Look forward to possibly seeing you around Perth. As I have previously advised, if you have a UK car and/or bike licence, then they give you the same over here without any test required. Your UK truck licence is partially recognized in that if you have a UK Class 1 then you don't have to hold a rigid licence for a year before progressing to a HC test (same as Class 1). However, whilst I originally went straight to a HC test (single trailer) back in 2008 from my UK class 1 before progressing to MC (Road Train) a couple of years later, I believe that if you've held your UK Class 1 for at least a year, you can actually go direct to a MC test (Road Train) when you get here. Very easy upgrade in probably just a day (maybe 2 days maximum) and the company who you do your training with, also conduct the final assessment (the test) at the end of the day. No separate examiner to have to deal with.

Awesome, thanks for the tips mate really appreciate it I'm probably gona go straight for my MC soon as I can.

@@truckitprayle Another tip for you, the braking system on the prime mover (tractor unit) is slightly different in Australia as the red airline passes through the cab parking brake. So if you sit there (like I stupidly did the very first time in Australia) with your cab park brake applied waiting for the air to build up on the trailer, then you will still be waiting this time next year. The trailer will only build up air with the airlines connected and the cab park brake released. Hence, you will not get that sudden gush of air when you connect the red airline on Aussie trucks because the cab parking brake is still applied at that point. Also, you will generally not find any trailer brake buttons on Aussie trailers. The brakes are controlled by the airlines being connected and operated from the cab. As soon as you disconnect the airlines, the brakes are applied and there isn't any facility to move the trailer with shunt buttons as they generally don't exist.

And another tip. If you want to keep your UK phone number active in Australia without having to keep topping it up, switch it over to Three network before you leave. Most other UK networks require you to top up at various times, including charging a roaming fee, as well as using the number or they will disconnect the number. Three, on the other hand, does not require any of that to keep your UK number active. I still have my UK Three number active with less than £4 credit since I last topped up in 2019. Its great for any services (like your UK bank) that might require a UK number to text security codes ect and they come through to Australia instantly and for free. You just have to switch off the sim card for a few hours every now and then so that its not showing as being permanently connected to a roaming network. I've got mine in a dual SIM phone and activate it when I need to and believe me, it's far easier than expecting UK companies to contact you on your new Australian number. The main point is that you can keep your UK number permanently active without having to keep topping it up.

Good luck on you Sam!! I’ve driven in 43 out of the 44 countries in Europe and I can honestly say the UK has some of the worst road and worst motorways!🤦‍♂️🤣 Not to mention the 101 other problems with the UK at the moment. Stuff in Australia will cost more; but like you said it’s compensated by the higher wages. The weather is better and it’s a safe place and welcoming place for you kids to grow up! The quality of life should be a lot better for you! I’m hoping to move to Italy in January. We will see what happens😅 All the best mate. Keep us posted every now and then again with a little update 🙏

Just found your channel while looking up moving to other countries as a UK HGV driver. First one that came up you mentioned Canada and wondered why now Oz? Also are you straight into a job that end, is it a career that is sort after by itself. Maybe im too old at 42 but have been passed since i was 21 with continues employment. Any way ill keep a close on on how your move is going. Thanks for the video
@truckitprayle
@truckitprayle 15 дней назад
Hey mate, well we was looking at canada a while ago as we have family there, however covid put it all on hold, so we done a bit of research and desided 12 months of sunshine is better that 9 months of bellow zero temperatures 😅 But that was just one of a few reasons, you can move to Australia up until you're 45 on a DAMA visa (Designated Area Migration Agreement) so you would be rural. Then you can apply for permanent residency after 2 years. I will cover alot of this in my videos so keep an eye out.
