South Carolina has a long history of war and peace, boom and bust. That has left a lot of abandoned places throughout the state to explore. This video explores eleven of the more dramatic places, though there are many more. Included is a little bit of history about each place. Include are Old Sheldon Church, Pinckney Castle, Morris Island Lighthouse, Poinsett Bridge, and several others.
All clips are available for purchase for your own project at Pond5. www.pond5.com/artist/wollwerth
As usual, all music is by the very talented Kai Engel

Most clips were shot with an Autel Evo 2 Pro, though some were shot with an original DJI Mavic Pro or a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k pro.

It's amazing how many of these places are being lost to the ocean.

Islands move, this has been taking place since the beginning of time. The wind blows the sand and over many many years it literally moves the island. This is why they had to relocate the lighthouse on the island of Cape Hatteras or it would still be in the ocean. This is not climate change.

Until about 5 years ago, the Old Sheldon Church was totally open without the fence around it. Unfortunately, some young person thought it would be funny to chip away some of the bricks. Hence, the fence. I have actually attended weddings on the grounds prior to the fence. Don't know if they will allow that anymore or not.

Yes, it was such an incredible shame when they fenced it in. All it takes is one idiot. He apparently tried to sell the bricks on eBay.

The various plans for this Morris Island Light wii, DEFINITELY, make you shake your head. One plan was to make the surrounding area into a subdivision. Another was to make the light a tourist attraction. From what I've been told, the current in that is VERY DANGEROUS!! A tour boat would catch hell trying to dock, and stay anchored at that dock. Another plan was to restore the light. A late reporter that I knew from the Post and Courier told me that the interior had rotted away, and, was now, an outdoor privy for birds and bats.😮😮😮😮

It's only been in the last few years that WHOMEVER cleared the overgrowth on Castle Pinckney. Until then, by viewing it from, or, a observation point , it looked like A BIG GREEN MOUND. I have pictures of when it was used as a Union POW camp after First Bull Run(Manassas). Always amazed me what used to be under that mound.😮😮😮😮

I remember visiting that concrete structure in the early eighties, almost 40 years ago. I don't remember any graffiti, only the places where the big guns used to be. There were no gates around the large holes as seen in your video. We had no idea what it was. Now I finally know. A coastel defense called Ft. Fremont. Never stop learning! ✌️

Forty years is a long time, but I do remember it being extremely overgrown. We didn't go far inside but don't remember any graffiti. Perhaps it was there but not like what I saw in your video. Way before google, so we didn't know what it was. But I do remember seeing copper pipes up in the wall.

@@andrewcraig3369 The darkest place is Hunting Island state park. Not sure what their hours are this time of year, but if they're open, you can shoot night photography.
