You know, I don't like this movie. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way, and this scene encapsulates why. It's not the fact that kanade is being manipulative. If she's written as a prick then she is and that's fine, the series can live with that. The problem for me is the build up to this scene. We knew there was a conflict brewing for mirei but what the movie failed to do that she show does brilliantly is clearly establish the conflict in writing and animation. Using mizore and nozomi as an example, it was made very clear that mizore and nozomi had history before kumiko met both of them. The scene that sticks out the most is the scene when mizore starts to lose it when nozomi plays. You learn a little later that she feels this way because of how she feels about nozomi after nozomi left the band. Mirei never had a moment like this when she felt unrecognized a good player. With the pacing of the movie, it actually did the opposite and painted her as a lazy band player and made the audience think that she was going to have a conflict of everyone taking things too seriously and leaving. That's my overall problem with the movie. The pacing just leads to not enough moments where characters can express their problems in every form.
