When removing keycaps from a keyboard with Hi-Tek (also known as Space Invader) switches, I found that using a wire puller is potentially dangerous. The wires get easily catch the bottom of the stem and pull the whole stem out. This can cause the spring to get lost or the contacts to get damaged. Instead, I found using a plastic clip style puller works better. It grabs just the keycap from the sides so it doesn't pull on the stem. In addition, I also pull to the side instead of straight up. The keycaps hold on pretty tight so pulling up can still pull the stem out. Tipping it to the side helps to unlatch just the one side so the keycap can come off cleanly.
