Those hidden features are cool. I did a brief search for the hidden features on the PL-380 but no luck. Things sure have come along way since my DX 440 from back in the 90's. Thanks for another great video. I look forward to you content. Now it's time to figure out how to support your channel financially.

I just picked up a lightly used 880 for $75, will be here in a few days. I wasn't really considering this radio but after your review I decided to give it a try. Not that I need another radio, I have too many already but when the radio bug bites... Thanks for the great vids.

I was thinking of getting a tecsun pl-880. I was wondering if it's frequencies on all bands are offset by 2 or 3 kHz like the tecsun pl-660. If so how do I calibrate the radio bands?

It'll be interesting to see what kind of distance you can get at mid day with the basic internal ferrite rod aerial and what extra stations the loop will pull in. That for me would be a key test of how good a radio and antenna system is.

I'm going to do some daytime AM tuning if possible. I've been disabled for two years and my sleep pattern is all messed up.

KBGG 1700 The Champ in Des Moines which is less than a mile from my house and provides lots of bleed over across all the band for me

Thanks for the mention. The Spanish 640 is probably WMFN Peotone, IL. I heard country on 730. Merrill, WI's WJMT puts out a pretty good signal. Inn 100% sure 990 was CBW from Winnipeg, MB.

I used to listen to WLS in the barracks USAF Wichita Falls TX. on a small "transistor radio" back in 1972. Flight distance: 808 miles. I didn't notice any "antenna rattle" on your radio. My PL-880 is excellent also. I have a 130 foot long wire antenna that I just put up. I've looked at doing the feature that puts LW & MW on the external antenna jack. Way too much work, that might not even function, based on some things that I have read about it. Thanks

Used to scan for baseball games in Iowa and followed my Dodgers on a. Lot of stations in St Louis Cindy Philly Pittsburgh and Houston via KAOI San Antonio lot of. Fun after sunset

Nothing better than BASEBALL on the radio.I have the external loop and have hung a long wire for SWL .. Lots to learn and play with. I'm in Jersey. Have you heard anything from NYC where you are? 660 - Yankees, 880- Mets?

Mine takes 5 hours, 22 minutes to fully charge from low battery. Using the built-in charger.

Yes, I'll be keeping it, rattling antenna and all. I'll call Kaito and ask if they have replacement antennas and give one a try.

or, I just take the antenna off :) I'm the medium wave junkie after all...and I always have the plug in for the SW. If I ever become mobile again I will put it back on and do some outdoors work with it.

1700 on AM is a very strong station out of San Diego I get it well when I'm in Colorado don't know if you might have been getting that signal. Sounds like you are developing an appreciation for the 880 even at its lofty price.

It is really nice to slow tune with that soft muting gone. It's buttery smooth :) The audio is a bit much, but people like that...I'm ok with softer sounding radios. I will be keeping the 880.

I heard that single sideband was pretty dodgy as well as the AGC if your into listening on the amateur bands vs the pl 660....otherwise great radio.And also do you know if the corrected this? If this is unclear I'll send you a link.

There are examples on the internet about AM Synchronous Detection. Most use SSB as a way to clarify a faint signal next to a stronger one. The AM Sync does a better job of holding onto a fading signal as well.

The medium wave band utilizes the internal ferrite bar antenna. The whip is used for SW and FM. You will find this out when you receive yours.

The PL-880 is a beast on all bands but shockingly the 660 seems even better for MW (although not quite as good on SW.) Overall I think the PL-880 has the best price to performance ratio of any currently available radio. (With the drop in price the Eton Grundig Edition Satellit would be the best but I have to disqualify it as it is now discontinued. Get one while they’re available at the discounted price if you can!)

I have a 2 part question for you; for the difference in price versus extra features-performance in your opinion would the 880 be the best buy or the 660? also to be sure I understand correctly if I buy from the Amazon link on your site you do get something from it is this right? If so I can do that, I get to buy one toy with our tax refund if the government starts working again.

The 880 is a good choice if you do not need the air band. I'm debating buying another myself. I sold my first one because it was a rattle monster. The speaker audio is so strong even at lower levels my antenna would vibrate causing an annoying buzz and the buttons. Could have had a bad unit. The SW is fantastic and that is why I want another. I don't need the air band I have an old scanner that covers it and living in the crossover area of the traffic from KCI, Saint Louis I get plenty of opportunities for air comms. I got my G5 to replace my old dx390 and then I watched your video on the 880 and 660...the radio bug bites again!😊

Locking the FIne Tuning Knob is done by pressing MEMORY 75 MEMORY. DO NOT press this key combination. This happens on my radio for some reason, and it was very frustrating for me because I could not easily tune around on SSB or fine tune into a SW signal as easily until this was resolved. I found this through trial and error.

I have a basic sheet I use. Most strong stations are 100kW towers, unless I mention that it has a lower power. The list is always being added to. Mainly an evening list. My daytime list doesn't have all the station power outputs listed, which I hope to fill in one day.

I have started my own list of MW AM channels using the PL-880 some channels you have to use SSB to pull the stronger channel out

Nice. I've been recently using my CCRadio SW to find MW stations. It responds very well to my Tecsun AN200 Passive loop, that paired with the built in Twin Coil Ferrite I'm finding some pretty weak stations.

One of the best radios for those who like to DX the FM band. The MW performance is pretty good, but nothing spectacular. The sound from that Mylar speaker is so nice, albeit a little on the bass heavy side.
