Hide your Trash! Double Trash can Blind

Everybody produces some trash and if you're anything like me you absolutely hate the colorful trash cans that ruin your beautiful backyard view. My solution was to build a hutch using pressure treated wood from the home center that would hide our two ugly green trash cans behind closed doors!
📔 Build your own! Get your plans here! www.diytyler.c...
👕 GET YOUR SHIRT ON, Rep the #TyNation! bit.ly/DITylerM...
This is a very simple build that will take you an afternoon to complete and will make such a huge difference in your backyard aesthetic for a long time. This trash can blind will hide two 96 gallon trash cans, if you have more than that I would not suggest making it larger as the doors will tend to drag on the ground if they are any wider.
Construction is with deck screws and you can add some bracket hardware if you want, I started with some leftover hardware but ended up not liking how wobbly the structure was so I reverted back to butt joints with deck screws. There are some 45° cuts and a few fence boards need to be ripped to a thinner size but this is quite a simple build and can be completed with only a few tools.
The frame is built with just 2x4s and the trash cans are hidden using 5 1/2" deck boards. 4 gate hinges hold the doors on and a barrel latch and gate lock hold the doors shut hiding your ugly trash cans from view. I added a few screws to hold the entire structure to the barn. While this is not necessary it does make the structure more stabilize and prevent any shifting if you crash on of the cans into the hutch while changing them out.

The ends of pressure treated wood rotting out is because the builder probably didn’t field treat the wood. The pressure treatment doesn’t extend through the entire thickness of the wood, so cut ends need to be treated.

I like your work...but I'm a newby to wood working etc, and would have like to have seen how you navigate the planks nearest the hinges so they don't make contact with each other when you open the gate. It appears you have cut the planks in half as i can see the chrome hinge between the planks. Anyway, thanks again. I found your video very helpful as I've completed 2 days of a 3 day build, but for a solo can (3x4)...thus, I'm ready to tack on the planks.

Wood rots out because water gathers where the wood meets the ground/pad. Surface tension keeps it there, giving it time to wick into the wood. You want to stop rot, put 1/4” or 1/2” metal / plastic feet under the contact between ground and wood.

My trash can or more likely called Garbage can is just keep on the other side of house so can't be seen from the street except on Trash pick up day or more likely called Garbage pickup day or late at night the night before. Any thing that is no longer of use that is sticky stinky or messy I consider Garbage. Waste Paper and non messy stuff no longer of value would be trash. So to me Garbage and trash have different meanings although similar. Paper shredder you end up with trash, while garbage disposal gets rid of garbage left in a sink.

@DIYTyler

Dont think I've seen a good looking can! A splinter never killed anyone (I don't think) other option is gloves ran over by the lawn mower. If we had a lot to move we would have some gloves on, holding a few pieces is no big deal.
