Its really cool that you decided to do this analysys. The more unconvettional historical content the better. I enjoy militarny history but its dominance on the platform is kind of tiring.

Thank you! I thought it would be a bit of a niche topic but I put a lot of effort into both the analysis and the video.

I was merely checking this out because I like your content, but didn't expect to like it that much, just veg out while I listen to it at work. But it genuinely ended up being super interesting to me. Thanks so much for the video!

Ironic that an official autocrat (that was legit one of her titles) of all people would want to be represented with Solon.

Ah yes the St.George ribbon something that would never again be used as another symbol of justification.

So true bestie, the ribbon of St. George has definitely not been used for any imperialist reasons at any point since the time of Catherine

What a great idea for a video! I'm not going to lie. Whenever I see something about the two oh-so great and enlighten despots; Frederick and Catherine, who also happen to be the main culprits of the destruction of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, I'm getting a bit sad. I keep thinking that I wish that Tadeusz Kościuszko would get even a tenth of the attention that either of them gets. But I'm a Kościuszko fanboy. 😅

I hadn't heard of Kościuszko before this comment, but skimming his Wikipedia page, sounds like a very interesting figure! I might take a crack at covering his life myself after doing some more thorough research, thanks for bringing him to my attention.

@@SomasAcademy that period is so full of interesting historical figures. When it comes to Catherine it would be more fitting to talk about Stanislaus Augustus. History of their relationship is pretty wild on its own.

@@SomasAcademy That's marvellous! Are you familiar with the Revolutions podcast by Mike Duncan? Way back in 2015, while covering the French Revolution, in episode 3.40 'The Frozen Rivers', he talked a lot about the Kościuszko Uprising, mainly to explain how it affected the War of the First Coalition. He also admitted that he should have already mentioned Kościuszko while covering the American Revolution and said he might make a supplemental episode just about him, alas, he never did. Also, your fellow HistoryTuber Sam Aronow talked a bit about Kościuszko (and about Stanislaus Augustus) in his series about Jewish history, which I highly recommend. On a less serious note. While I'll probably never get over the fact that Kościuszko is not featured at all in _Hamilton_ (while La Fayette somehow appears in New York in 1776) at least he got some bitchin' Belarusian punk tribute: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HOdoZwYCOnw.html ... and some Lithuanian folk: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S5EgRY6dD-0.html

I've heard of that podcast, but haven't listened to it, I'll check out the episode. LaFayette is a rather popular figure in America (which I can't resent, I am quite fond of him myself), much better known than any of the other Europeans who came over to help; reading about Kościuszko my first thought was of Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a Prussian who made significant contributions to the American war effort but who is woefully underdiscussed.
