Have been obsessed with this watch since I first discovered it. Didn't even consider it a "hidden gem" cuz I assumed everyone saw the beauty in it that I did! So thrilled to see you cover it Mark!
As always, I learned something. As always, I am now lusting after a watch. As always, I suspect this one may be a wee little bit above my budget. I will just head on over to C&C and take a look. Thanks for another great video!
I think you should look into the Voutilainen x Leijona collaboration and specifically the Motiers Classic Limited Edition for a hidden gem. I recently managed to get one (there is a short video on my channel), and I'm still quite astonished by the level of finishing and generally the amount of value you are getting for a relatively low price...
Like most Americans, I can't properly pronounce A. Lange & Söhne but Jenni Elle says it perfectly. I vote that we dub in her voice on every video where it's said. Great watch though. Interesting history.
Mark, I enjoy your videos, but I am not sure if you can call the Odysseus a hidden gem when it is sold out everywhere in the world. A. Lange has sold everyone it makes. Crown & Caliber doesn't even have one Odysseus in stock. Can I order one from C&C?
I would argue it is not hyped, just very limited production that is causing the price jump, if you start naming hyped watches, even just steel sports watches, I doubt this makes your top 10. Ask someone to name Lange models and I bet the Lange 1, Zeitwork, Datograph, and Saxonia come up first. To me this is the watch everyone should be talking about and not the Nautilus or Royal Oak. Just one mans opinion -Mark
Is it a great watch that deserved the air time you gave it? Of course! Is it a "hidden gem" - absolutely not as anyone who has enquired about buying one can attest. Think, given the time you spent on the history of the brand, you also should have mentioned Lange is now part of the Richemont group rather than suggesting the Odysseus is some beacon of independent watch making. Though overall, love your enthusiasm for the piece.
How can you call this hidden gem? I assume you guys have seen the price it's going for over retail in the used and grey market, plus wait-list/requirements from official boutique. Kind of misleading to call this a hidden gem period.
Well the line is that they are definitely less known than Vacheron, AP and PP. that’s true, if you are not a watch enthusiast you would not know Langhe, but yes I understand your point
Nice watch, but I prefer the Glashutte Original SeaQ Panorama date - which have a better date. And ... correct me if I am wrong, the "old" A. Lange & Sohne watchmaker became a part of Glashutte Original. The "new" A. Lange & Sohne was just an old family member with a good name, and the rights, to "restart" a watch brand.
SeaQ is a great watch, and the big date system that Glashutte Original has is flawless. The old Lange became part of the GUB, after the fall of the Berlin wall most of the GUB became Glashutte Original. Walter Lange, who worked at the original Lange factory before WW2 and would have inherited Lange restarted his family company. Much more than a random family member -Mark
Typical Adolph thinking. They can’t never be satisfied with being the second or third best watch company, it must be THE BEST watch company…😂. Yeah I just find out that “A.” stands for Adolph, I mean what a clever marketing
It's dead accurate, It has scond time zone, It has chronograph function, It has timer function, It's minute repeater, It's titanium, It's cool and beautiful, It's luxury and finally it has history. For me the hidden gem is the Breitling Aerospace Evo!
I wouldn't call this a hidden gem. People know this watch exists. It's more like the "unattainable gem", because of its price (for most) and waiting list (for the few who can afford).✌🏽
Are you sure you’re on this planet? It’s “hidden” in the sense that there’s not a single steel for sale at a decent price. And the white gold is expensive right off the bat.
@@CrownandCaliber To me the only problem is that the bracelet is too wide. I understand that ALS were going for a different look since it won't appear like another integrated steel sports. But maybe they would've benefitted with a more conservative lugs-to-bracelet integration. Cheers
It gets plenty of recognition. Try buying one from an A.D. Or do you want to pay twice the price or more on the grey market. The only detraction of the watch, was the bracelet on the blue face model. Hideous.
