I almost understand why Colbourne said he didn’t dance…to him it appears to be an emotional connection. Even when he initially dances with his niece, he seems very connected with her, which is very much needed to heal their relationship. But when it turns to Charlotte….whew…his emotions are in his eyes! They really have a special chemistry! Love the choreography of that piece! Wow! 🔥🔥🔥
In the regency period dancing the dancing couples have to keep the eye contact during the dance through out until they end with the bow and the courtesy.
@@communicating123 That being the rule, it’s interesting to watch Sidney and Charlotte’s first dance together where his eyes were everywhere BUT on Charlotte. At any rate, whether Charlotte & Colbourne followed the rules of period dancing, their chemistry wasn’t the norm!!! He looks as if he’s peering into her soul! ❤️🔥
@@nvbluesky I so; agree with you. Especially after his "I do not dance "!! But when he dance with Charlotte , he really is expressing his deep yearning for her.presence in his life , the light and stability, she brought to the whole household. He seems tobe a man deeply burnt and hurt from all past relationships ,including his childhood relationships it seems..... No wonder he yearns for her sunny, and loving presence in their life. He bonds with her after Luna and Hannibal accept her so spontaneously. And his " Wayward children are transformed by ber. " !!! Seals the deal... So love the whole dialogue during their dance, ending with his beautiful words " We will be bereft to lose you .. . " Extraordinary expressive tone and looks They are both such superb actors. Can't wait for their reunion in season 3 Not just him but Leo, Augusta and Mrs Wheatley. !!!
It’s so lovely to see an actor use his eyes to convey how he admires and loves a woman. Also love all his little smiles he gives her. The actor really does show how he is being transformed and restored by Charlotte. Also great acting from the actress who plays Charlotte conveying her surprise and warmth to this new man in her life after Sydney.
I have watched this more times than is healthy 😂😂 I so hope they don’t mess this up …. Never dreamed I’d love this pairing but it’s passionate, breathtaking and so perfectly Austen💕
Oh my! Wasn't expecting such amazing chemistry when they kiss. Wow. Love, love, love Colbourne's feelings for Charlotte getting the better of him after so many years of loneliness & how they're helping each other heal from loss. A great slow burn.
@@marybeaudin4017 season 3 is already done. Is the editing process now according to writers and actors comments. If is a shame PBS has their program schedule for 2022 already set . I think they should stop further torturing us especially after that horrific cliffhanger ;Ralph and Charlotte 's engagement !!! Air season 3 end of this year...please
Sidney Parker did not deserve to have Charlotte, and Ralph definitely does not deserve to have Charlotte either-and, of course, she does not love him. Alexander Colbourne is clearly the better man-but before he can have Charlotte, he is going to have to stop blaming himself for the outcome of all of the choices that Lucy made of her own free will.
Yes, I agree Cate! Actually, Colbourne put so much passion in that 2nd kiss that Charlotte had to balance herself twice to stand steady!!! Wow! I wasn't expecting that! It makes Sidney's kiss look pretty tame. Don't get me wrong, I loved Theo in season 1.
Love the chemistry between Charlotte & Alexander 💕💕💕Perhaps S.3 will bring Alexander to the reality of his love for Charlotte & stop the self- indulgent punishment preventing him to embrace her & admit his love for her? If the EYES have it, bring on S.3 😘
I love them . I’m already having withdrawals, but this video helps me cope . also a perfect song choice , the lyrics go se well with they’re love story 💞💞💞
Thank you for sharing this beauty! 😍 I spilled my drink watching it just now, I couldn't believe it! I totally ship them already and seeing how their story will progress makes me more excited for the next episodes! 😍💕💯
My guess is that by now most of us know that Alexander Colbourne is the perfect man for Charlotte Heywood. Alexander and Charlotte compliment and complete each other beautifully. Fate has a strange and surprising way of guiding us along on our journey. Who would have guessed that S1 would have ended as it did or that the scriptwriter and casting crew would have been forced to take an entirely different and unfamiliar path-which, in my opinion, has led to a far more interesting and rewarding destination? As fate would have it, Charlotte's romance with Sidney Parker and his betrayal in order to marry the wealthy Eliza Campion (who had done the same thing to him a few years earlier) better prepared Charlotte for the slightly older, more experienced, and wiser Alexander Colbourne who would be attracted to and fall in love with her. Not long into S2, it becomes clear that both Charlotte and Colbourne are surprised and thrown off kilter by their romantic attraction to each other. She and he had both sworn off love and marriage after falling in love and then being betrayed. At the end of S2, we are left wondering why exactly did Colbourne force Charlotte to leave her governess position, and why did Charlotte not allow Colbourne to finish whatever he started to say to her in the Parker home. All we do know is that she and he made a choice, and now they are both unhappy with their lives. We know what Charlotte wants, but what does Colbourne want? He's confusing us. Ah! The look on Alexander Colbourne's face when he sees Charlotte again in S3 makes it quite clear that Colbourne now knows exactly what he wants. The looming questions for S3 are-Can he still get her? If so, how? So, I am definitely looking forward to Season 3. For anyone who hasn't been able to put enough of the pieces together and is still trying to make sense of Charlotte and Colbourne's love story, here is a guide. Like Charlotte Heywood, Alexander Colbourne is a compelling character. Obviously, Colbourne is not pining for his dead wife who married him for his money, and then continued her love affair with Lennox after she married Colbourne. Marrying solely for financial security was the norm, even during the time in which Jane Austen lived. Apparently, Lucy and Lennox were genuinely in love with each other-but, unlike Colbourne, Lennox was not a wealthy man. So, she chose to marry Alexander Colbourne-which explains why Lennox told Charlotte that Colbourne stole Lucy from him. Nevertheless, Colbourne does deeply regret having spoken so harshly to Lucy when he discovered her infidelity and that she was pregnant with Lennox's child. He believes that what he said to Lucy was so damaging that it destroyed her will to live. So, he feels responsible for her death and for Leo not having a mother. Colbourne's compassionate heart and strong conscience have not allowed him to forgive himself-even after all these years. In S2 we see how compassionately Colbourne treats his horse and his dog, and how he tries to shield his daughter and his niece-and now Charlotte-from himself. Colbourne is apparently afraid of ever destroying anyone again, so he puts up barriers between himself and anyone that he loves. Charlotte helped Colbourne to begin tearing down those barriers that separate him from the people that he loves. But now Charlotte is one of those people-so we see Colbourne as he struggles with his internal conflict between his desire to have Charlotte and his desire to protect her from himself. Interestingly, it is not until Colonel Lennox tells Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him that he realizes that she is indeed in love with him, and therefore she needs to be protected from him. Because Charlotte is so unique-she is neither meek nor submissive-Colbourne hadn't noticed the outward signs of her feelings about him. During the time that Jane Austen wrote, men who did not intend to marry often wore a signet ring (engraved with their initials) on the pinky of their left hand-just as Alexander Colbourne does. Colbourne often twists the signet ring that he wears on his left hand and appears to be thinking. My guess is that is yet another reason why he chose to dismiss Charlotte. Colbourne knows that he is in love with Charlotte, and it is obvious that he desires her. The way he kisses her makes that quite clear. After Colonel Lennox told Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him, Colbourne realized that, as her employer she might submit to his desires because he is in a position of authority over her. Now that he knows how he feels about her and how she feels about him, allowing Charlotte to remain his subordinate would have been highly unethical. Since Colbourne-unlike Lennox-is a man of integrity, he could not bring himself to allow her to continue to be his subordinate, and therefore subject to his will. That's why he forces Charlotte to leave, even after she acknowledges that she was a willing participant during their romantic moments. Since Alexander Colbourne is a man of integrity, he knew he had to let Charlotte go-even though he obviously wants her. Colbourne went to the Parkers' home to ask her to return because Augusta begged him to do so, not because he believed that was the right thing to do. (Colbourne told Augusta that she doesn't understand-which, of course, is true. Augusta doesn't know that her uncle is in love with Charlotte and that Charlotte is in love with him.) Colbourne did not object to what Charlotte said because he knew that she made the right decision, even though she made that decision because she believes that she means nothing to him. Of course, that is not true. This is a man who clearly is deeply in love with Charlotte. When Colbourne goes to see Charlotte with the intention of asking her to return, Charlotte also makes the right decision. Sadly, at the end of Season 2, we were left with two people who are deeply in love with each other-and absolutely miserable because of the choice they had to make. The good news is-Season 3 is yet to come and now they both know they are in love and unhappy without the other person.
Will there just be 3 seasons of this show?! :/..hope it'd go on forever! So many things they could do with these two! All kinds of interaction and time together doing things, so we can see their love and friendship grow even more close! With so much dialogue of just sweet words, kindness, respect, love, that they just heal each other (not that they won't) but to just have this sweet relationship play out forever so we can always see these loving lingering looks they give each other! Say it ain't so there'll only be 3 seasons! Could not the writers keep it going indefinitely?! I know I could! 🤩❤
Livie E. - Thanks for editing together these clips in such a beautiful way. It is already helping me cope while we wait until 2023 for some resolution. I can only say that if the writers don't get these two together in Season 3, the world won't be needing to worry about what Covid has in store. The Jane-Ites of the world will revolt!!! Actually, these two are perfect for each other for many reasons, but also because they are both so sensitive. How will Charlotte ever get over being told Mr. Colbourne only has "shame and regret" for kissing her? And how will poor Alexander survive being told "I mistook my feelings for a kind of affection but couldn't feel such tenderness for someone who showed me so little respect." Ouch and Ouch. When Mr. Colbourne thanked her for being so straightforward in expressing her feelings, I flashed back on Mr. Darcy saying something similar when Elizabeth Bennett refused his proposal in about the most insulting way possible. Also, did anyone else recognize that quote about "In my experience, young ladies' opinions, once fixed, are unchangeable" that Alexander says regarding Allison at the garden party was an almost direct quote from Mr. Darcy describing himself in Pride and Prejudice? * Please forgive any misquotes, I'm recounting them all from memory.
@Lisa Tea Ha! Ha! and Ha! You have quite a sense of humor-which is something we Jane-Ites are all going to need if we are going to make it through this long slog to S3 with our wits intact. Thanks for the laughs!
Thank you! This is the best video of its kind! (I’ve seen a lot) You did so good with the editing and song choice. I’ve watched it on repeat. 🙂I’d love to see another!
I really appreciate this video. Well done :) I can see everyone who is asking for spoilers about them are still very traumatized about the Season 1 cliffhanger -- I know I AM! I hope it is NOT as heartbreaking. At least we know there is a Season 3!
I think we're all expecting the worst and are dreading Ep. 6, but hey, since I can watch it on Sunday, April 17 at least I can console myself with Easter chocolates and a glass of wine and tissues!
Thank you for this…I can wait patiently for episode 4, 5, & 6 now I know heybourne has a chance to fly. I just hope the last scene of Alexander riding on the beach isn’t a sad one…
@Judith Adams. I saw a pix of Ben wearing a cornflower blue jacket on a Twitter feed once. Someone from wardrobe department was partially off to one side.
@@marshazeidman4692 I watched a video yesterday where the show runner said that the Sanditon fans are almost like MI6 spies or something like that. They have to be really careful what they say or post. Jack Fox (Edward Denham) posted the title page of his script for episode 1 of S3 on Twitter and some of the fans captured the image and used a hi-res program to sharpen the lettering to read some of the dialogue on that first page that was showing through the title page above. Really, what did they expect when they gave us two traumatic cliff-hangers for S1 and S2? Jane Austen never made us wait years for our happy endings.
Thank you so much. After watching the garden party épisode I become dispondant. We have one last season to go next year before we find out how this story really ends. I am really hoping Charlotte and Alaxanda end up together unless the writers décide otherwise. But what about Ester and Babbington ? I love Ester if Mark Stanley doesn't come back I hope they find another actor to replace him.
Yes - that's episode 4 and many posting here haven't seen that one yet. I'm looking forward to getting access to episode 5 tomorrow night on PBS Passport. While I'm disappointed that Lord Babington is not in the show, especially given what Esther is going through, when I checked Mark Stanley's IMDB I can see why his part was written out! He's been VERY busy! Heart breaking to watch but very fine acting work by Charlotte Spencer (Esther)!
@@amritawhitman8112 you will see it before I do. Please, please tell us in detail as soon as you know whats on the cliffhanger. Livie says it will be torture. The last cliffhanger was brutal. Please prepare us for the heartbreak.
The chemistry between them is sooo WOW!!. And those kisses. Which episode did they kiss in? I watched until episode 4. I do not like Lennox. Hope he does not interfere. Charlotte and Alexander belongs together.
I'm going to have a wild guess for season 3 and say I think Leo Sutter (Stringer) will come back having made his fortune as an architect and try to win Charlottes love.🤷🏻♀️ I really like Charlotte & Alexander's chemistry! I'm hoping they stay together.🤞🏻💝
Oh my heart, I hadn't thought of that. There is a strong possibility of that happening as long as Charlotte stays in Sanditon. I have heard that we (the audience) will not know until the very end who she'll end up with. I love Stringer too so I don't know who I would want her to be with. I would hate for Stringer to have his heart broken twice by Charlotte. I wouldn't be happy about that at all. I wasn't a fan of Sidney. I thought he was a jerk to her for most of season 1 so I hadn't really warmed up to him by the end of the season 1 so I was ok with them not getting together. I know that I'm one of the few who felt that way. I'm liking Alexander so much more than Sidney. This has been a great season so far.
Yes he was a clod to her in the show for most of season 1 and a clod in real life by vexing the team by non return, the complications of having real husband & wife in same series. May well have put a dampener on casting hiring any real life couples in same production. Season 3 may have another Charlotte sibling arrive. Very few adventures of Charlotte & Georgiana despite their longing. Great idea about Stringer, but Charlotte cant afford to be fickle long with Alex as children involved. Toms fickleness over money is exasperating, debtor jail could relieve this angst. Great to have Stringer arrive to save town & meeting Alison or sibling sister first. How does the military debt end? Was Captain Lennox expecting an even bigger payout by LadyD
@@1ofSevensisters Alexander seems like he has a sincere and caring nature. I liked Sidney but you're right he did treat her rudely most of the time. I had the same thought about Theo James and his wife both being on set, probably not the best idea. 🧐😳
I agree, Alexander's bluntness towards Charlotte seems to be coming from a hurting heart and sadness and not from him considering Charlotte to be beneath him which is the way Sidney's abruptness with her come off as (at least to me).The only reason I hated the ending of season 1 was because it was not the way that Jane Austen would have ended one of her novels. I think Alex and Charlotte have better chemistry too but perhaps that is because Charlotte is a little older and less naive. Both she and Alex are guarding their hearts from breaking again. I wasn't unhappy that Theo didn't return and knew that they would need to kill him off so that those who loved him wouldn't spend time hoping for his surprise return to the show. They would be forced to move on along with Charlotte. I haven't heard any rumors of Season 3 but fingers crossed that Col Lennox is not still hanging around. The man has a major creep factor to him. Makes me fear for Charlotte or any woman he sets his sights on. Livie E, thank you for the beautiful, well done video!
I bet he is riding on the beach kicking himself for letting her get away from him. Wonder how long it takes him before he gets on the horse and goes after her?
@@livieE81 So we learned in episode 1 that there is a guy there who wants to marry her and that's probably who we saw looking at her in scene 1 as she ran from the dance to talk to Mary Parker, who just arrived with the bad news about Sydney's death. Since you didn't say she returns to her parent's house, only that she goes back to Willingden, I'm guessing we might see yet another romantic triangle in Season 3!
@@judithadams6599 That was just me taking a wild guess about where they may take this story in Season 3 since they mentioned him in the first episode and they made a point of showing him looking very concerned when she abruptly left the dance in progress to run over to Mary Parker when she appeared there.
@Dillards Shopper People need to stop holding out hope that Sidney will return! I highly recommend watching the recent Q&A hosted by Masterpiece during which someone, I think it was Belinda Campbell of Red Planet Pictures, explained that when Theo James decided not to return to the series, since his character was such a major part of the season and the audience was so attached to him, they needed to make a very firm break with the character to ensure that he wouldn't overshadow and interfere with the new storyline for Charlotte. She said they purposely showed us the casket and burial to let the audience know he will NOT be back. Otherwise the audience would spend the season wondering if Sidney was going to return and they would not get involved with the two new actors. That would be a disaster for the show and terribly unfair to Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Colbourne) and Tom Weston-Jones (Colonel Lennox). Very wise decision! If you go to the Masterpiece PBS You Tube channel you'll see that Q&A Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k1TJm72BSh4.html
@@amritawhitman8112 They made the right decision since Theo James said he would not be back. They needed to help us move on. I like where season 2 is going so far. I like Colburn and love the chemistry between him and Charlotte. I have only watched up to episode 3, episode 4 comes out tomorrow night for us. So I am glad to see they will kiss. I liked the Colonel, but they are starting to show a side of him that is not great. The military owing the town money and him always getting Tom to gamble. Also don’t think he is telling the whole truth about what happened between him and Colburn regarding Colburn’s wife. Since there are only 3 seasons, I hope they will not end this season sad like last season. They could have Charlotte choose Colburn right at the end. Then season 3 could be them planning their wedding and finishing other story lines. Just keeping fingers crossed, since the seasons are so short I would not want season 3 to have so much to tie up.
@@melissapage2387 I agree with all of your points! Here in the US, as a PBS member, they give us access to the next episode a week ahead of the one they air, so I saw episode 4 last week. A lot happens in tomorrow's episode, but not those romantic scenes. They do have some very important scenes tomorrow!
I don't know how about you, but I'm still making theories of what happened to Mr. Colbourne in the past, and I am interested what you all think. So in my head he married Lucy quite young, at least she was young and he was in love. But he is more introverted than it suited her, maybe he wasn't able to show her his love due to his strict upbringing, and she got bored in countryside, so she travelled often to London (maybe after she had Leonora?) to visit her sister and fell in love/lust with Lennox there and he corrupted her. And than she died and something tragic about that happened, which doesn't put Colbourne in a good light (like she was depressed and he was mad after her actions with Lennox or something like that). So what are your thoughts???
I mean, I'm that kind of viewer, who needs to understand the motives behind the actions of characters, and it is often rooted in childhood, or in previous relationship asw. So I really need to see the back up story.
I am trying to understand how they will end episode 3 They can't let Alex to have 2 die from childbirth Will she marry Ralph that will get her gone out of Sanditon THEY are going to have to get rid of Charlotte in some way, also one trailer says Alison will be back what is she going to do leave her new husband?
And also this wouldn't be the first time Lenox upsets Charlotte, I forgot what he said in episode one but Charlotte did get upset after his comment and she left the room.
@@livieE81 Did Charlotte at least put Lenox in his place after him being awful to her or she just left crying? Hopefully not because that doesn't sound like Charlotte to let a man insult her and get away with it. I mean her whole relationship with Sidney was like that. So she would of at least bit (metaphorically) Lenox back or something.
@@livieE81 thanks for the video. Just out of curiosity: was the stairs scene before or after the dance? At the end of episode 4, in the ep.5's preview, she tells him she must know who he is. Was this scene after the stairs scene? I'm trying to " order" the episode and don't let my curiosity kill me. Thanks 😊
This song doesn’t fit. They both have got lovely dark hair. She’ll regret it if she marries Ralph instead of Alexander. Let him finish what he was saying, don’t interrupt.
I don't like Colbourne or pretty much any of the male characters in this show! Are the writers just a pack of angry, broody, mean spirited, disappointed twits? We tried to come with a list of *good men* in the two seasons, and all we got was Young Stringer from season one and Captain Frasier from season two, (and who is obviously picking the wrong sister) !
@@nancyw1427 Why what? Why did I ask those questions? If that is your question, the answer is-out of curiosity, of course. This is a comment section, which means that it is open to an exchange of different ideas, opinions, attitudes, points-of-view, and feelings. However, the original commenter didn't say why she does not "want to see Charlotte with Colburne" or who she thinks would be a better match for Charlotte, so I asked her to elaborate on her point-of-view. If everyone on YT said, "Why?" after someone asked a question, this would have quickly turned in a bizarre platform that no sane person would want to use.
