This really hit me when Anna said 'the eating disorder will tell you I was prettier then 'cause I was skinnier then'. Recently I've found myself falling back into these bad habits from 3 years ago and I've been saying to people 'oh look how pretty I was when I was skinny'... but I wasn't, I was ill. I guess it's time I 'fess up now and say I'm not ok?

When Anna said that her daughter saved her life that brought such a tear to my eye. Its refreshing to hear someone say that when you have an eating disorder you don't always look ill. As I would starve for weeks and didn't look tiny or thin so nobody ever knew the awful things that I was doing. Not every anorexic person is skinny! .. ♡
@ReyeLynn

So true
@sarasmith6265
@sarasmith6265 6 лет назад
Shoni Doyle I guess that depends what you mean by skinny - anyone can have an eating disorder but anorexia is only diagnosed if you are actually underweight for your height/age
@shonidoyle7858
@shonidoyle7858 6 лет назад
Sara Smith well if that's true it's kinda wrong . So basically you can be starving for months/years but your not classed as anorexic until you get to their decided unhealthy weight. If it is true then it's wrong. It shouldn't just be when you become bones that you are classes as sick.
@sarasmith6265
@sarasmith6265 6 лет назад
Shoni Doyle it’s true that you need to be underweight for anorexia - it’s part of the criteria for diagnosis - but that’s not saying you’re not sick or you don’t have an eating disorder if you’re not underweight - it just wouldn’t be called anorexia - more likely EDNOS or OFSED

I feel like when I was younger I was on the verge of an eating disorder, I think the longest I went without eating was about 4 days. I just remember every summer I had the same goal-"don't eat for the entire summer and then when you go back to school you'll be skinny" every summer that was the goal, most of the time I would just try and starve myself but then I would end up eating later that night. This went on for a really long time. I'm great full that it never went any further than that. There were times I would be sitting over the toilet thinking "just do it, just make yourself throw up" but I never could, I'm thankful for that now. These types of videos make me thankful, and help me not go back to that place

you guys are so brave to talk so honest about this important issue. I never had an eating disorder and my boyfriend always says that I'm probably the most "healthy" mind in terms of eating that he ever saw even tho I dont eat super healthy, if you get what I mean... I only discovered a few years ago that some people in my close surrounding are suffering from eating discorder pretty badly and how common it seems to be, especially for young women. And I just didnt understand it, didnt know how to help. Thank you for being so brave and sharing your stories!

I honestly started watching this video thinking great, some positiv talk about eating disorder, which it was dont get me wrong, but as soon as cat said she has big thighs... my stomach literally dropped and I thought to myself, if her thighs are big then mine are huge..... and right now I'm sitting in my room thinking what I could do differently, eat less work out even more. Its just really sad how this one thing cat said just sat me back to looking at my body in a bad way
@ohblahdah
@ohblahdah 6 лет назад
I don't know you, but I just want to encourage you. Be kind to yourself. No matter what weight or shape you are. Add some love to however you are thinking about your body. Consciously, stop negative thoughts. Try to find a way to appreciate your thighs. They are part of your legs. Your legs get you where you need to go. You can walk! I am older and bigger than I'd like, but I have to sometimes stop and think -- at least I have two legs. Imagine how sad to be paralyzed or missing a leg. For people in that situation, they would love to have working legs no matter the size or shape. You are beautiful just as you are. No comparisons required.
@lilylebowsky5908
@lilylebowsky5908 6 лет назад
Another thing is their last comment: No matter what is said Good or Bad- when you are under that cloud you will Only Pick Up what YOU want to hear. This is a prime example. This video was inspiring in letting people know of their previous struggles. She did mention that in such a context its crazy to think she meant it in a negative way. 'People' (likely to be mr:miss) every say shes 'curvy with thighs doing yoga. That would have meant soo much distress previously but today she is Free and think 'soo what...... its my body'..... think about it. How is this trigguring realistically. If youre under the "cloud" (ana/mia) still I can see how you may take this though but then again everything you hear and see is shapes by your "cloud/deamons/ana-mia" not matter the context. Wish you the fastest recovery
@mermaidsea50
@mermaidsea50 6 лет назад
Cat's thighs obviously aren't big, when she said that it was her eating disorder thoughts thinking that, even though she is recovered, that's the way she will process things that people say to her. Don't focus on your weight, as long as you feel healthy and your mind is healthy that is the most important thing, recognize that these negative thoughts you think about yourself are not true.

I love how relaxed and natural this is. It feels more of a informative chat/conversation rather than an interview. I don't believe I had a ED or at least diagnose able but when Cat's dad said "just stop"resonated with me. It overlaps with other disorder. For me, I have anxiety issues and I rarely really open up about it. Its really because I don't like burdening people and I don't quite know how to explain it. There was one time I told an older cousin about me having anxiety (not in depth, just sometimes my mind makes up these thoughts that aren't necessarily true). This cousin basically just said to just stop having these thoughts. After that I've been quite reserve about who and what to say about anxiety. As they say it's easier said than done. I've never had a diagnosed ED but I have controlled my diet before through calorie control. I guess anxiety (and insecurities) which I couldn't control then spilled to something I could control which was eating. Results was me losing weight but being in the lower range of "'healthy weight" so people thought it was me trying to be healthier(which it was to a degree). I felt prettier and got complements but I realized my issues were still there. I don't control my diet anymore but I still have anxiety problems I am working with. Process is slow but I will get there. Anna story of how Emilia saved her from continuing her ED reminds me of an acquaintance who said her mom getting pregnant with her older brother saved her from going down a path she really didn't want to go down. I wish they made more videos like this. I feel this bouncing off each other/conversation style is more connectable than interviews with to me are more telling than trying to connect (somewhat).

I totally relate. My eating disorder started as a teenager when my dance teacher told me I “looked terrible” and needed to lose weight. I overcame this but a few years later when my parents never let me pursue dance as a career (my life long dream) this triggered it again as it became a form of control since I wasn’t able to control anything else in my life. I’m still battling with disordered eating right now.

Anna is appealing towards eating disordered people, because she's not pathetic and she takes total responsibility for her malady. That's good, nobody who is living through an eating disorder wants to see pathetic helplessness.

One summer i got SO bad, i was obsessed. I had gained the freshmen[25]. That summer after i got a job across town and decided to get a bike and would legit bike 19 miles(1200+cals) 4 days a week, then bike another 45min at night around the neighborhood. That job was a temp warehouse job so it was manual labor, so you already expend alot of calories, i added UGGs and a hoodie on top of that to lose more calories(while then biking home in 90 weather). i was probably burning on avg 1700+ cals a day and eating 0-1000. I once went to the gym with my sister and was trying to run and within 10 minutes was getting dazed and disorientated, i switched to weights.[on a fast] I literally took 4-5 spoonfuls of food, fasted, intermittent fasted etc. I did a fast for 5 and 3 days, i intermittent fasted by not eating until after like 2-4 pm, i did short term extreme diets like 300, 500, to 1000 cals a day. I would say about more than half the summer i ate less than 1000, that was my limit. I took laxatives everyday hoping to not gain weight and i weighed myself like 5x a day. Late summer i then decided to go vegetarian, scared to gain any of the weight back. I ended up losing a total of 39 lbs [in 2.5 months] then with the move in from college, we went to a buffet but the scale still said 2-3 lbs less at the end of that day. Looking back its crazy thinking i was ever like that, i almost feel like someone else took over. Slowly i got back into eating fish and chicken but eating red meat is when i really noticed that i was gaining weight. i only ever gained at most 23 of the 42 lbs back probably bc i had gained the initial 25 so quickly that it wouldn't have stuck anyway.
