Being born and bred near Lincoln, I’ve always had a great fascination with and pride in “our” cathedral - I went up once when I was young and this video has stimulated my desire to visit again ( I’ve lived in Italy for the last 25 years and only get back to lincolnshire briefly each year). I visited the castle after its multi-million pound refurb a couple of years ago...... Evviva Lincoln and ALL its underrated marvels and rich history. ( Eleanor of Castile cross, home of Katheryn Swinford, palace of Henry II. (st marys guildhall) battles of Lincoln and the great William Marshall, medieval wool trade, Roman Colonia etc to name but a few) Thanks.

The chapter houses wasn't solely the domain of the Benedictine order. Bristol cathedral has a Norman chapter house from when it was founded as an Augustinian abbey in 1140. Oxford cathedral was another Augustinian foundation as was Carlisle.Hereford, Salisbury and York cathedrals have chapter houses although sadly Hereford's fell into disrepair and was never restored after the Civil War.These cathedrals weren't founded by the Benedictines but were staffed by non-monastic (so called secular) clergy who would meet in the chapter house to carry out the day's business, as were many others, which were priories and abbeys.

What a wonderful cathedral and an interesting video. I've always loved the Ballad of Barnaby, thanks for mentioning it. Whatever we can do, we should do it well, and do it for God.

I used to get up to mischief in my younger days, now I'm much older i absolutely adore the place. It was only about four or five weeks ago i was there, in one of the seven wonders of the world in my opinion. Looking forward to the cafe opening up again. Such a beautiful place, my spiritual home. Had you gone inside the pulpitum (choir screen) to the interior vaulted stairs and rooms, or examined the inside of the Easter Sepulchre - it would have been interesting.

I agree. See "Those terrible middle ages" by Régine Pernoud.

Perhaps the greatest thing hidden about Lincoln Cathedral is its Templar involvement with Mary Magdalene. See 'The murder of Mary Magdalene - Free Movie'. Initially sounding incredible and unlikely at first, but rationally involves tried and tested means of detection using Freud and Jung's Collective Unconscious and the phenomenon of synchronicity. Not to mention further vid 'The Lincoln Cathedral Code GPR scan 2011'.

It is true, the cathedral has a massive templar connection! Within the cathedral is the Mary magdeline Chapel and outside the cathedral on the site of the oldest church in England is the Church of Mary magdeline. Not many people are Aware of this and nor are is it advertised. Lincoln and Lincolnshire was a massive base to the templars

He only scratched the surface, there are many ways around the cathedral inside pillars and through the roof. He doesn't mention the underground tunnels or the suicides from the towers.
@teekeeymisha730
@teekeeymisha730 8 лет назад
He doesn't mention the underground tunnels because there aren't any. The Cathedral is built on bedrock; there is a tiny underground boiler room between the transepts on the south side but there are no underground tunnels, cellars or crypt.

I assure you there are or were, I have been in the one that connects the chapter house and the Bishop's Palace.
@teekeeymisha730
@teekeeymisha730 8 лет назад
And I assure you there aren't and weren't. There is a passage leading from Minster Yard to the Bishop's Palace, that runs under the gardens of the Dean's Verger's House and the Old Subdeanery, but; (a) both those gardens are set up on top of the old Close Wall, so it's not actually an underground tunnel; it's a passage that runs through the wall. (b) it runs from the South side of Minster Yard at road level to the Old Bishop's Palace (Edward King House) at the top of the garden on a steep slope, from where steps lead down to road level. It leads from road level to garden level without descending "underground" at all. (c) it begins with a door in the wall across the road from the Galilee Porch and is not connected to the Cathedral at all, let alone to the Chapter House which is on the opposite side of the Cathedral. I worked in the Cathedral for five years and know the building inside and out like the back of my hand. I can absolutely guarantee there are no underground passages or tunnels other than the small boiler room (which I mentioned above.)

I was also there for some years and I can assure you what I say is correct.
@teekeeymisha730
@teekeeymisha730 8 лет назад
And I can only assure you that you are mistaken. There are no tunnels beneath the Cathedral; not from the Chapter House to the Bishop's Palace and not anywhere else.

@DarkAgeTheorist
@DarkAgeTheorist 8 лет назад
+Capn Birdseye It's not an official tour so far as I know. It was a one-off to raise some money for a specific event. However, it might be worth contacting the cathedral or visiting their website.
