I loved the episode when I first watched. Now, after rewatching today, I am spellbound by this scene, moved to a loss of words. I love these two so much.
2:30 "Don't your feet hurt?" asks kamiko "They hurt" Reina answers "but I don't hate pain" "what?...thats kind of hot" kamiko admits "freak" reina turns away kamiko smiles and giggles. then later 3:38 "but I've always been drawn to that side of you. it's like you put on a kind good-girl face, but inside you're actually really distant. "it makes me want to peel that good-girl skin off of you."
But apparently to KyoAni its NOT a Relationship its Friendship... if my friend ever said this to me id think their either taking drugs or crushing on me.. this is seriously a borderline first crush type thing and KyoAni is baiting it so hard to make it seem like no no its actually Friendship how the fuck is this FRIENDSHIP!!! they are oozing more pheromones than any Yuri anime iv seen
@@chrissy93x IKR IM SO MADDDDD all this years the animators make it seem like they could be potentially lovers but it's not like that in the manga and now the movie it's coming.
It's one of the most gorgeous love scenes in all of cinema and there's not even one kiss. You just ache for the two of them, it's so masterfully executed.
+Ushionai According to the official site these two are "attracted to each other". For me that's enough to patiently wait for the announcement of the second season.
@@suyunana they dont get together. there is a season 3 in production but i highly doubt they get together. Kyoto animations is known for their shows being filled with yuri bait
Truna AQW Honestly... yeah. I mean not that I don't love other yuri like Strawberry Panic or the more pandering stuff like Sakura Trick but we don't ever have yuri that's kind of... well normal. At least it strives to be a good show overall and tell a rather natural romance. Like even though it's not yuri Hibike Euphonium is what yuri should be. Then you could have a good show where you could recommend it to friends or other anime fans and they could say "yeah it's a good show".
The Flying Lion You really need to read: Citrus Girl Friends Sasameki Koto Lily Love The Secret Recipe Kimi Koi Limit The Princess's Mirror Renai Manga Prism Asagao to Kase-san Hoshikawa Ginza Yonchoume And many more if you actually think there isn't much quality Yuri. Because these manga are in a whole other level.
Omg Sasameki Koto, Girlfriends, and Citrus I love too much. I'm hunting down volumes because I just love how romance and overall how characters are written. Candy Boy I like too it's lighter sorta like Citrus in a theme but clearly different. But thanks for this list for yuri for me to check out :) it's just finding yuri to watch or read that isn't the stuff that's otaku pandering can be hard. But the gems do stand out. Citrus, Strawberry Panic, Candy Boy, Girlfriends, Sasameki Koto, I love them all and I hold dear to me. It's romances and characters I just adore so much.
"I put on my uniform, go to school, go to band, and come home. Sometimes, i just want to throw everything away and board a train and travel"...I FEEL SO RELATED. I mean, i watched this 5 years ago, now i'm on my 20's and now i totally AGREE.
Reina's line about wanting to reveal Kumiko's personality and that being a love confession is something that really resonates with me. I spent a lot of my younger years trying to appeal to as many people as possible and be "nice" to everyone. Now, I've let go of a lot of that behavior, and it makes me happy to be both liked and disliked for who I genuinely am. I hope that I can create the sort of relationship these two have where they can share their true selves with one another.
@@LTTU123 Granted it's just circumstantial as at this point I've only watched two episodes. However I think it's probably going to end up super gay. However to form an unbiased opinion, I shall take my Yuri goggles off. Who knows? Kumiko might be bi but I'll see the chemistry between both and judge them. I've actually heard that both of them had guy crushes but...that just means they're both bi. Regardless, I shall judge the chemistry.
it's awful how kyoani just dropped their connection later on in the anime just to be more faithful to the novel.... i know Kumiko and Tsukamoto got together in the novel, but i always felt it was way out of place in the anime because kyoani didn't cater to it at all. But now they seem to have made an 180 with the movies and head for the route anyway while Reina just got completely forgotten it's bs
Christ I love them both so much. It’s very rare to find a ship where both the characters are both 10/10 and I don’t know how I love more. I hope to find my own Reina one day (; - ;; )
The first time I saw this scene I caught myself making the same face that Kumiko was making (6:02). The way the scene direction makes you feel like you are gazing at a shooting star is just incredible.
When she comments that's kind of hot OMG that got me!!! And then reina went to trace her finger down on her upper lip that got me really bad I started yelling at my screen "FUCKING KISS!!!! FUCKING KISS AND MAKE YOUR FANS PROUD!!!!! DAMMIT!!!" -throws phone across the room- all the Yuri fans be glowing with doujinshis and art already
Hannah Bridges Actually in this context "hentai" does mean freak or weirdo, which is also closer to hentai's literal meaning. Just in some cases people also use it to call perverts. For a more literal translation for our word "pervert" in English would probably be "sukebe" in Japanese
From what I've seen, to many Japanese people, this comes off much the same way, and I am sure it's intended queerbait. Anyone who tries to argue that this interaction doesn't come off as a yuri love confession in Japan, because of cultural differences, are idiots that are for whatever reason, offended by people shipping the two.
@Chomusuke -kun Yep, pretty much. I don't understand why people have a hard time reconciling elements that are important for plot/character vs. something that's exaggerated for fanservice. Kuroko no Basket is never going to turn into a BL story, but the authors intensity the friendship with a lot of bromance because they know that part of the allure is the gay theme. Speaking of fanservice, Harukana Receive might have a solid plotline and characters (I don't know; I haven't watched it), but can you really deny that a major selling point are the bountiful bikini girls? The same thing goes for Bakemonogatari. These elements can exist in an anime without sacrificing the point of the plot or the actual relationship of the characters.
