Maybe it's because most musicians nowadays don't work on convention and half of music is written by the seat of their pants. Or in this case, on the seat of their bare ass. Musical convention was far more strict back in the day due to a variety of factors, namely religious gatekeeping eliminating most records of the common man's music. There's a lot we don't know.
