Hidden $$$$? Salvaging a TRASHED Danish teak table

This thing had mildew all over it, a TON of scratches and dings, water rings from decades of glasses (and no coasters), and was nearly destroyed from a THICK gross layer of built up furniture waxes and polishes. Don’t use consumer spray polishes on your furniture! It’s a nightmare down the road when refinishing.
This is a fairly typical but designer Danish teak dining table, a mix of solid wood and veneer, by CJ Rosengaarden. In excellent condition, this piece could be worth several hundred to a thousand Canadian dollars in my specific area to the right buyer. The veneers on these are pretty thin, so I only have so much room to work with. Is it perfect now? Absolutely not. But despite the flaws that remain, I think this table has a long life still ahead of it.

Lovely as always. ❤ I adore teak. I think it is my favorite wood. Ever seen teak trees? I’ve visited Costa Rica a number of times and they have many teak farms. They are amazing when they flower. Little pods that eventually burst open with fuzzy cotton-like seeds. From a distance, while in full bloom, the trees appear to be inside some sort of haze. Enchanting.

OMG, just in time! My husband picked out a nightstand for $20 at the Salvation Army for me to fix up for him. I thought it was a discount furniture store, manufactured material piece. Once we got it home I saw it was part of an Arne Wahl Iversen teak bedroom set for the Danish furniture makers, Vinde Mobelfabrik (she says like she knows what she's talking about) . Not worth very big bucks, but surely not deserving of all the glue and spray paint and crap I planned to do to it. It is no where near in as bad of shape as this, which is good because I am NOT anywhere near what anyone would call a refurbisher., but I'm now watching this for advice on how I should treat the wood to make it feel better.

This is a beautiful table...now! To see what you started with and what you brought it back to is heartwarming. It's actually moving to know that, without all of the time, energy, work, and love you put into it, the piece would probably have ended up in a landfill. I love that you seal the undersides of pieces. Wood is a living material and I think it does matter that it is sealed and cared for. It definitely is a mark of the quality of your work and the care you put into it.

Unbelievable results Angie!!! You have me officially hooked. I just found out that the 5 piece bedroom set we have at our cottage is Andrew Malcolm furniture. Inherited it from a great aunt a long time ago. I've sanded a drawer from one of the nightstands. Beautiful solid wood drawer front with dovetails and I think mahogany inside. I was stupid and painted most of the pieces over 25 years ago. I got my work cut out for me. I hope I can do you proud. T

You transformed something headed for the trash into a glorious treasure. It's absolutely beautiful! And I also agree that it's few imperfections are just part of buying/owning something that isn't brand new. You didn't say whether you planned to sell or keep this table, but if you plan to sell, I think it will sell quickly. Those imperfections won't even be noticed if you don't point them out. That table will be a lovely addition to any home.

Beautiful work as always! I agree with you about sprucing up the underside of the table. When I used to sew clothing the inside of a garment had to be finished off to look neat and tidy. I always felt it was a more professional way of doing things. Don’t sweat the little imperfections. They are part of the history of a piece of furniture. A great save. Great job ! I find your videos so inspiring . I have a old desk that i want to redo but have been afraid to mess it even more. After watching your videos I always get that little boost of confidence to start working on the project. Thanks for posting 🙂.

Angie, glad to see a dining table with leaves, and that you noted how they can vary in color due to varied exposure to light. I’m the one that reached out to you to ask about this. I used “up in smoke” on my table, and added a few more applications of the pigment mixture to color match. I also care about the underside 😂. Thank you!!!!
