Who remembers when Hershey made the chocolate powder that you added to the milk ? I got into so much trouble because I bent a lot of spoons trying to open the top of the can because the cap was pressed on too tight.

After watching this, I've never craved a Hershey Bar like I do right now!!

Everyone is familiar with Hershey chocolate, but I believe Milton Hershey's greatest legacy is the Milton Hershey School, founded in 1909 and providing free education for impoverished children, grades K through 12. Everything is free: books, clothing, tuition, medical care, food. It's the opportunity of a lifetime for children who might otherwise slip through the cracks. Additionally, when the Great Depression hit in 1929, rather than laying off workers he gave them jobs building the Hotel Hershey, which to this day is an attraction in itself. A true philanthropist and all-around good guy.

Hershey's was to Americans as Cadbury was to the Brits (or Nestlé to the Swiss).

Milton Hershey, H.J. Heinz, George Westinghouse, Ettore Boiardi, Man! Pennsylvania had a lot of industrialists who proved that you CAN be a decent employer AND make it big.

The band I worked with in the late 80's through mid 90's always played 1 to 2 weeks in the Hersheypark Amphitheater each year. A couple of those years we backed that up with a couple of weeks playing the club at the Hershey Lodge. I always looked forward to getting to spend time in Chocolate Town USA. A lot of great memories.

Milk chocolate has always been at the top of my favorite kinds of chocolates! White chocolate has to be a close second!

I remember in the 1950s we kids were concerned the 5 cent chocolate bar was doomed. Sarge in Beatle Bailey subscribed to a warning service to let him know when the 5 cent bar was doomed so he could run to town and stock up.

And that's how Hershey's was given the title "The Great American Chocolate Bar". 🍫

Hershey Krackel Bar came back after WW2. I remember in the 60s and 70s it was in a red wrapper.

They are just starting to reproduce the first candy bar wrapper! The 1906 wrapper is faithfully reproduced.

When I think of Hershey’s I always think of Hershey’s Syrup and the Messy Marvin chocolate milk commercials on Saturday mornings.

We still make the original Hershey fudge. Also went to Hershey park and did the tour. We always have kisses in the candy bowl. My fave are the cherry/chocolate that come out at Christmas. We go through bags and bags of those. lol

Too many favorites to name but I don't think I will ever outgrow those wonderful Hershey's treats!

I remember growing up in the Philippines my mother would bring home American chocolates. It was one of the most anticipated gifts along with Irish springs soap. Even now it’s still a favorite gift to send to Philippines. They don’t care about fancy Swiss chocolates but Hershey kisses the kids clamor to.

I just ate a Whatchamacallit bar. I love them!

Surprised you didn’t mention that before the chocolate bar, Hershey made his money selling his chocolate to other candy manufacturers.

My father told me when he was young, the local tavern would sell Hershey bars. He and his friends would eat them while drinking beer! I thought that sounded weird, until I tried it. I have since heard there are breweries that make chocolate beer!

There would not be "Smores" without a Hershey Bar!!!

Loved the bags of "Kisses". And of course the Hershey Almond Chocolate Bar...my favorite as a kid in the 60's. If a house was giving out chocolates on Halloween, I would change my mask so I could back for more. Sadly, a woman who lived a couple blocks away put out a big bowl full of giant candy bars (3 Musketeers, Snickers, Hersheys, etc.) with a sign that said "Please Take Just One". No matter how early we hit that house the bowl was already empty. She was either very clever and was saving money, or the first kid there just dumped the whole bowl into their bag.

Hershey park opened in the early 1900’s. The first coaster was added in the early 20’s. The 1970’a was when they introduced the sooper dooper looper.

One of my favorite holiday commercials was the bunch of Hershey Kisses being like bells and playing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." And at the end one of the Kisses goes "Whew".😁

Been to Hershey park and went on a tour of the factory when I was in elementary school. I still remember that. At the end of the tour we all received a HUGE Hershey bar.

I remember the chocolate bars wrapped in silver foil... my hands used to shake open that candy bar... one because I know it was delicious and two because I wasn’t supposed to eat it ! ( the dental Bills)😂

A very long time ago my parents and I visited my Mom's Aunt. We took a side trip to Hershey.

Loved my visit to Hershey Park in the early 80s! Hershey's was my favorite chocolate until about twenty years ago when I realized that I am lactose-intolerant. Now, I eat dark chocolate. My grandchildren have eaten so many Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Reese's Piexes that I've joked I should have bought stock in Hershey's.

I had my first HB in the late 1950s as a small kid. I would not eat the ones with Almonds. Then as an adult I prefer the HB's with almonds exclusively.😁👍

I would be interested to know how he came up with "kisses" for the candy bits.

They now have a White Chocolate cookies and cream bars.

My Paternal Great Grandfather was Milton Hershey's salesman at The Hershey Caramel Company in Lancaster, PA.

And in a few minutes I'm going to have the 1 1/2 fun-sized Hershey chocolate bars I eat every night while watching YT. If I didn't limit myself, I could eat them until I blow up like a blimp.

The plant in southern Illinois is now hiring. If only I was younger.

What made Hershey's Chocolate unique was the milk they used. It had a slightly sour taste Americans love. European Chocolate is sweeter. It seems that Europeans do not care for the taste of American Chocolate.

Milton Hershey was supposed to be on the Titanic (the cancelled check is in the Hershey Museum), but business interest made him change his plans. Likely he would have been lost if he'd been on board.

I remember taking the tour of the factory as a child and just about overdosing on chocolate. The tour back then would allow you to walk right though the production area unencumbered. I can't begin to guess how many times people would dip their fingers into the giant vats of melting chocolate, despite being warned not to. The smell was overwhelming throughout the factory. Every Easter we would visit Hershey. Great family memories of a great time in America.

I remember a few years ago I went to Hershey amusement park in Hershey, Pennsylvania and I was scared to ride the Rollercoasters, especially one called Fahrenheit. I thought the teen girl on her summer job didn't strap me in properly. She had to check it twice. Good memories of being flung through the air at 60 mph. Speeding around corners and going upside down. Cobra rolls. Airtime loops. Plus the record breaking 97 degree drop on the first hill. 121 feet tall. Maximum fear factor. I almost got off in front of my girlfriend and everyone else on the ride haha how embarrassing. Then we went on a pleasant kiddie ride with Hershey cartoon characters and free chocolate at the end. I remember the gift shop had all the Hershey products you could ever imagine. It was like Willy Wonkas factory.

At 0,51 minutes it is outstanding to see how long the machinery hall was in its greatness.

Funny how the chocolate products we call Reese's are actually Hershey's in all but name! In fact the standard package of Reese's peanut butter cups is The Hershey Company's best seller!

Hershey would kick me out off their park every year :( it was fun!

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are one of my most shameful and enjoyable addictions. My brother and I always include them in our gift stockings at Christmas.

I was surprised they didn't mention the part Hershey played in WWII and providing candy bars to the military.

I wish that they still used their original recipe for the Special Dark bar. As someone who is highly sensitive to dairy, it was disappointing when they started using butterfat in this bar in, as their customer rep told me, an attempt to make it more like the milk chocolate bar to appeal to the milk chocolate lovers. I told them they already had bar that did that.

I love chocolate! I have a square of dark chocolate each day. I've also had such things as chocolate soup, chocolate pasta and meat with a chocolate rub (if I remember right).

I remember walking through the factory. Last time we went they had a ride instead of. Went back one year with a bf, got to Palmyra and a building downtown was engulfed in flames. Met his dad, the fire chief, amongst the crowd.

Good timing...... Monday just happens to be the birthday of H.B. Reese, who was from York county, southwest of Hershey.

I've been to Belgium and had their chocolate.Been to Paris and Kiev and had theirs too.Hersheys is still number one in my book.....Oh god,now I want som Reese's Cups.

Back in the 70s and 80s my parents took us to Hersheypark a few times. It was because the Christian organization called Word of Life used to rent the park and then have Word of Life Family days there. I guess then the people would pay them to enter. I don't remember that part though. I do remember that the chocolate factory was next to the park, and you could take factory tours. We did that at least once.

Hershey's is not so 'pure' anymore. About 10 years ago Hershey's change the recipe in a lot of their chocolate products, instead of using cocoa butter, they replaced with vegetable oil. I can tell the taste is not nearly as good as with the cocoa butter .It was the same when Coca Cola switched from cane sugar to high fructose corn syrup (the taste is not nearly as good). And in recent years a lot of food companies switched from pure cane sugar to artificial sugar (to increase profits), but instead of labeling on the front of the package as 'diet' or 'sugar free', they no longer do this, so I ensure to read the ingredients (I do not like any artificial sugar).

Who here remembers going to Hershey Park Amusement Park? And he's wrong about it being developed in the 1970s...its been there at least since the 1960s. Probably since the 1930s.

No mention of Hersheys getting the contract for chocolate bars for the military during WW2.

I remember growing up and Hershey’s Syrup was in a can, that was how, I loved my chocolate milk. I remember in the mid 70s when, they started putting Hershey’s Syrup in a plastic bottle. I told mom, no, I want the can, I would prefer it over the plastic bottle and, mom brought the can for me till they phased it out. I still today wish, they had the can available, I would definitely be buying it like crazy. I just don’t think things taste so, good in plastic because, it just doesn’t taste the same. In fact once they went to the plastic bottle completely, I was done. I still to this day, rarely bye a Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup, for me that’s just how significant for me the taste difference is, it was much thinner in the can, the syrup in the plastic bottle there’s a big taste difference and, it seems like the syrup is slightly thicker. That’s just how picky, I was about things as kid growing up where, I can taste the difference, aka/I’m like one of those super tasters.

Remember when Hershey's chocolate tasted like real chocolate and not a chalky science experiment? Pepperidge Farm would have remembered if they didn't turn their whole food line into genetically modified experiments.

Very informative. I learned so much. I knew about the theme park, but I didn’t know about the company town for the workers. That’s rare in America, seems kinda communist to me. As a kid, I loved Hershey bars. As an adult, I got to try the finer things in life, like Lindt white chocolate truffles, Chocuer German white chocolate, Meiji Japanese chocolate and the English Cadbury chocolate. I find all of those exquisite. So several months ago, I tried a Hershey bar again, but I hated it. I don’t know whether that’s because I was spoiled by those other brands, or if Hershey changed it’s recipe. I hope it’s only the former. As a kid, I was more easily impressed.

Now I must go eat a Hershey bar.

I’ve literally eaten a ton of Hershey’s chocolate bars, kisses, and Reese’s peanut butter cups throughout my lifetime! I’m surprised I don’t weigh a ton!🤭🍫lol
