In this conversation John explores some of the many levels of sight - from a worm's eye view to an eagle's - from human negativity that sees a world of suffering and death, to the pure heart of meditation, which transfigures it to light. It is clear and uplifting.

Butler is one of those few exceptions who can use Christian mystical wisdom, without getting atheist all annoyed & defensive . It shows how deeper truths are not bound to any philosophy or religion..

Matt Orsie me too. Great voice ...but after sleeping I actually listened to what he’s saying and I honestly can’t figure out what his point is. After listening a couple times it doesn’t sound like he’s saying anything. It’s kind of crazy because he’s saying the words with such conviction that you assume there’s substance to it. “Listen to the bells chiming...”. Haha. But I’m thankful that it puts me to sleep.
@aacra

I completely agree. I find it hard not to fall asleep as his voice is so soporific and yet he actually says nothing really. It's as though he's voicing one long stream of consciousness without coming to any point or meaning. I am honestly at a loss as to how people find anything enlightening here.
@PatternRecognizer

It's a heart knowledge, not a head knowledge. Without the experience he is drawing from, it won't sound substantial. I can say with conviction that this is some of the most substantial feeding I've had in a long time.

I just can watch and listen to him for days. I complete understand people being frightened by the layer of Christianity in John, a lot of people have been hurt by so called 'Christians" , but true Christians are those who can maintain constant communion with God. It's not an attempt to be perfect, but it's the nurturing of a relationship of the One True Father .For those who are Christians and want to read more about the subject I would recommend the Carmelite books ( Therese d'avilla, John of the Cross, etc) For the non Christians who are still interested in the journey towards understanding a connection to the divine I recommend " The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran or "The Improvement of Human Reason: Exhibited in the Life of Hai Ebn Yokdhan" by Ibn Tuffail

Beautiful thank you. I love how the interviewer has trust in John to let him speak what is arising in him. I have found myself increasingly enraptured in non-duality over the last couple years. These Spiritual Unfoldment talks are helping me identify and let go of my resistance to 'Christianity' and my understanding of it. The light and the dark. My seperate identity has a light shining on it - however what I think is "hidden in plain sight" is that I am the light. Letting go of resistance feels like the key for me. That is what the interviewer is doing - letting go of his need to control and guide and allowing himself to fall into trust. Both of you enable a most beautiful portal into stillness. Cheers.

For all the people who are saying things about how stupid John's remarks are, try listening next time. The very first thing he talks about is expanding our horizons and seeing things differently, realizing how many different vantage points exist for the same situation. Way to prove his point guys
@asmrscriptures6808
@asmrscriptures6808 5 лет назад
@@studio_dbm your comment proves you didnt watch the video, as he indeed talks first about different view points, humans and worms specifically. Also your juvenile attack on his outlook proves my point, that he speaks about seeing things from a different point of view and most people are incapable of doing so. I think that giving examples that show the point that someone is trying to make is exactly what proof, is and how it works. I have done just that 3 times now, you should try it next time instead of mud slinging.
@asmrscriptures6808

@@studio_dbm You know nothing about me. I can see your point of view because I've lived it for many years. The spiritual realm is sort of like viewing reality in a sort of poetics. Where one thing may be understood through metaphor and the like. That is what John means when he says there are different ways of perceiving the ordinary as a beautiful and artistic manner. Which may reveal further, and beautiful truths.
@dna1ism
@dna1ism 5 лет назад
Jeremy, no offense of course we are all entitled to an understanding but one must really enjoy literature and speech in order to really participate in John's ideas. Much like all things of this kind! It is art! And you do not have to understand art as gospel unless it resonates and strikes you, otherwise you are free to try other methods of truth. That's the way of the human. Philosophy is awesome and there are so many perspective and view points! You want ontological! You can definitely get it in various forms! It's AWESOME!

John, what about "balance"? The universe is made up of opposites. Up, down. In, out. Right, wrong. Left , right. Good, bad. Night, day. Dark, light. Etc, etc. We must accept this simple reality. And maintaining that balance is critical to well being. One can not seek only one side and acheive balance with the world around us. Seeking only light and peace and not accepting dark and conflict is only pursuing a futile goal and ignoring the reality of half of the universe.

Johns use of the word 'stillness' is the equivalent of Luo Dong's use of the word 'pwobwum'.Instead of falling asleep and being relaxed in a quiet place.It's better to make the most of the real world,rather than preparing yourself for eternal stillness.Deep down we all know there's nothing beyond.

@awall1995
@awall1995 Год назад
Names and forms, mere labels to assign, Limitless and formless, silence divine. It cannot be grasped, nor can it be caught, For in the stillness, it is all that is sought. Beneath the surface, hidden in plain sight, The truth of being, a radiant light. It shines within us, beyond space and time, A constant reminder, all is not as it seems to be. We search for meaning, in words and in form, But true understanding, lies in the norm, The silence between, the spaces in between, Where the infinite resides, and can be seen. So let go of names and forms, that bind and restrict, And open yourself to the silence, that is always present. For it is in the quiet, that true wisdom is found, And the hidden truths, of existence are unbound. Limitless and formless, it surrounds and embrace, It is the ever-present, it is the space. In which all things reside, including ourself, And it is from there, true freedom is felt.

I first came across this music by Flipside on a lazy Sunday afternoon at a music festival called 'Summer Sundae' in Leicester, UK about 2005. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Sundae#2005_Lineup. The snobby yacht commercial music you are thinking of is Richard Hawley's 'The Ocean' from his album 'Coles Corner' here in Sheffield. I was more than surprised to hear it on the TV in a tiny bar in Punta Mujeres on Lanzarote in the commercial break of the Transatlantic Yacht Race. There is something so deeply cynical about repeatedly listening to content you think is utter BS, just because the guy has a relaxing voice. I always wondered how someone like Bob Ross, who spent his whole life trying to show people that painting was easy and anyone could do it, would feel about the fact that today half his audience just turns on his show as background noise, not even watching the paintings that were his life's work. Probably the same way John Butler would feel if you told him that half his audience wouldn't care if he was talking about whale turds just so long as he gave them the TINGLESSSS OMG

I think both John Butler and Father Christmas would be alright with it. It made me chuckle.

You know it's truth when it sounds like bullshit to most. Of course it sounds like nonsense if you don't have your own experience of it because the whole thing is totally beyond habitual and conventional thinking. You can't really only listen to somebody talking in order to receive the experience which he's attempting to communicate.

True wisdom is foolishness to even the most intellectual mind. You may have things to unlearn.

"Let's try not to talk about Christianity, because a lot of people seeking truths aren't Christian." John: "Okay, I'll quote the bible within 30 seconds and talk about the book of revelations and man's fall from paradise and how darkness is sin." I wonder if it would have been possible for John to attain "peace" without his Christian God (I'm hesitant to use the term "enlightenment", because it implies he truly knows something most don't, when he could be living in a delusion). Would John have been able to find peace without Christianity? He can't help but invoke it, even when asked not to! The stillness of God, the arms of God holding him, meditating in a church, etc. I am agnostic. I feel no God. There is no evidence of any God. If his God was dead, would John be at peace? If the universe just looked like a chaotic mess, without "creation", but a random sludge of iterative forms? Please ask him more about this, as he very quickly dodged the issue and turned it back into a bit of a bible-fest.

I really like your approach Clone42! I've been sharing this for a long time now. Going beyond words, questionning always. Finding your own path in all the stuff you can find. What I'd like to ask you : What if all of this has really no matter and can't really answer what you are looking for ? I mean truly looking for, something that feels like a real answer, not an intellectual one. Everything that you share here is your actual standpoint, an opinion (true or not) - I'm not judging you for being right or wrong, really, I don't mind but... What would be the real question if your actual state was "I simply don"t know" ? What really help in spirituality - to me at least - is a perfect honesty with ourself and the openess to accept what we REALLY know and are at this exact moment. I know... it's a bit different from what you want to express but I wanted to share those little questions with you. Wishing you to find what you need. And what resonates the most within you.

hello again - you may find John's new video 'too Christian?' addresses your comment. Or perhaps not? Let us know.

Its just his language - Ramana was a hindu and achieved "peace". And yes, I found the video "too Christian?" very helpful. I am an admirer of C Hitchens, whom had alot to say about Christianity and the negativeness surrounding it. I've struggle to find decent and honest "awoken" christians; Gangaji is one, Anthony De Mello another; old mystics like Meister Eckhart - but no one today and no one who manages line up non dualism with Christianity so well. Thank you, love and blessings.

@@BakerWase yes, Christopher Hitchins of course, was alcoholic. Talk about denial of "issues". In fact, a few years ago, my friend Bill O'Reiley had him on his show and had to cut him off, due to Hitchins being on an active bender. Talk about nonsense. Thanks for bringing HIS problems up.
