Hidden Features of the BMW e46 part 2

My 2001 e46 is far more advanced than my 2013 Ford Focus.

Speaking of the key FOB, it doesn’t have traditional replaceable batteries, but actually recharges in the ignition.

Other features include... No seat belt - NO FING BING Door Open - NO FING BING and etc...love the NO FING BING

To get to the test functions without clearing the trip, hold the reset button in while you're turning the key on. This will immediately bring up the test menu and keep your trip mileage intact. Also, as someone already said, the cluster test is always available, there's no need to unlock the other tests (3-18) just to do that.

Very cool! I have the same car and had no idea it has these features. The battery kept going dead, and the dealer said the car wasn't going into "sleep mode." They said the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. It's fixed now and runs great.

Drop the windows and open the sunroof - then hold the recirculation button (tunnel mode) - should close the electric windows and sunroof, then press and hold the recirculation button and they should open back to their previous position (eg half or full open) - does that on all German cars, similar to the dropping the windows with the key fob.

The thing about the key changing the encryption, that's how literally every remote key works. Every single one of them since they started using them, it's not just bmw.

Loved the e46 secrets...including the special 'any Pelagic.......devices' feature...maybe like 'ocean...something...maybe... lamprey attached to 12v port' and running my battery down, so clever for BMW to save me from the electric lamprey. I was like...wow, is that guy a doctor...making a Latin reference? But, I think you must have meant ... parasitic devices... lol

I used the OBD to call a mechanic on his shit when he installed a defective thermostat in my car. Highly recommend E46 owners understand these functions so they don't get taken advantage of

Another feature of the e-46: after turning the engine off (even with the key off the ignition altogether), the power windows (any of them) work for about 15 minutes later. This is true as long as you do not open the driver's side door.

My e36 from 1992 has the window thing where it stops if it hits something. More annoying than helpful tho since it only works on my auto driver window, and sometimes it will think it hit something and just randomly go down

The mk4 jetta also had the pinch protection and the accesory with the key off

Do you have a video on how to program the remote. My remote locks the car but doesn't unlock it when I press to unlock it the driver seat moves position. If not can you do one please.

Idk about the sedan or coupe, but the E46 Vert with the top disabled from the trunk you can use the key in the door & hold it in the unlock position & it will roll the windows down, hold it in the lock position and it will close the windows, and with the top enabled from the trunk the same action will actually drop or raise the convertible top, neat'o right 😏

Not sure if the US cars do this but in the UK if you lock the glove box if you lock and unlock the doors the boot (Trunk) won't open with the switch, back there on the lid

Can we see temperature of L, or a/f ratio?

i wonder if the flashlight charger in the glove box also turn off i never knew about the radio without the key i am going to have to try that one , what i really want to know is about the ODB2 port i have an ELM module for torque but i always unplug it because i am afraid it will kill my battery i wonder if the car will also kill power to the ODB 2 port too so do not have to keep taking the ELM module out , i was trying to figure out a way to switch the ELM on and off with the ignition but now i may not have to

I have an 05 325ci Convertible. I also have the Carly OBD adapter with full version softwrae on my phone. Do you have any idea about how you code the car to chirp when locking and unlocking?

Actually if you are at 2.0 and only thing is to click and do the test but to not turn off the ignition and do all the stuff again just hold it and it will go back to 2 and you continue to other tests, by just holding it for a sec you go backward :-)

Can you do a guide on how to reconect the keys to the car?

I wish I saw people post videos of how to properly use all these functions in the hidden menus instead of just how to access them there's a lot behind all those menus and there's a reason they are hidden from the everyday person LOL

I agree older models really are space age for when they were built. I refuse to get a new car because my 2000 hatchback has so many cool features even new cars just don’t. Of course, I’ve keep my car garage-kept for 22 years so it’s stayed in amazing shape.

hi so my 330i 2002 convertible rear windshield is smashed, can it be the reason the car wont start? how can i know more about the rear windscreen and security system?

Side note: The pinch protection is great. Butttt lets just say you have BMX handlebars out the window and you roll up the window, it’ll probably break the window regulator. Don’t ask how I know

ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL left on, even if you forget to shut off the headlights (ONLY PARKING LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED), it will automatically shut itself off after 15 minutes. The factory setting is 15 mins, not 20 mins. Although, there are many features that one can customize if one should chose to do so. For example, there is a feature in all BMWs 2000 and on, it is called, "Walk Away" after one shuts off the motor, pull back on the "High Beams" the high beams will illuminate for one minute, giving you light to illuminate your walking path as to prevent you from walking in the dark. One can change that one minute setting to go off at 30 seconds, 2 minutes. Also, interior lights can be changed so they stay on for longer periods of time. There are many factory presets that can be changed. There are tons of scan tools out on the market that plugs right into the OBD2 port of the car that can change all of those settings. Another example, BMW 2001 and newer, can remember 10 master keys (key fobs) and each person having a key fob to one particular BMW can have his or her own persettings for that one car, so as long as that one person has their own key fob, they can have their own set of preset radiostations programed, climate control set, rear view mirrors, steering wheel position, seat position, seat temp settings. Like I said, the car can have 10 masters. If one fob should get lost, the owener can plug a scanner into the OBD2 and delete that lost fob to make room for another or just leave that space blank.

Another hidden thing I found on my car. 2006 e46 M3 when I’m driving fast and my window is down the music gets louder so I can hear it. I think that’s cool. And when I stop at a light it goes back down to normal volume

I have a 03 525i and once I turned the headlights switch all the way off to the 12o'clock position and the lights stayed on! I just turned it back on then off. Only had the issue once though.

Are u sure about 12V sockets being turned off after some time? Because my brother had a 330d and the 12V charger's display was still on even after the car was turned off and locked for a couple of hours. We tried all 3 sockets located in the car and they seemed to all be delivering power constantly. We didn't try to leave it as such until the battery died completely, although it would probably take forever for a small cheap screen to drain it by itself.

about the radio turning on without the key, it also happens in Fiat's.

Where can I get interior lights like that?

My 2003 doesn't have those ridges on the mirror. It also whistles at about 78 mph.

You missed the fact you can use the key for roll up or down the windows by inserting the key in the door

The bonus feature that you told, I have a bluetooth device there which the car doesn't shut off, left it for over a week. But luckily my battery didn't drain.

One thing I learnt today; if you slide the mirror control switch, the passenger side mirror drops to show the kerb when you put the car into reverse... how cool

at 1:19 on the screen where the car is letting you know a door is open. i have never seen the front and back light indicators come on. does anyone know how to turn them on while driving or parked?

You forgot the follow me home lights. Pull the turn signal stalk and the blink lights come on for a predetermined amount of time. the time on can be coded with Carly. I think all BMW's do this.

One more thing about E46 lot of ppl don't know, it has 5 tires instead of 4

At 4:15 you actually broke little piece off of the glass by that pencil, the feature is there mainly for your safety and lets say if you leave your neck in the window, you will be save and window too, but the hard pencil shradded the corner od glass
