Instagram - AdamTheWooATW I’ll be using Columbia SC as a central point next few days but driving all over small towns on outskirts each day then looping back to sleep at night . Ideas welcome
You should go to Summerville, many historic ruins there. Also, many historic houses and nice restaurants to eat at. Houses worth looking at are all over but my favorite is the pink house on East Richardson going towards Ladson.
Graniteville, South Carolina is a unique place to visit. It is an old textile town that was built as a paternalistic mill town. The mill owned almost everything in the town and a lot of the old mills, houses, and infrastructure still stands. There was a tragic train accident in 2005 that killed nine people there and eventually shuttered most of the remaining mills. I worked there myself in college and had multiple generations of my family that worked there at one time or another. Really cool history and a "forgotten" part of the south.
Does anyone else open google maps and follow along? I also google different places Adam is showing us to learn a little more history! I look forward to my morning coffee and following each new adventure. Thank you Adam the Woo!
Yes, I ALWAYS open the IPAD map and have a gander. I used to love regular paper maps, but as I’ve gotten older, and my eyesight is getting stranger, I depend on that IPAD!
Been LOVING getting up & having my coffee with you again, Adam! My favorite thing... Ever. Thank you for always starting my day off in a positive way ❤️
Adam, I so enjoy these videos. I was born in 1952 and some of these places take me back to my childhood. I also think of the lives that used to keep those places alive. Those old stores in the small towns was the only place to buy your groceries back then. There was one in our town when I was a child. Those places and lives so busy then sit so lonely now. You take us oldies back to our memories. Also, your humor and style is so refreshing. Thank you Adam!❤
Thank you so much for highlighting my home state of South Carolina. Born in Sumter, family originally from Charleston. My grandfather had a cotton farm in Cope, South Carolina. Our summers were spent on his farm with the simple things in life, picking watermelons, and if you dropped it on the way back to the farmhouse you had to eat the whole thing. Scratching the pigs and sows backs with long sticks, and running from the cows, which , by the way, can run fast! He let us drive his tractor and his 65 candy apple red mustang that only got driven once a week to his church named Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church. I live in a big city now, but will never forget my childhood there. I'm very proud to be from South Carolina, love to brag about it whenever I can!
HEY ATW..."AMAZING" IS THE WORD TO DESCRIBE TODAY'S DOCUMENTARY EPISODE. If you only knew the service you are providing, not only to viewers now, but for generations to come. No one has catalogued most of the places you've been to and seen. Your camera work is always spot on and you pick up on dates for Posterity. I'm really glued to the vlogs this year. Thank you.
A part of me finds it really sad to see these little towns empty and slowly decaying. How I'd love to see them 'back in the day' full of life. One day I think we'll come to value small communities once more
OMG!!! You have solved a mystery for me. A few years ago we were traveling to VA and somehow got off track somewhere near the Mall of Georgia in Buford Ga and ended up off the beaten path and saw this ethereal structure. We slowed down a bit to check it out but since we were already lost and on a time schedule we didn’t take time to drive up to check further. It looked like an old castle so I searched for castle ruins in that area on the internet for years and came up with nothing. We didn’t even remember what city we were in because we were lost. We are definitely going back to check it out. And it’s all thanks to you Adam🥰😃. If you’re ever back in the middle Georgia area shout me out. Happy trails!
This town is far north of Buford, but do you think it was Helen in White County? I live in Cumming half a hour north of Buford, don’t remember any castle ruins. Perhaps Barnsley Resort near Adairsville? Or Chateau Elan near Braselton. Just thinking of what could look like a castle, sometimes wineries/wedding venues are designed like a castle
Were you taking I 75 to Atl and then trying to get on I 85, that comes out below Buford, Looking at Google maps to see what roads you would take to get to VA
I remember driving through the backroads of South Carolina four years ago when the interstate was backed up. I drove through several small towns and I remember thinking that I felt like I was in a horror movie cause the road I was on there was no one but me and there were houses that were falling down and abandoned rusted out cars everywhere. I remember driving through Cordova and I have a few photos on my phone where I took photos of a strange small building with a coffee pot on the roof and the inside was filled with nothing but dolls set up at tables like they were enjoying a meal. Like a very big doll house for a kid. I remember thinking how weird that was. I do have to say I did meet some very friendly people driving through those small towns that day. Nice to see you smash the water bottle again like old times. You saw a very pretty sunset.
Love that you talk to the 🐄 cows! Thought I was the only one. Actually you acknowledge all the critters, horses, dogs, birds etc. You are very observant, appreciate all the information you find about these little towns, please show the homes they live in addition to the businesses.
Adam thx for this wonderful content you certainly have a way of bring out the beauty of a lot of these old relics and structures and just amazed of all the old history we have there in the south! Great adventures as always! Keep em’ coming!
Love seeing these little towns. Nice to see something back in time. The cows enjoyed you coming by. Thanks for sharing the simple life. I miss that in todays fast world. 👍
What beautiful little towns and buildings stuck in time . Imagine what those houses and stores was like back in the day with there signs lit and painted . You can see why places like that get used for movies . Thanks once again Adam for the content.
Columbia is near my hometown, Camden, SC's oldest inland city. Lots of neat Revolutionary War sites around the area, and the Quaker Cemetery dates back to 1759. US Hwy 1 runs right through the center of town. 👍🙂
I've been to Sheldon Church many times but there was never a fence around it, so that's new. It's probably been 6 or 7 years since I've been there but you used to be able to freely walk around the ruins wherever you wanted.
Your recent tours are giving us all the feels again about SC! It’s so beautiful! We gave thought about moving there at one time. Always on our radar! Enjoy!!
Enjoying this trip! Love these backroad vlogs. Had to laugh when you said "Hi" to the cows and every cow turned their head to look at you! Save travels!
Great to have your channel reactivated and reenergised for the new year adam.ireally love your style of narration with a little humour mixed in while we tour the back roads & byways of good ol americana.
Beautiful sunset, there is healing spring water in Ashe County, NC at Shatley Springs Restaurant, it runs 24/7 also and it has the best taste and is also free just bring your container or they sell empty jugs there. Love your videos!!!
Yemassee was where thousands of recruits disembarked from trains for the final leg of the trip to Parris Island. A lovely place to have a vacation, I might add. And Bull was probably that woman's maiden name, there are folks with that name in North and South Carolina.
Went by Sheldon church in 2016 on my to Parris Island to seen my son graduate from the USMC boot camp. I didn't stop but I made sure to look for it on my way back home.
I have been to the old Sheldon Church dozens of times in my life, it's on the way to the beach for me. That old, lonely road the church is on is very spiritual - if you believe in that. Lots of spirits in that area. Traveling that road at night is interesting. They have made other faster ways of getting around it, but I always take that road. Come through Aiken some time, my home town - lots of interesting things to see - not to mention all the little mill towns in the area with plenty of nostalgia every where.
There is a couple of Churches in Charleston, that is a complete version of this church building. Hate that people decided desecrate it, used to be able to walk inside.
I use to live off of deliverance with my mom and step dad. Everybody shared that same sentiment to that road name. So many memories just flashed through my mind.
Never been exploring in SC before but it's definitely on the bucket list. Love exploring these kind of little towns in the south. Makes for a nice relaxing day trip or weekend getaway.
I have always heard of those healing waters, but thanks to you...I actually saw them! I hope you benefit from them in some way! Wow! Interstates are great for getting to your destinations in a timely manner...but they rob us of keeping in touch with rural America and the treasures to be found there. I enjoyed this so much! I'm looking forward to the next week or so, as you traverse across the state and explore the hidden gems!
I was born in a doctors office in Williams,S.C. in 1972. Was raised in Orangeburg and Sumter. Now live in Nevada. Haven’t been to S.C. in over 30 years. Great video!
Itruely enjoy your videos, I am almost 80 & no longer drive. I regret not taking my time to stop & visit old towns across the USA. Thanks & keep on keeping on.
HEY, ADAM THE WOO &:Mr. Big The Foot 👣 And very scary Willow trees and Yes, A very beautiful Horse 🐴 And got to enjoy All The Old school Building's old looking gas station and other stuff And I also appreciate The Cool looking water Towers well Adam keep up with the fabulous travel to all these old places
I'm just viewing your channel for the first time. I am a transplant from Raleigh NC living in Columbia SC for 10 years now.. Gr8 video..I get to save my gas money . Down the street at Walmart the gas is $4.09 a gallon.
When we lived near Ogden, Utah we would go to a natural spring that flowed out from under a fake tree in North Ogden. It was very good water and there was always a lot of people there getting their water jugs filled. I saw a similar spring near Mount Palomar when we went there years ago. It was off the side of the road. I am sure there are many more throughout this country. It would be interesting to find out how many there are that let you go fill your water jugs up.
Welcome to South Carolina sorry you’re passing up Charleston. Anyway love your videos. Stay warm and safe the weather could get crazy in Columbia. We always want to see some snow down here in Charleston but not happening this time.
I live in the upstate of sc I could show you some really interesting and old sights. Around the town I live and in downtown Easley, glad you get to enjoy the sites. You may have visited already but monetta sc still has one of the original drive in movie theaters. I went down there years ago to see one of the fast movies amazing experience. Hello from Williamston sc
Now I wish I had paid more attention when I lived in South Carolina what amazing amazing I love the ruins of the church amazing! I love the Mason details so that explains why it's still standing even though a fire took most of it the bones are still there! Happy travels Adam! I agree that leopard Appaloosa was gorgeous she actually looked pregnant that'd be cute little mama and little baby! It looks too early for the wisteria which I am a huge fan of but apparently in South Carolina it's a nuisance most The Vines you see like probably all over that house is most likely with wistera it's everywhere. You should pop back in when it's in full bloom if you like that Moss you will love love love the wisteria it's so pretty you've got a green canopy then the purple just breathtaking!
@@KirasArmy06 where I used to live which was Gray Court they actually have in the area relics of the South being Southern mansions but the first things to go apparently were the slave quarters but the outbuildings are pretty unique! When I go back to visit and my favorite supplier of soap making goods is out of Cayce a suburb of Colombia. We were less than a quarter mile from the chemistry store we were at the train tracks and we got a flat tire so we couldn't pick up our order and they brought our order to us! That is Southern hospitality! We were treated so kind even though we had Michigan plates I sure miss South Carolina! ❤️
Sitting with my piping hot caffeinated beverage here at my desk this morning. What better way to start the day!! Keep up the fantastic videos. So interesting. Might have to buy a new pair of shoes with all them miles you're going to put on them. Have a fantastic and safe weekend!!
I lived in SC for 3 years back in the 1980s. Sometimes my work required that I go into some of these backwoods areas. I can tell you that at night it is pitch black back there. It is so dark you can't see your hand in front of your face. Serious black. Not a bit of light from anywhere. And along side every road was a drainage ditch. If your car got down in one of them, there was little chance of getting out. I had the worst fear of getting stuck in one of them at night and nobody would be around to help me. I drove extra careful at night. There could be any kind of critter jumping out at the worst possible time. It was a bit scary, no doubt.
Yes that area of the country you do not drive with your hi beams or else you have the opportunity to meet a deer in your car. Yes Shelton Church I have been there a least 3-4 times in the past 10 years! Yemassee is also named for the indian tribe in the 1700's and the Yemassee War that took place in South Carolina.
You'll want to use Lexington as a Hub. So much road construction and traffic along I20 and I26. You can use Two Notch Rd and HWY 1 to move parallel to I20 as well as Platt Springs/ Pond Branch Rd. Can intersect the 3 with SC-6, LongsPond (Exit 51 I20), CalksFerry, Pond Branch Rd. (Exit 44 I20). Columbia and West Columbia are always hard to move through because of traffic. The accommodations will be better out of Lexington County and the risks of your vehicle or self being accosted are lower.
I live in South Carolina. As interesting as i find it to see these old buildings and imagine what they once were… it brings me so much sadness that these buildings will never get repurposed. They havre so much potential. A “small town” with bars and restaurants Instead everyone will flock to the McDonalds and Walmart What a shame.
It's interesting to me that you've never seen natural water springs before. I am from a town called Springville which is named that because of all of its natural springs :)
We had one near our place and we called it flowing wells. Got water there all the time. One day the county stopped the flowing water spring and it was no more. Not sure if it was a water concern or not.
"I just saw a chicken cross the road." Lol. That was a perfect end to your vlog. I enjoyed today's trip and am loving the return to the road. The theme park videos were causing me to lose interest and I've stopped watching many of your fellow vloggers. I can only watch so many videos of the same rides over and over again. It's a big country with so much else to see. I'm happy that you're exploring again! :)
Now this is the video of South Carolina I’ve been waiting for! Small towns and back roads of one of my favorite states! Love the Bigfoot air freshener on the mirror! Great video!

Love this video so much! All interesting and wonderful! Love the natural springs at the end and the chickens crossing the road! Made me want to move home to South Carolina. I have lived in San Diego for 30 years.
You, sir, have an awesome take on your surroundings. Thank you for sharing the view through your lenses.😎 That spotted horse is like us freckled peeps... Lots of horsey angle kisses.👈😉
Thank you for taking us along on your S.C. trip and especially for your kindness about our beloved state. We may be having some icy weather so beware, very treacherous drive here. Thank you again.
