Dear fellow knitters: please forgive the shakiness of my hands. My apologies. It is due to one of my medications.
Happy New Year! I am sorry it has been a while since I have made new videos. Last year was a very rough year for me. I was diagnosed in the early part of last year with bilateral avascular necrosis of the hips and spent the better part of the year in a wheelchair and in a lot of pain. I did finally find an orthopedic surgeon who replaced both of my hips. My left hip was replaced in October of last year and my right one in January of this year. I am happy to report that I am able to walk again and am no longer in debilitating pain. Both surgeries were a complete success!
This is part 1 of 10 in my Hexagonal Knitting Series.
I decided to make this video series to aid knitters in hexagonal knitting - specifically for knitting the Persian Dreams blanket. You may find Jenise Hope’s BEAUTIFUL pattern at the following links: Fingering weight: www.ravelry.co.... Worsted weight: www.ravelry.co.... Expansion Pack for original pattern: www.ravelry.co.... Expansion Pack for “flat hexagons: www.ravelry.co.... The latter two patterns are for fingering weight. She does have expansion packs for her worsted weight designs and may be found in the description section for the listed expansion packs above.
I have divided this tutorial series into several videos meant to take you through the process of knitting a tile from beginning all the way to blocking and pinning and finally seaming together using the Kitchener stitch. Below is a listing of all of the videos with their individual links, allowing you to jump around at any time. This video serves as an introduction to hexagonal knitting as well as explanations of the various patterns / versions created by Ms. Hope. A couple of the videos are purely optional or for those who are curious. I believe the main crux of the videos center around the pinhole cast on, the M1T and tips on tension issues key to the success of completing a tile or hexagon.
Skills Required: Knitting, knitting in the round, Fair Isle / stranded knitting.
With regard to the materials needed for this project, please see the instructions in the pattern I have listed above. Optional / recommended materials: 3 circular needles in the following manufacturer, size and lengths: Knitter’s Pride Dreamz, US 2 (2.75mm) in 24-, 40- and 47-inches. A stitch marker. This pattern may also be knitted using double point needles (dpns). The wool I am using in my videos is from Knit Picks’ palette (Navy) and chroma (colorways vary) in fingering weight. Here is a link to their site: www.ravelry.co....

Thanks so much for this. I’ve seen so many projects on ravelry using this technique, but couldn’t find anything free that would help me to copy it. I absolutely love hexagons and I am so grateful someone has this for free

I have only just found your videos - so helpful and informative!!! I have been looking at this pattern for quite a while but never really liked the colours used (a little too 'bright' for my room). But I really love your interpretation of the colours (makes the motifs look almost like stained glass). You've definitely reignited my interest in this pattern.

Thank you so much for such kind words and sentiments! I completely convede that color is a very subjective thing. I will say that in all of the various color interpretations by those who have knitted this, I've loved them all. ❤️ Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! As always, happy knitting! - Earl/Clubkidknitter

Your knitting is spectacular!. I just lucked on your series. I bought the Sunday knits Thistleback pattern and was poking around to see if there was any help on the hexagon. I am using knitpicks palatte also! I had enough left over from a couple of sweaters I had made a few years ago, so I was very happy to use some of my stash. Thank you for sharing your talent.

Absolutely happy to! When I began this project, I couldn't find any help on RU-vid. I used a lot of trial and error, frogging SEVERAL times until I found the better tension and double-magic loop technique. I wanted to share all of this so that others who were interested in hexagonal knitting could find some help. I'm designing a new blanket using octagons and squares. I'm test-knitting an octagon. I think I found the proper round increases and frequencies. I'm working on the border part, too. That one is tricky and I'm working on the actual charts incorporating the proper repeats for three and five sided borders on the outer most octagons. Glad I am a mathematician. Anyway, thank you again for your comments and thank you for watching as well as your support! Happy knitting! 😊 - Clubkidknitter/Earl

Can you knit this with the two circular kneedles, rather than using 3 needles and the looping method you show?
@Clubkidknitter
@Clubkidknitter 3 года назад
Absolutely! In fact, I have since switched to two 47-inch circulars. I put three sides on each. Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment. Happy knitting! - Clubkidknitter / Earl

I'm looking at starting your pattern and I'm looking at what yarn to buy. The Palette yarn doesn't seem to be machine washable. Should I get Chroma in black for a totally machine washable result or have you found that the completed blanket handles washing fine?
@Clubkidknitter
@Clubkidknitter 2 года назад
I haven't washed the Palette, per se, but I've wet blocked it (30 minutes) and haven't has any problems.
@OSM3ON
@OSM3ON 2 года назад
@@Clubkidknitter, thank you! I worry that the problem comes from agitation, not just getting wet. But it's not a huge difference in price, so I might go with the black Chroma to be safe.
@Clubkidknitter
@Clubkidknitter 2 года назад
@@OSM3ON You are correct about the agitation/friction. Water when combined with heat and agitation will cause felting to occur. I always recommend dry cleaning and/or spot-cleaning using a lot of water and then dabbing rather than rubbing (to get out a stain, for example). One nice thing is that the floats on the back or wrongside of the blanket will felt over time through plain usage. The front or right side, not so much. With that said, even if the front does eventually felt after years of usage, the design will still look the same. It's the reason I chose fingering weight. The individual stitches are small enough to resemble an actual Persian rug.

@@Clubkidknitter, I got your pattern and I've been working up a 2-tone test hexagon in worsted weight yarn. I've never done English knitting and I've always done continental with the more traditional tensioning method. I'm getting better as I go. Thanks for the detailed technique videos.

do you happen to know where I could find the hexagonal block patterns with animals in them, like on the photo that FranniesCloud shows in her shop on Etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/873738883/knit-rose-blocks-patterns?ref=shop_hom (third photo from above) these blocks combined in a blanket are absolutely stunning but they are impossible for me to find. she sells only the roses and some other pattern blocks, but not the animals. hope to hear! regards
