Nothing beats those old grills nice work
@rogertaylor712
@rogertaylor712 5 лет назад
I have one of these and mine has a small round grill between the pot and the cone. So the fire is built in the top inverted cone and the ash drops through into the pot. Also allows air to come up from below. Cool restoration and nice cooking 👍
@brash8270
@brash8270 2 года назад
I also have this exact same grill. Having used it a couple of times, I noticed it wasn't really getting hot enough around the entire grille. Your comment is the only info I've gotten so far that may explain this (mine doesn't have the separatation between pot and cone that you mention). Will try again today using some improvised separation.

Grandfather quit making rivets when he could go down to the hardware and buy them. The rivets he used were to replace blades on a sickle bar mowers but were good for other uses. No heating required. Nice restoration Mate. Steak looked awesome. Now I'm hungry. :)

That certainly is a nice grill! You're right, you don't see them in cast iron anymore. Good choice to season the outside like you did. A lot of people would have used stove black. Good job!!

I used to have the same BBQ until a few years ago... they are absolutely brilliant. Can't beat cast iron cooking! I sincerely appreciate the effort you've gone to to restore it, but would like to see what it looks like after being used a few times. I can't imagine oiling it every use would help to keep it in such an immaculate state you've managed to get it to... but would love to be proven wrong. :)

Why didn't you paint it? Something to protect it. I know you probably seasoned it but have you ever seen a well seasoned cast iron pan left out in the rain? It completely rusts no matter how good the seasoning is. I just wonder what the the bbq will look like after a year outside...

Beautifully done! I collect these old Hibachis and the old "Sportsman" cast iron grills made by Birmingham Stove and Oven..... mine are all "all cast iron". There is another one called a "Caribe", (spelling is close), they are very well made and a pleasure to sit around and cook on. A good, sound Hibachi is a great thing to cook on.....

Nice work. Of course, the bbq will quickly turn back to rust with use, given the metal of its construction and the small remnants of corrosion that are impossible to remove without chemical treatment. I was waiting to see whether you would go the extra mile and bake a ceramic coating onto the metal.

Cool restoration. You're already done, so for the next "heat" restoration you do, I suggest using brass hardware. It may not be original, but it's better, because the brass will take the heat, and last forever. The gold looks really cool against the black, too.
