Roger's lyrics and composition of his song, Hide in Your Shell, cannot help but touch people on so many levels. Roger sings with such emotion and openness of his heart that it is obvious his songs come from deep within him. It is not uncommon to see audience members in tears because of how deeply they are touched. Don't miss the opportunity to see Roger live in concert. Roger, co-founder of Supertramp, is currently on tour, performing a variety of shows with full band, acoustic, and with orchestras around the world.
"People often write to me and say that this song in particular strikes a chord in them. Maybe it's because I was going through a difficult time in my life when I wrote it that people are able to relate to it. Our teenage years seem to be difficult ones for many of us, especially if one is sensitive. I know there is a tendency to want to Hide in Your Shell." ~ Roger Hodgson
Roger not only wrote & composed Hide in Your Shell, he also gave us the great majority of the hits to include Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, Dreamer, Give a Little Bit, Take the Long Way Home, It's Raining Again, School, Fool's Overture & many more. Although Roger and Supertramp's other co-founder shared writing credit, they actually wrote & composed separately with each singing their own respective songs. bit.ly/1Kfgu0W

LYRICS: www.rogerhodgson.com/lyrics/ly...
"I went to my first concert at the age of 44 to see your show. I was so amazed by the experience. I have to say you sound like you did when I was 15 buying your albums. I had goose bumps most of the night. I think you actually care about your guests and we all felt so welcome my friend. Thanks for an experience that will stay with me for the rest of my days."
"I was a typical teenager being pulled in a hundred different directions. Some of them frightening and lonely. Hide in Your Shell spoke directly to my heart. It told me I wasn't alone and that any good that would come of my life would be a direct result of me summoning up my courage and living true to the values and principals I felt. "I, as a boy, I believed the saying the cure for pain was love. How would it be if you could see the world through my eyes?" struck me as Shakespeare. 30+ years down the road now. Words to a boy are now a creed for a man."

Yes most definitely a true genius, I always remember my older brother playing them and from about the age 5)6 I've listened to them although not understanding what most of them where about at that age but,by the age of about 8/9 I started to understand all of their music, plus my brother was also a DJ,so I was very lucky to have had such a genre of music 🎶 but supertramp are one of my all time favourites and I'm 55. 👌🙏❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Indeed. They were one of those 'wrecking crew' groups. John Helliwell claimed 'tongue and cheek' that during the ten year layoff of the group from 1987-1997 that he would go back to school to learn how to really play the saxophone.

Going to football games & concerts didn't help. I once spent $100.00 on beer at a football game. I went & got help spent 6 months at Salvation Army, Then AA meetings, The AA meetings really helped, hearing other people stories helped. The people at AA meetings are very friendly. Congrads on 26 years Im only 5 years

Hi Shaun O'Brien, I've been in recovery for 13 years. I just used this song and its lyrics to help a friend getting started trudging the road of happy destiny. I realize it's probably about a love relationship, but like many great songs, the meaning can apply to many things. My experience with Recovery is that it's about learning to face our own fears and realities. Regarding the "cure for pain is love," I think he's saying he THOUGHT as a boy the cure for pain is love, but as a grownup, it's about learning to ask for help dealing with the demons in our closets. But of course I might be wrong, given you have twice the number of years I do!

Every song is an interpretation od once conquest and struggles, so NO ONE is wrong, having worked with SUPERTRAMP amongst so many bands, I can say that if and when we discussed their songs, their answers would ALWAYS be, "we wrote it with one purpose, and so many times, ours listeners will interpret it in many other way's, that's what makes song writing so fulfilling". So ROCK ON and Here is to years more of recovery. God Bless. Giving Thanks from Canada to the World. AMEN.

Who isn't a genius? Ask any mother of her children and she will brag proudly. Rick was the true anomaly of the group. It is so difficult to hear his piano playing because he was so incredibly and profoundly in step. I am disappointed that musicians from other groups haven't stepped forward to point this out. Rick is /was a great percussionist upon the piano. This is why I know Bob Siebenburg was great. He had to be. Rick's organ playing? He said that he was offered a job as a teenager to play the organ which he never had. So, he faked it.

Supertramp put out a lot of good music but personally hide your shell it's probably one of their best songs the lyrics have so much meaning behind them and tell you a story that if you've ever had any kind of controversy or just genuine chaos in your life this song puts it in perspective

Took my daughter to the Royal Albert Hall on the 23rd to see Roger and I can only describe it as one of the best nights of my life. The guy is 69 and his voice sounds even better now than it did 30 years ago. His voice is ageless.

Yes, when an artist can get this far into your feelings, especially at a turning point in life, you can’t help but be vulnerable and willing to take emotional risks. Knowing he has this effect keeps Hodgson energized and able to recreate his songs' magical effect regardless of innumerable replays.

Just realize that his songs were Supertramp productions. Roger and Rick wrote the original songs to this album in 1972. They then spent two years in a house revising and rewriting them to form. Rick wrote 4½ of the songs to Roger's 3½. But the group together worked them to their finished high quality.

I was newly 16, had left home, working in the city, feeling quite alone to be honest.... Walking down the street past the record shop (yeah we had vinyl shops which were AWESOME!!) Crime of the Century album was playing, and it was this track - walked straight in and bought my first ever LP album... It's still one of my favourites, that was in 1975..... Supertramp are so overlooked when we talk about the greats of the 70s, they were in my opinion right up there with the best of the best. I saw Queen live that year too, what an era.

"Hide In Your Shell" is my favorite Supertramp song. I absolutely love "The Logical Song," "From Now On," "Rudy," "Crime Of The Century," Breakfast In America," "Ain't Nobody But Me," "Bloody Well Right," Give A Little Bit," "Take The Long Way Home," "Goodbye Stranger," and "Dreamer." There, that's a dozen great Supertramp tunes. But, "Hide In Your Shell" is especially powerful, brilliantly hitting all the emotions past and present of this listener. Like Roger said, it strikes a chord. It's absolutely one of the best pop/rock songs of all time.

This has been one of my favourite songs since I was bought the Live in Paris album many moons ago, ive sang it out loud in the house in the car, when i was sad, it was very cathartic, my three kids have grown up knowing it, it builds to such a crescendo part way through, its a real goosebump maker, I was lucky enough that my wonderful boyfriend bought me tickets for Christmas to see Rodger perform in Brussels last Sunday, I wasnt sure it would be the same as The Live in Paris, but I couldnt be more wrong, I had goosebumps , tears and I sang my heart out, the performance in brussels was even better, a huge wave of love and respect for a really talented artist who has stood the test of time rippled through the audience, thank you so much and thank you to my wonderful boyfriend for making a dream come true and driving the 800 miles round trip, from England and back, it will go in my memory box as one of the most precious memories in my life. I was only 19 when I saw Supertramp for the first time in Moncton New Brunswick along with about 9-10 thousand other people. It was an an amazing concert. 40 years later I just saw him again last night back in Moncton, this time at the Casino along with about 2800 other people. Once again it was amazing. His voice was exactly the same. My wife and I so much enjoyed it I came up and went to his web site to see where we may travel to see him again. Thank-you for such an enjoyable evening.

Wish i could see him with the rest of the guys, but even if Hell sometimes freezes over, it is probably hoping, for too much. I will catch him on his next tour of Europe though.
