How to knit Herringbone Stitch in the round.
You will need to be sure your stitch marker is in the correct position with each round, and you will need to twist the first stitch of each new round. All of this is shown in the video.

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for this video - I have been working on the Purl Bee Herringbone Cowl forever and for some reason the first round always confused me - but now you make it seem so easy! Thank you, thank you!

THANK YOU! I was watching your back'n'forth herringbone tutorial and trying to figure out how to convert the pattern to working in the round and VOILÀ! You've already done it. Like I said before, THANK YOU!!!!

Great tutorial! Your instructions are very clear. Just to be sure I am understanding correctly, we are only Re-orienting that one stitch at the begging of the second round? The stitch marker has been put in proper position and then we twist the stitch to start knitting through the back loop?

I love this stitch and would like to use it in a shaped piece. Is there a particular increase or decrease you would use for this or is it only appropriate to "squared" pieces?

Could you potentially change this up to make the diagonal lines two rows long before they switch direction? Or would it mess up the whole thing? Like, could you knit rows 1 and 2 the same, and then switch and do rows 3 and 4 the same, and then alternate 2 rows of each stitch back and forth?

I haven't tried it any other way, but there isn't any reason you can't experiment. I'd love to see what you come up with if you play around!

Hi! I have been doing the herringbone stitch in round for ~10 inches now and I'm using your stitch marker tracking technique, but my seam is still diagonal.. But instead of the seam being diagonal to the left like in your first swat, mine is diagonal to the right .... Is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Hmm, it is a bit hard to tell without seeing what you are doing, and mine has always gone to the left. I'm afraid I can't be sure why this is happening. You could use it as a 'design feature', as I do sometimes when things go wonky :-)

Which cast on method did you use here please?

Long tail is my go-to cast on, so that is probably what I used here.

I tried this but it came out all ribbed looking, with little braids running through. what am I doing wrong?
@iknitwithcatfur
@iknitwithcatfur 7 лет назад
It is hard to tell what the problem is since I can't see you knitting, but it sounds like you may not be working each stitch twice. After you work the stitches together, only drop the first stitch from the needle.
@Loungemermaid
@Loungemermaid 7 лет назад
I am doing that, it's ribbing horizontally. Like I knit a braid in it. Could it be that I'm using too small a needle?
@Loungemermaid

I figured it out! I wasn't turning it

Why do you keep calling your right needle your left needle? Everything about the video is clear except for that.
