Maybe not but, my close friend flew On Air Force One with both of the bush presidents. Younger bush met with all of the planes crew in a guarded hanger and shook hands with each and every crew member and thank them for the service they had performed during his flight. My friend was a flight engineer enlightening me of many of the intricacies of Air Force One. Or proof of his actions upon airforce 1,he showed me a self made video of himself securing the steps from the plane and then standing at the bottom to receive the president. My friend is a very interesting person to talk to I cannot divulge his name for security reasons.

The other night when President Trump flew into Atlanta, Air Force one flew directly over my house at 8:04 on its way to Dobbins, at about 2500 feet, it was SOOOO loud yet so awesome to hear and see. We are about 15 miles from Dobbins, so i was able to really follow the plane right up until it banked to land. My nest camera caught the sounds of it flying over even though i have it set for low level sounds, and yet it was loud! it was so cool

Actually, that door that is highlighted is yet another entrance/exit for passengers. It drops like the door of Marine One and has built in stairs. When Obama went secretly to Iraq, I saw a picture of him exiting AF1 from that door. They didn't use the regular stairs because it would have involved using additional ground crew, been obvious as to who was deplaning, and would have exposed him as a high profile target. At first I couldn't figure out what aircraft he was using both because it was in the dark of night, and because of the door configuration - but the Presidential Seal was plainly in view to the left. Later, when seeing the plane, I saw the door. So yes, AF1 has a "basement." BTW, food and supplies are loaded from opposite side of the aircraft as with commercial aircraft, and if you've ever noticed press and staff luggage is always sitting on the ground at the rear of the aircraft.

I thought it was great showing the VC-25, the E-4B, a C-5... all as the same plane. Incidentally, there are callsigns for any aircraft that the President is actually aboard. IF the the aircraft is USAF, it's Air Force One. If the aircraft is US Navy, then it's Navy One. If the aircraft is USMC, then it's Marine One. If the aircraft is US Army, then it's Army One. If the Aircraft is US Coast Guard, it's Coast Guard One. If the President happens to get into a civilian aircraft (no matter the size), the call sign is Executive One. If the US Space Force has any aviation assets and POTUS is aboard, it's Space Force One.

Interesting side note: after Nixon resigned but before the resigation took effect, he boarded AF1 to fly back to California. The resignation took effect at noon Eastern time, which was mid-flight. At that point, SAM 26000 or 27000 was no longer AF1 and had to abide by standard civil aviation rules.

2:10 - you mention George H.W. Bush, but show footage of George W. Bush.. Also, 4:04 - when the president flies on a Navy aircraft, it is given the call sign Navy One. The call sign Marine One is used when the president flies on Marine aircraft. Similarly should the president ever fly on board a Coast Guard aircraft, it would be given the call sign Coast Guard One (so far, this has never happened, though the call sign Coast Guard Two was used when then V.P. Biden flew in a Coast Guard Helicopter to survey flood damage).

Info. When flying outside of the USA the aircraft does not always use Airforce 1 callsign. If flying into key trouble spots or even some stable areas it uses other callsigns and the transponder returns different signature such as a small private jet. This is so those seeking to do harm to the aircraft do not know if it is Airforce 1 or not!

I remember one time, I think it was President Bush, was flying on an unannounced trip to the middle east. AF1 was spotted by a commercial jetliner halfway across the Atlantic and the pilot radioed asking if it was indeed AF! The AF1 pilot corrected the jetliner pilot telling him the plane was a Cessna and to shut up. The commercial pilot shut up. It almost caused the flight to be aborted as they were headed to a hotspot. It made the news AFTER the trip.

One thing I’ve heard in the last year or so, when you are seated on Air Force One, you are not supposed to go any further forward than the section you are seated in. The carpeting is color coded to that section, and to remind you to stay in your area. I also heard that one of the most complex things on the new jets are the self contained stairs and luggage loaders. If you are a guest on the plane, all luggage is checked on the tarmac before being loaded by sniffer dogs. I personally hope they keep the traditional Raymond Lowey design scheme for the exterior colors. No one mistakes Air Force One because of its appearance.

Trump was the one who selected the new colors and he chose the same color scheme that he uses on his plane. I believe there are future plans to change the color scheme before final delivery though. It takes years to activate the aircraft due to custom retrofits that have to be done after it is delivered to the Air Force.

Pardon me if it seems somehow unpatriotic, but I think it's a little _MUCH_ that the taxpayers have to foot the bill each time a new president decides he either needs a new plane or wants a complete makeover of what's there when he takes office. Upkeep makes me blanch, as do the necessary updates to the plane's technology, but the idea of change just for change's sake is a bit _MUCH!_ Stay safe, everyone.

Don't forget about the maintenance custom in that $200,000/ hour. The maintainers that are required to be experts and maintain a top secret clearance can get extremely expensive..

Is the $200K/HR per plane? (One for redundancy) What about the C-17 carrying the vehicles? A little golf trip to Pebble Beach would cost a few million dollars!
