I agree Chris. In fact, I wear gloves the entire time I am on the boat. I also change my gloves frequently. Whether you are fishing trout and kokanee to salmon, steelhead and sturgeon, it is important to keep human scent as well as those other scents we pick up, off our lures, leaders, fishing line, etc.

What speed do you troll with this method?

There is no solid answer to this question. Here is why... It completely depends on where you are fishing. What is the tide doing? Are you trolling with the tide? If so, you might be moving as fast as 4.5 on the gps. Are you trolling against the tide? You might be only going 1.9mph on the gps. Are you using cut plug herring with downriggers or are you using cannon ball droppers on a river? Or are you flat lining. My suggestion to you is to put it in the water and see what the spin looks like at the speed you are moving. With this cut, it should roll very tightly. About the size of a soda can. If you achieve that roll, your speed is right. Thank you for your question and I hope my reply helps you.

do you ever use three hooks

I do not. If it is legal in your area, you could try it and see how it spins. Just make sure the spin is tight.

+John Lundquist You should be able to find one in your local tackle store, if you live near a place that fishes cut plug bait. If not, go online to Cabela's.

Great video! I think wearing gloves when handling lures is a commonly overlooked item.

Upper hook isn't really protruding? Will the upper hook break through the bait when the salmon chomp on it?

If you look closely at 4:39, you will see the top hook is outside on top of the herring. The hook point rests against the top of the herring. Give it a try, you will see. Thanks for watching.
