In this video I will try to restore a bbq smoker.The restoration process took about three weeks.I removed some of the surface rust with a sandblaster and then finished it with rust remover.I painted the smoker with black paint that can withstand higher temperatures.After I was done I decided to try and smoke some meat.I was able to find a 5 pound piece of brisket with the bone .It was smoked for about 5 hours at 275 F and then I finished it in an oven.It was my first time smoking meat and I was happy with the result at the end.
I hope you enjoy today's video.Let me know in the comments section what to restore next?

If you want a challenge, try assembling one of these grills ru-vid.comUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I am a technician by trade and the technical instructions were easy to follow. No reading, just pictures and diagrams. You assemble everything in 5 steps from the bottom up. Step #1 - Assemble 4 Legs and Wheels; Step #2 - Add the Front Cover and Cross Bars to support the frame; Step #3- Assemble the Burner to the Lower Grill Housing and install the knobs; Step #4 - Install the Side Burner and side shelf; and Finally Step #5 - Install the Upper Char- Broil Lid, Cooking Racks, 3 Burner Railings and Lid Handle. That's It and you're done in about 2 hours and 40 minutes. You have the option to pay for assembly after making the purchase - I would strongly suggest that you take it if you don't want to be bothered with this challenge. The only tool I used was a Phillips head screwdriver and a standard pair of pliers. The grill cost a little more because of the side burner, but this is what makes the grill so versatile and popular among backyard grillers. Have fun and enjoy!

Love it!! I had a neighbor put one of these on the curb and I grabbed it right away. Similar restoration but I don’t paint the inside. Just season it with oil and a couple rounds of charcoal and good to go!
@moonblink

---Same, man. My neighbor just put out an old fancy smoker/grill on the curb, so I brought it home today. I plan on restoring it. It looks like one of the heavy duty expensive ones from back in the day. **Now I'm watching videos for restoring ideas. :)
@HvV8446
@HvV8446 Год назад
@@moonblink well, as many others have said, don’t paint the inside. At least not with normal spraypaint. Use at least high temp paint for the outside. And depending on the stuff you may be able to paint the inside too, but only if the paint instructions specifically mention that it can be used for that. Otherwise just season with oil. And do a few empty burns. Just to get rid of all the toxic fumes. Don’t throw meat on a freshly painted smoker. Also applies if you buy one new
@WesBland
@WesBland Год назад
Don't pa int the inside if you can avoid it. I would put on a heavy coat of vegetable oil and then run it with some charcoal. Keeping it coated with Veg. oil will keep it from rusting on the inside, as long as you remember to remove the ash. Leaving the ash inside a smoker / grill will always help it to rust on the inside faster.
@badeadrian
@badeadrian Год назад
@@WesBland I need to to fix my barbecue as well...I use to keep the ashes inside...has started to rust...I used to put water on the charcoal after I finished the barbecue... now I've learned my lesson 😃

Well its pur vinegar. But this works only like a miracle if the rust was just created shortly beforehand with sufuric acid (you can even see the stains running down the hood, which would not look like it if it was real rust, also no pitting). Too bad many restauration channels use this "trick" to make the restauration look even more amazing. It would have been a nice restauration even without the artificially added rust. Why not keep it real?

I have a grill just like that that I have used for 6 years and there are holes rusted in the bottom of the grill and fire box. No way this grill was ever used regularly. Also mine has been outside with no cover the whole time and there was no surface rust on in. So I think this was rusted on purpose for the video, which is why it came off so easily.

These channels kill me. Everything is an attempt at visual and presentational deception, with the “plausible deniability” of…, “I’m not trying to deceive anyone. What you see is what you get. I actually restored this object.” They do this knowing full well that ignorant people watching (the vast majority of the viewership) will be given to think that the item in question is much older and corroded than it really is. Another segment of the viewership is more motivated by the “relaxation” aspect of watching these videos because they have anxiety issues or stress. Nonetheless…., the entire presentation is a LIE.
