And the company has got back to me with the correct pronunciation, thank goodness. They say, "Zsolt, Zsolt’s family and His ancestors forgive you for the pronunciation. If you really want to know how to pronounce it, it is something like Zsolt (Jolt like electricity) Fajt (J is like Y in May for example)." Hope that clears things up and I thank Hexmat for getting in touch.

Hi, I've found your channel two days ago and I have to say that you're doing a great job. I specifically like the way you describe things... It's very pleasing to hear someone explain things in such an easy and understandable manner. Thank you and keep up the great work. PS : I've seen some videos posted twice.

I found that placing an acrylic mat atop of the Technics rubber mat, gives me excellent results. TT Technics SL1200G + Dynavector 20x2.

Hey Paul, took your advice and got a Yellow Bird isolation mat. I'm running it atop a 4.4 lb copper platter placed on top of a 2 lb Acrylic platter. I readjusted the VTA per your suggestion. What a marvelous improvement to soundstage width, depth, microdynamics and lower noise floor. Lots of air now around the vocalists. Hard to believe that this improved sound quality is coming from the same Ortofon LYS MC. Many Thanks Indeed, Happy New Year :)

I have the Yellow Bird and like it a lot. However my subwoofer makes pumping noises as the cartridge tracks the grooves on top of the bumps.

Another excellent video thank you. Can’t afford the hex mat at the moment but maybe the Origin Live may suit my Revolver which has a carbon fibre mat but suffers from static. I am also going to try a budget one off eBay by Oscars which has a layer of cork and rubber stuck to a layer of neoprene for the glass platter on my Systemdek for £13.99

Hi, Nice video! As you probably know, Rega tonearms cannot be raised without an adaptor. Do you think or know if “the yellow bird” 3 mm thickness would fit in a Rega P6 without tonearm adjustments? Thanks for the advice!
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan 4 месяца назад
The Hexmat is too thick for a Rega, I'm afraid. You'll need tonearm shims to use the Bird. And thank you.

Thanks for the review. But this seem to be completely the opposite science to using a record weight or clamps - which pushes the record onto the platter. So which is correct isolation or clamping?
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan 3 года назад
A stabiliser tends to dampen vibrations in the record and bearing through sheer weight. They can lack finesse, though. For some turntables this can be useful, especially if it's producing lots of vibration, the bearing isn't the best, etc. Clamps do a similar job but tend to focus more on the bearing and less on the record. The Origin Live Gravity has next to no weight and doesn't touch the spindle so is neither a clamp or stabiliser but is superior to both so the science is more complex than might first be assumed :)The Gravity's job is to remove vibrations via its inherent parts and build type. The Hexmat also looks to remove vibrations via isolation and it does a terrific job.

I have a JA Michell Record Clamp. Is it a good Idea putting a record disc stabilizer or a clamp is not a good action to put it on with the Hexmat Yellow Bird Turntable Platter Mat? I am worry that the pressure will damage the structure of the Hexmat.
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan 4 года назад
Did you know that you have, in your possession, the very first clamp in existence? Well, nearly. That is, Michell made the first ever clamp. They invented the entire genre. But back to your question! The clamp will apply pressure to the spindle so you should be fine there. The Hexmat is also quite strong. That said, be an idea to see if the increased height of the mat caused any issues and also it would be an idea to see, sonically, if it's required at all. An A-B test would be useful. Hence: mat and clamp together versus mat only and clamp only.

The Funk Firm Achromat is still the Hexmat's direct competitor both in quality and price. Their design philosophy is directly opposite: the Hexmat minimizes contact while the Achromat maximizes contact.

I have a Achromat and just ordered a hex mat and if I have but only one issue with the achromat is the one I ordered arrived warped, so I exchanged it for another and again warped. I went to see if this was an issue and I was told that in the first years it was out they were great but later down the line they started coming warped for some reason. Also don’t like the 2 sided tape thing because I have multiple mats and sometimes just want to change them out on a whim, and having to do the tape thing has me not put it on because of the hassle, but when it is on? It does perform well. Great vid here and I’m subbing ASAP thanks

I have both Achromat and HexMat. I honestly think there is no comparison. The HexMat wipes the floor with the FF Achromat... totally different approach indeed, but the HexMat offers so much more in terms of separation and detail. I have done side by side comparisons with leather, cork, felt, Achromat and heard very little difference....The HexMat is VERY noticeable in the lowering of the noise floor and sound presentation. Combined with the Origin Live Gravity One... well... speechless... the improvement is astounding.

@@dirtharris after a month with my Hexmat I agree. I’m hearing sounds in the music I didn’t hear with the Achromat.

The idea is excellent ... but there is an unsolvable problem upstream. Not all LPs are perfect cymbals ... they have undulations that surely won't rest on the contact points of the mat. So when the needle of the cartridge passes in the point where there is no contact between the vinyl and the mat there will be a bending which will result in vibration perceived by the cartridge.

The lightweight Gravity One and isolating Hexmat look like a good addition to my Rega Planar 8. Your revieuw of the Funk Firm Rage uprgade made me discover the Funk Firm Houdini. That one looks very interesting too. Did you get a chance to check that one?

Hi Paul another cracking video review by your good self sir! I totally get the concept behind this mat & can see it working as described(the hole decoupling thing),unfortunately it`s too higher price for myself to justify buying one but,I may try the Origin Live mat you mentioned. Keep them coming Paul you`re a great watch for geeks like myself. PS.Will I mention that it can`t obviously be used with a record clamp or weight before your "st*lker" does(lol)? Or maybe you did in the video & I missed it,sorry. #hifi4ever
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan 4 года назад
Hi ev, there's a gamut of mats out there (I could have tripled that little list I did mid-vid) but the Origin does offer a great blend of price/performance. And that stalker? Yeaaaa :) Give me the first name initial. Let's see if we're talking about the same one. Interesting that you spotted that. To be honest, I didn't test this mat with a clamp because the turntables I used are not at all suited. It's a good point and one I should have noted in the video. The height increase will make the addition challenging but a stabiliser might still be an option in some cases.

@@TheAudiophileMan Lol I won`t but just from your reply we ARE speaking about the same person,you`re not the 1st victim of this st*lker take it as a complement...for now(arrrrgh). Thanks for the info on mats Paul can I ask you something,to me it seems like turntables & vinyl have had another surge this year,would you agree with me on that or is it wishful thinking on my behalf?

He has form, eh? Odd that I was thinking of ordering a taxi for him the moment you commented (which I've now done), the stars were obviously in alignment there then :) You're kinda right, I think the momentum has been maintained from earlier and then what you're possibly seeing is a growing confidence in the turntable. That it's not a five minute phase. And that it can be a longer term, profitable product. So maybe there's more obvious commitment from the earlier tentative moves.
