I use a car reflective windshield sun shield inside the hammock. Just make sure you secure one end with p -cord through a reinforced hole with duct tape so it doesn’t tear. That way it won’t slide down in the hammock. Make sure the shield extends from head to 6 inches below your butt. You can sew matrerial to one side of the sun shield to make it stronger and less prone to tear. That sun shield can take you down to 40F, 30F in a pinch but you will feel some of the cold coming through, but better than no insulation at all. A poncho liner with the SOL double size mylar heat sheet safety pinned to it makes an excellent under quilt, over quilt, or tarp in a pinch as well. Sew a zipper in the poncho liner for your head to pass through and cut a slit in the SOL mylar heat sheet as well, and then reinforce the mylar with packaging tape and you have a extra survival garment. That’s what I have been doing for years.

i thought i`d pass this tip on in order to help others. i bought several of the Molle Water-Bottle Pouches to provide our dog Bella, with water on real hot days. Of which we have had plenty. There is room enough for a metal bowl in the zipup top section for her needs, and 1 Lt of water too. I bought from a Seller in China and saved lots of money,however the three Molles i bought smelt like rotten fish when they were delivered by the Mailman. ___ i sorted it quite easily i made some bags up with soft kitchen paper and sellotape,then filled them with Restaurant grade lump wood charcoal and placed them in those rather smelly pouches. I dangled them from a gate in one of our tiny gardens so the sun and fresh air would also be a big help too. Well we certainly needed it. Two days went by and they all smell fresh as daisy`s now. i guess charcoal left over from a camp fire could also be used. Anyway brother i am being a bit long winded.____ i love watching your video`s especially this one. From the evergreen gardens that are our part of Fiddle Wood UK, this has been little o`l me BB.

Thanks. The jerky, trail mix and hot chocolate are enough for me for an overnighter or even a couple of days. You pilled out a lot O' gear out of that haversack.You could easily make a 3 day pack out of that. I Like the compact Pocket boy 130. I thought Spirit was a winter sasquatch for just a second !

Hello my outdoors friend, thank you for sharing, yet, another fine video, it's very informative. I've heard that Malcolm makes a really fine haversack. You are always very thorough in your presentations. Take care out there. See you on the next one. 🤗

Good Vid and nice kit !!! I'm Wondering which model of grand trunk hammock is that ? I normally carry a full size grand Trunk Double and yours looks much smaller than mine does ..
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 5 лет назад
It's the Grand Trunk Nano. I chose it because it is small enough to fit in a kit and yet still big enough and tough enough to hold me up for a night if needed. Thank you for watching and commenting and for your question!

@@WayPointSurvival I can sure appreciate that. On my main channel - St Bernard Acres, people pretty much know where it is. This channel I'm trying to build, will be much more vague about the location of the bushcraft/bug out area.

Man, that seems like it would be miserable to carry for any length of time! The pack itself looks great and I can't fault what you carry- it's just that the haversack format is terrible for heavy loads IMO. I don't think I could deal with that much stuff on one shoulder strap, banging on my leg as I walk.
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 5 лет назад
It really doesn't bother me. I wouldn't want it to be much heavier or I would definitely just use a small backpack. I have it adjusted so it doesn't swing against my legs etc. A haversack load out like mine isn't for everyone, but it's one option that many seem to like and I have used from time to time over the years. Thanks for watching and for your thoughtful comment!

Can I ask why you didn't just use a daypack? That looks awful heavy and cumbersome for a single strap, not to mention swing and bump when walking. That said great loadout James.

Brother James, I have a real down home southern HOBO cooking challenge for ya. My Daddy used to cook something he called hoe cake bread. For years I thought he was saying whole cake bread untill I seen a cooking show one day all about what hoe cake bread was and where it originated. The cotton pickers would bring some flour and cornmeal or whichever they had into the fields with them to work and mix up a thick batter with water and salt if they had a little and then they'd put their iron hoe over a small fire and get it good and hot. Then they'd put the batter on the hot hoe and cook up a piece of fresh bread kinda like a big thick pancake right there in the field for lunch! So how about it, you think you can do a episode on authentic hoe cake bread cooked on a small fire on a iron hoe? Have a blessed day and I look forward to watching this episode.

I am aware of that cooking method. And, it might be a good way to do a video. Thanks for watching!

Where would I fly to from Cali to take your Phase I class? Bighton, MA? I would not rent a car and I do use an all-terrain walker. But I'm fairly experienced due to my youth with a rugged dad and years of hiking, especially with some difficult trips in the Sierra -Nevada Mountains with Sierra Club in my middle age. I still hike and go on triking trips too! Might I re-imburse someone to ride with? (I even had other hikers ride-share with me in my new car who did not pay--and I was too meek then to ask them to pay up and stop using me as a free taxi!). My doc says I will live until 105 b/c I have excellent bloodwork, exceptional blood pressure, and have athlete's bradycardia i.e. slow heartbeat due to the heart muscle being so fit it beats less often b/c of its ability to pump more volume with each heartbeat. Planning on climbing Mt. Whitney again this year, just will take longer.
