The HGV Trucking Industry Crisis: Driver Shortage and Earnings. 

I managed to get my first opportunity after about a month, coming up for 3 months in the job absolutely love the job itself but was led up the garden path where wages and shift length are concerned, now stuck earning rubbish money on nights and bending rules to near breaking point to stay legal……. Not what I expected when I got into the industry. One piece of advice I’d give - make sure you get the facts and figures in writing before accepting a job offer!

Me around 38500£ a year with attendance bonus included after tax and private pension i got 569 a week. Then if that is good money for hgv class 1 (with parcels but not handballing) sometimes using pumptruck. I dont think so, hours are good as 8 - 6:30 per shift only. Goverment tax is insane. If company payd like dubay the 38500 a year without tax was perfect - trouble here is hmrc easy.

Would recommend using a agency but try get on the highest rates most will take on new passes as long as license is clean for first 6 months of been a new pass biggest issues you will have is not. enough experience, hence why use the agency tell them what kind of trucking u want to do. I did mainly trunking at night shifts depo to depo work easy work not much handball as everything is off loaded with forks, when I first started and lots of practice reversing into bays, once u can do that that makes the job easy. Was on £800 a week pay rates are better at night than in the day class 2 night shift moving medical supplies different depos only thing never saw the day time...and went home end of each shift...

Drove 7.5 ton for 20 years. Got job within a month of passing my Class 1 (C+E), been there 18 months now. On the fridges, afternoon shift 5 on 3 off, do a night out maybe once a month (sometimes 2 or none), overtime paid past 11 hours, salary (with shift allowance for afternoons but no overtime) is £43k. Pay is very dependant on location. I've seen some class 1 jobs with terrible pay and some with great pay in same area. I can understand why new passes will take a low pay to get experience but that lack of experience kind of protects the pay level (somewhat). Most companies can't just hire new passes to keep the wage bill down as they're under the thumb of their insurance company. Many job ads want a minimum of 2 years experience because that's what the insurance company insists on to cover the fleet.

I’ve been class one for 28 years I started taking home my first job £500 every week £32000 per year diesel prices don’t effect your wages as transport companys put a surcharge on there deliveries it’s who know and how hard you’re going to work I don’t unload or load now and clear £1000 per week minimum every week. There not danger money it’s called ADR AND TANKER WORK. There’s not a shortage of drivers there a lot off work out there

I've just had a look on Indeed with a 20 mile radius of Manchester. Plenty of £16-20 an hour jobs on there. There's some shit wages jobs too, mind. I'm looking at you Eddie Stobart. There's even one looking for drivers to relocate to New Zealand.

The hours can be crap ,who wants to do 60 hours a week, driver facilities are not what they should be .

Bud just wondering how would anyone get cardio in as a tramper? I know you are not a tramper, but what would you do if you was?

Would agency take newly pass drivers? Can someone recommend some agencies around Manchester.

Shortage of Drivers :))))))) 😂 if anything we are to many and not organised. Actually is a shortage of companies wich pay decent , i dont her about a good company to have a problem not finding drivers.... That's why we earn / hours less than a cleaning lady . Its true we earn good mony but just because we work long hours.... and with wath sacrifice. No social life and hard to build a family in this field....

Good video mate. People offer good hourly wages online but they are crafty and plan you 8-10hours a day that's no good if your wanting to earn money. I cleared 52k last year tramping all year round which I don't think is not a bad wage at all. Don't get me wrong you can earn more money, but what are you going to be doing for that extra couple K a year?
