How the Yanks couldn't figure out how to keep him there during free agency, I will never understand. Still glad though that he had a great season with the Angels as well as the Yankees signing him to a 1 day contract so that he could retire in pin stripes in 2013.
can't believe yanks didn't bring back the world series mvp - it was really disappointing... even though I am a yankee fan for life - i am very bitter about the way he was treated... should have been given a 2 year extension and be allowed to retire a yankee without having to move to other teams... was one of my favorite yankees. very humble and very professional.
One of Matsui's first interviews as a Yankee, he said one of the first things he wanted to see in NY was Ground Zero, to pay his respects. That said a lot about him as a person!
So cool seeing Matsui getting that warm embrace from his old teammates! Probably wasn't even expecting it. You could tell that guy got a lot of respect from that clubhouse
Matsui revealed in his Players Tribune article that Jeter switched out the ring Matsui was supposed to get with one of the replicas they were giving out to fans. Matsui didn’t notice so when he goes back to the dugout to proudly show it off to all his teammates he’s showing off probably some cheap bronze ring.
World Series MVP *Traded immediately* -___- Effing dumbass baseball logic that we see all the time. "OMG WE WON IT ALL WE BETTER DUMP ALL OUR TALENT LMAO"
they didn't trade him... he left in free agency when the Yankees called to negotiate his next contract they had nothing prepared and he felt insulted by that fact and signed with the angels
The sad part is that the Angels currently have 2 of the best generational players in the league ( Trout and Ohtani) but still can't make the playoffs because the rest of the team sucks.
