. Too much snootiness,snobbery,elitism and asking questions of my supposed mentors was like performing a root canal to get info out of them. Honestly,what I learned,I got from Ray Ditmars,Carl Kauffields books and Bill Haast. Whats so incredible now as opposed to back then,I recall Ray Ditmars and Carl stating in their books they stopped displaying any of the mambas and bushmasters in their reptile houses at the zoo, because they couldnt keep them alive for long. Despite research by both and others to try to find out why they couldnt keep them alive,they couldnt solve the problem. Now, both species are stable,hardy and reproducing in captivity.

Dav....I must have watched this video and the retic vid 10X already and still get excited. What I like about these canoe trips is I really dig the RedTails,Mangroves,Retics,and Keeled Rats,and theres seems to always be a good chance to see all. I would be a pain in the fanny to take along on these trips because along with the herps,Im a rock and mineral hound too. Love seeing you and Dan hook up for Thai adventures. From now on my names for you 2 are Bull Kaufman and Ptyas Dan for obvious reasons. I live in Eastern Pennsylvania and go to the Hamburg reptile show several times/yr. Are you breeding for any black bullsnakes or flames this year?

are you going to start carrying a small first aid kit in your bag now? Not trying to play armchair quarterback, but that cut looks like it could easily have been taken care of in the field with pretty minimal supplies and a little first aid training. Or alternatively, you could start taking someone with medical experience and a love of herps on your trips. I am available anytime! haha

I carry a medical kit and it gets larger with experience. We carry epipens, tons of meds, bandages, etc. New additions are a tourniquet, quikclot and pressure bandages. The cut went all the way to the bone. I probably could have stitched it myself but because we were not that far from civilization it was unnecessary and easier just to get proper medical attention. However, when we head far off the grid, the game changes a bit. Also, Dav edited his video to be less graphic because youtube demonetized mine because of blood.

Dave - correct me if my correction is incorrect, but the Latin/scientific genus name of the red-tailed green rat snake (Gonyosoma) is pronounced "GONE - YO - SO - MA" or "GONE - EE - OH - SO - MA", not "GUY - NO....." (i.e., not like the first two syllables of GYNOCOLOGY).
