One thing to remember for all those who are comparing the v2 with the v3. The Arya v3 needs a substantial amount of time (at least ~50-75 hours) to burn in and 'start' to loosen up - just like the v2. When brand new the v3 has a noticeably smaller soundstage and vocals sound sort of close/in the head compared to a well played in v2. After about 50 hours of pink noise their sound-staging, sense of space, imaging, and layering greatly improves and closely rivals the v2. What's different is the v3's has more dynamic bass , better timbre and texture, and a more natural tonality. Plus they are substantially easier to drive. Many have dismissed the v3 over the course of a few days listening without giving them time to play in. They do change over time - just like the v1's and v2's.

I wholeheartedly agree with this! It didn't make it into the review unfortunately, but the Aryas were underwhelming to me for the first couple of weeks. They definitely need time to open up and I'm not normally big on burn-in
@rkd59
@rkd59 2 года назад
The PAD System Enhancer is a disc specifically developed to enhance, accelerate and shorten the burn-in process. It can also be used for session warm up as well. It has algorithms that completely condition all components in the audio system.

@@rkd59 What is this sorcery? And will it make me magnetic?
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
I'm not one to jump to quick conclusions without trying things first, but the System Enhancer sounds like a poor investment to me. In their marketing they talk about speeding up system warm-up, but the process described is switching the system on an leaving it to play (i.e. warming it up for an extended period). On top of that, I'm not aware of any reason why an amp (for example) would heat up faster or slower because the full power of an amp is always available and it's the volume setting that controls the amount of voltage going to the speakers, not the sound being played.

Simply brilliant review. I truly enjoyed just watching it. great balance between vertical and horizontal comparisons, beautifully wrapped back together. I can almost hear how the these headphones sound from this one. I feel like understand better what I can expect when spending this much, and what this particular headphones where set up to do. This should be a benchmark to how reviews should be done. I had to watch it a few times just to understand the thought behind the presentation and, well, just enjoy some quality audio talk. :)

Thanks for this!! I really love the 2020 Arya, especially with my FA-10. So much smooth detail and realistic yet expansive soundstage. Then I heard the new Stealth Magnet Version at CanJam SoCal, and I heard exactly what you're reporting here. The bass much was much more present, with more realistic timbre, but still a bit of treble bite that makes the sound exciting. Just contacted Hifiman to see if I can trade mine in for a Stealth Magnet Version...crossing my fingers they won't charge too much!

I'd say on sound quality alone, after EQ, the arya was a clear step above the empyrean. Even the ananda was on par with the empyreans after EQ. Empyrean was definitely missing some of the resolution and detail that the Arya provides. And although the Elite fixes this, it's still nowhere near being a good value proposition.
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
I can't agree with this having tried them all. I can understand people not liking the tuning of the Empyreans - they're very coloured and won't suit everyone. The Arya and Ananda both miss some of the subtle midrange timbral and textural info that the Empyrean and Elite (more so) can produce. As for value, that's very subjective, but the only headphone I've heard that bests the Elite in some ways (not all) is the $6000 Susvara.

Your guidance on power needs is spot on and I actually run about 2 hours lower on Arya vs Sundara on Schiit Heresy amp in low gain mode. Terrific review, and appreciate the fact that you're replying to everyone here! Recently heard the Arya (V2) in a demo and was blown away by its clarity, staging, and ethereal kind of sound. The V3s sound like they'll add a bit of punch, and the fact that they are more sensitive means I don't have to run out for a more powerful amp just yet. I might have to get this one to complement my Verite Closed and my old Hifiman HE-500.

I have an Arya "V2" (pre-stealh magnet) and running these on the iFi Micro iDSD Signature. Enjoying this set-up but also considering a desktop DAC and amp. Heard the stealth magnet revision and it sounded good. Considering this more of a side-grade of the Arya. Still prefer the "V2" sound as I found it more pleasurable to listen to. @PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
Glad you liked the review. As for the amp question, it's never so clear cut in my experience. Each amp brings its own character to the sound and that's as subjective as everything else in this hobby. With a well tuned headphone like the Arya, any amp will sound great so it then comes back to your preferences for your overall sound as to whether you prefer a warmer, richer amp or a more neutral / analytical sounding amp

@@PassionforSound Thanks for your informative reply. Any experience with the Violectric 280 FE? As far as I understand being an SSD amp it still has a warmth to it which means it can smooth out my Senn. HD800S spiky treble. I need something more than the analytical HD800S.. I am thinking about Focal Utopia or Hifiman Susvara.. and then again question is: Which amp will sooth both. For now I have Schiit Jotunheim (1). Whats your suggestion? I value your input very much. For closed back headphone I am thinking about Dan Clark Stealth.
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
I'd recommend checking my review of the Susvara to help with your headphone decision. As for amplifier, I'd recommend the Soloist 3XP from Burson Audio or the Singxer SA-1. The Violectric 280 is also likely a good choice, but I haven't heard it to be certain. I'd also think twice about the DCA Stealth and check some reviews before deciding. My review is coming soon, but I think there are better options for less money.

I see that in one of your post responses that you received the Arya Organic and the Ananda Nano. Hoping for a review in the near future. I would be curious on how these pair with the Chord Mojo 2 technically and sonically for portable use if this is included in your amp/dac comparison segment of the review. With the surprising lower impedances of these headphones it seems like a logical mating, technically anyway. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a mojo 2 perhaps. Heard a friend's Arya Stealth and was surprised by the wide soundstage compared to my current headphones that will now be considered an "intimate" soundstage in comparison! Thanks for all the great reviews.
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound Год назад
I probably won't specifically use the Mojo 2 in those reviews, but the Nano and Organic are both easy to drive so the Mojo 2 will definitely work well with them from a drivability point of view. After that, it's about tonality and I'll definitely discuss if either headphone needs a warmer or cooler source to sound its best
@FrankD263
@FrankD263 Год назад
Thank you for your kind response. Dedicated desktop units most of the time would be up to the task of driving these headphones quite well. My current Burson SL Soloist refuses to let me down to this day (letting the source unit dacs dictate the sonic signature). I know portable units may or not be up to the task. I am very much looking forward to your reviews since they always address the audio gear I always seem interested in, whether I can afford them or not :).

Amazing review Lachlan! I picked up the Arya a few days ago and thought your review was spot on. I do have a few questions though. Firstly, would you say the JDS Labs Element 3 amp/dac is suitably sufficient for the Aryas? To my ears, nothing seems to be lacking and the Aryas can be easily driven to deafening volumes but who knows, maybe they are held back in some ways? And lastly, if I was to upgrade past this point, do you think it would be better to enjoy the Aryas for a few years, save up and then splurge on the susvaras? Or try other headphones in between the price of the Arya and susvara? I guess what I’m trying to ask is, is the difference in performance between the Arya and other, more expensive headphones like the he1000 v2 enough to justify the price difference? I had the chance to demo the Arya alongside the Focal Clear, HD 800S, audeze mm-500 and also compare them to more mid-fi headphones like the Sundaras, and according to my perception, I felt that for headphones around the price Arya (and above); this was the point where the better headphone was more about your personal preference rather than technical performance. Sorry for the long comment.
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound Год назад
Hi Mike, glad you're enjoying the Aryas. Your current amp will do fine with them, but you will find that the Aryas have the technical capability to deliver more resolution, soundstage space and imaging accuracy when provided even better signals. It's not about power, but just the purity and quality of the signal from the DAC and the amp. So, my suggestion would be to upgrade the amp and DAC to see what's possible (I think you'll be impressed) and then decide what you want more of/less of before upgrading the headphones. Other headphones will be different to the Aryas (even other HiFiMan headphones) so it's not a case of getting "more Arya" if you spend more so much as deliberately looking for the elements you're seeking such as more bass, more space, more resolution, less treble, less bass, more mids, etc. I hope that all makes sense

Hi Lachlan! First off: yet another awesome review! Please keep up The good work. Secondly: It doesn’t hurt that you perceive the equipment that we’ve both used the (almost exact) same way I would describe them. So you’ve sort of been an extension of when I demo gear 😂 To the point where I actually (blindly) bought a pair of IEMs (Xelento gen 2) after you recommended them - and they’ve been great! Now I’m thinking about moving on up from IEMs to headphones, and the Aryas are too of mind. More specifically the Organic version. So to my questions (hopefully you’ll have time to read and answer, but would understand if you’ve got a lot on your plate): 1. Are you planning on reviewing the Organic? 2. Would the Mojo 2 be enough as a desktop setup or would the upscaling with say a dedicated amp be worthwhile? 3. If a separate amp is preferable, which one would you recommend for a complementary clean and detailed, but yet smooth (on the richer side) presentation (keeping the Mojo as the DAC in the chain)? I’m not averse to building an tube amp, so if that’s an option I’d be up for it. The price range I’m thinks is around 1500-2000$ range. Thanks in advance and please keep up the awesome work mate!!

Arya So sorry I missed your comment Lachlan and the question from Hristo. This Arya stealth magnet is my 2nd planar, first being the Sundara. First impressions are that it is very comfortable and well made. However, I can’t get it to fit me exactly, one click too little or more and it’s too little or too much. Maybe I am just not used to this ear-cup shape. I listen from Apple lossless as well as my own collections of FLAC and DSD files. The Arya is hooked up via 4.4mm to the Topping D90SE and A90 so I listen more attentively to answer your questions. The HP sounds are clean and balanced. Sound stage is wide with good imaging. I feel I am immersed and involved, there’s excitement and energy. Arya has adequately balanced bass, mid and treble so I get what the song is supposed to be ie. If I play a bassy/punchy/vocal song, I get the bass/punch/clear vocals and it sounds like how it should from the DAC and amps I use. With King in My Empire by Rhythm & Sound, I get the sub, the vibration and the very clear voice of the vocalist (all vocalists’ voices are with this Arya). So yes, Spanish Harlem by Rebecca Pidgeon must play too. With Jazz Variants from O-Zone Percussion Group, I get the drum hits and every instrument has its place, not mashed together like others. Tracy Chapman’s Give Me A Reason and Fast Car are delightful, staging and imaging all sounds great to me, as do the vocals of Chinese and Korean songs I listen to. Playing Tears In Heaven Acoustic Live by Eric Clapton feels just that, I’m live in the concert “auditorily”. I played and watch this and other live performances on RU-vid with the uploads and now, I really am in the concert, with only a tad of details lost. With some of favorites, I get goosebumps. I listen to a variety so Wanna Be Starting Somethin’ and The Way You Make Me Feel by MJ, Snoop’s The Next Episode punches for me. Joe Cocker’s You Are So Beautiful reminds me of falling in love. All said, I prefer listening on the iFi Zen DAC V2 either directly or RCA to A90 because I like the sound better so now I played The Four Seasons, Violin Concerto by Vivaldi. It’s 2.30am local time now so one last song with Sing! China’s competitor with his rendition of Goodbye My Lover by James Blunt. I am not a audiophile and am not technical, just love music of different genres. I hope what I’ve written makes sense and is useful for you. I recommend this headphone at this price point, I bought it for about USD1,300.

Starting from scratch with a £3500 budget, in your opinion - what would be the best use of the funds to get the best possible sound? From my research so far - I'm thinking: Denafrips Ares II > Burson Soloist 3X > Hifiman Arya (plus some balanced cables). But is that the best way to split my budget? Maybe I should spend more on the headphones and less on the DAC and amp (or vice versa 🤯)?? I'm looking for a natural, organic, live sound. Erring on the side of warm/rich (but still clean). Big deep soundstage. Really engaging, musical and evoking. I'm less focused on analytical/reference level detail retrieval. Punch/slam would be nice but not important. I want to avoid a shrill, metallic or flat signature. I suppose I want to feel like I'm at a live performances, rather than analysing a recording in a studio - particularly with singer/songwriter acoustic, folk and jazz. Thanks for your help. 👍

I'd personally go for the Bifrost 2 or the Chord Qutest (if budget allows) while keeping everything else intact in your plan. The Ares II can be a little soft on the transients and can take the excitement out of the music. The Bifrost 2 and Qutest even more will give a good balance between the lifelike, spacious and full sound while keeping the attack in the music.

@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
I know, it's nuts isn't it with all the different opinions. To be clear, minor and significant are different as I've used them here. Minor means it's not a huge leap. Significant means it's enough to make a difference. So to answer your question from my perspective, it's a relatively subtle change in frequency response and general presentation of the sound, but it's resulting in a shift that's significant enough to consider the 2020 and 2021 models to be discernibly different. As for the differences between reviewers, that's where I think comparisons are so important as they ground those sorts of statements in some context. After conducting direct comparisons between multiple headphones and the 2021 Aryas, I think maybe the soundstage could be a touch narrower than the 2020 version, but it's a better resolved soundstage with more depth and therefore, to me, a greater sense of space (including width and depth)

Thanks again, you have this rare talent to make videos "dance". Seems like the Arya stealth is getting a lot of criticism for its almost below average soundstage, which is the opposite of the original. Did you experience the same, and did that experience change over time with break-in? What is your take about the source of these impressions? Is it related to the bass increase, or increase of dynamics? Is it a "false" impression, if such a thing exist, due to smoother FR? Many thanks!
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
Hi Astro, so glad you like the way my content is delivered! I think those impressions might be comimg from a couple of factors. Firstly, burn-in is real on these. I didn't much care for them out of the box and it took a solid one or two weeks of on-and-off listening before they started to impress. Brain burn-in is a thing too, but that's normally about frequency response rather than the subtleties that changed with the Aryas like soundstage size, sense of dynamics and transient quality, etc. I think the other factor involved could be the amps used for testing. Josh Valour is commonly cited as an alternate opinion to mine and I know he uses a Topping A90 as his daily driver (based on a relatively recent video at least). The A90 flattens the soundstage depth and makes soundstage width more important because it's the only sense of scale available once depth is essentially removed (at least drastically reduced). If the Arya V2 is a bit wider, which it might be, then that would come through more on an A90 or similar amp. When you put the V3 on an amp with width and depth like the Soloist, Sparkos Aries, etc. you can definitely notice the greater sense of overall space around notes from the V3 because you're now operating in a more 3D space than 2D. That's my theory on the differences and might be a good guide for those considering both - i.e. what are you pairing them with and do you value width more than depth?
@ranelime
@ranelime 2 года назад
@@PassionforSound Arya stealth it is then! Seems like a lot of similar opinions about the A90 are popping everywhere recently and catching up to your initial evaluation a while a go. I personally wouldn't bother upgrading the headphones if you're keeping the sources at that level. My recommendation is normally to match each part of the chain by tier so mid-tier cans with mid-tier source chain. The Zen gear is quality entry-level gear as far as I understand (I haven't yet been able to try it) so you might get modest improvements with the Arya over the Ananda, but you'd be far from hearing their true potential and therefore wasting some money IMO

@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
Burn-in is a big factor on these and something I'm kicking myself for not covering in the review. I'm also thinking that amp pairings are playing into this a lot too because amps like the Topping A90, etc. will flatten the soundstage and make width more important because there's no real depth. It's the sense of depth that sets the V3 apart IMO so if that's limited by the amp, I can understand people being disappointed.

They're definitely on different levels. Both have similar soundstage width, but the Arya offers better depth in the soundstage. To get the best out of EQ you maybe should use the waterfall plot. It will show you why something that should be flat doesn't sound quite sound flat and therefore you can adjust accordingly however if you're good with EQ you can do it all by ear.

I feel like the stealth magnet version is just slightly more transparent even with the EQ applied because there's a tonal quality from the non-stealth driver that EQ can't remove and it will have a small impact on transparency and our ability to hear fine details. I'm, upgrading from Sundara using Motu M2 as a DAC and Topping L30 (not Topping L30 II) as an amp. Do you have experience using these headphones with that amp? Hi John, I haven't specifically tried that combo, but the L30 should be absolutely fine with the Arya. Statements of its need for power are vastly exaggerated and the L30 is a great little amp. I just returned the V3 after a week with them I own the V2 and the focal clears. The V3 in my opinion now are more comparable to the clears in terms of soundstage a drastic reduction from the V2. But the Clears images better and makes better use of its space the V3 has a warmer better mid range than the thinner sounding Clears but Clears have better slam although the V3 improves the bass over the V2. I didn't notice any sibalance with the V3 but after doing a a n b comparison with the V2 the V3 although more dynamic just felt more boxed in not much space to breathe. In comparison to the clears although a small soundstage it never felt i was in a box or closet I got a 180 effect with instruments seperation and imaging with the V2 left n right and just behind my ears sometimes a weird imaging profile witch I didn't enjoy . You do get more detail in the midrange but it's not enough for me to sell my V2 when I have the clears also. If the V3 had alittle more holographic effect and more space it would be a perfect headphone 🎧 but when sometimes it felt like almost HD600 closed in sometimes it didn't made me uneasy about keeping these.

The v3's really needed more time than one week to open up, IMO. All versions of the Arya need substantial time to burn in. After about ~50 hours of pink noise and music they will have 'just' started to loosen up/open up. My v3's now (~60 hrs in) rival the v2's in sound-staging, space, width/depth, imaging, and layering. @PassionforSound 2 года назад
Having heard all of these headphones, the one I would reach for every single time would be the new Arya. I don't really get the people saying the soundstage is smaller on the new one because the sense of space between sounds is much stronger. I'm starting to wonder if they've been listening with amps like the Topping A90 which flatten the soundstage and make it all about width and no depth - that could negate the benefits of the new model I guess. In brief and therefore slightly unfair / too simplistic terms, the reasons I'd choose the new Arya over the others are: HD800S lacks bass and doesn't suit all genres Clear is excellent, but the treble can be too metallic and bright at times Original Arya has tonality that's a bit off and can get distracting, plus it's a bit edgy in the treble. EQ is fine, but it won't fix everything as I discussed in this review. It can't fix the treble quality on the Clears and the HD800S will always have a dryness to the mids and treble regardless of EQ. They're still great headphones, but the new Arya (to me) is a real winner

@@PassionforSound Yeah I'm actually now reconsidering the verity of impressions stating that the soundstage is reduced, because their descriptions can conceivably be attributed to poor volume matching (Drastically improved dynamics, resolution, and the impression that sounds are closer could, to some extent, be a result of a person not accounting for the v3's increased sensitivity + decreased impedance). I also recently saw that Resolve had posted his initial impressions of the v3, and they seem far more in line with your impression than they do with the early head-fi impressions. From previous experience, his impressions/opinions match my own far more often than any other reviewer, and he makes an active effort to hedge against his biases. Even the head-fi forum has seen more disagreement recently with the notion that soundstage is a step back.

Thanks for the great review. I do have a Arya V2 in combo with a Questyle CMA 600i and a Forza Audio Noir Hybrid balanced headphone cable. If I would use your EQ settings in roon's Parametric eq section. Would you recommend that or would you stick to the sound without the EQ settings? Would you consider yourself to upgrade for the Stealth or would you stick with the V2 version like I have? In other words would you go yourself for the V2 (with EQ) or the Stealth if you were mine? PS: most of the time I listen to jazz, smoothjazz and soul music. Cheers Fonz
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
Hi Fonz, I'm personally not a big EQ user because it does degrade sound quality slightly (it introduces phase issues and potentially other artefacts from the processing required). I think the best approach is to decide if you're happy with the V2 as is. If you're enjoying your setup, stick with it. If you find the treble gets too sharp or aggressive then you might want to swap to the V3.
@DJTHEFONZ

@@PassionforSound So you do not recommend to use the EQ settings you showed in your review above? Concerning the bass, is it true that the stealth has more mid-bass but less deep/sub bass? It also has more mid-tones , less high but a cleaner high as the V2. Also the position of the instruments is better on the Stealth but with less space. Is this the correct resume? The stealth version has more bass (slightly) across the whole range and less treble peaks. The main treble peak is reduced and the secondary, higher treble peak is basically gone. I definitely agree with your summary of imaging / sound placement - they're better resolved in space with a better sense of separation from other sounds, but the overall stage might be a touch smaller in width (but better in depth I think)

Calling the Arya Stealth the Arya 2021 is going to cause issues. My Arya V2 (pad change) is 2021 NON stealth. Funny enough the arya og/v2 vs Stealth comparisons, My Arya 2021 NON Stealth matches closer to the Stealth 2021 comparisons than the OG/V2 to the point I had to get a stealth. My V2 keeps up for bass & falls slightly behind in treble detail. The only noticeable change after breaking it in was the soundstage & layering.... My V2 2021: soundstage became (slightly) a better way to put it more "FILLED IN" when broken in, Stealth 2021 became (slightly) larger or open more in line with my V2 2021.

Great review! I have the Arya v2 and you got me very tempted to get the stealth magnet version now. For me the only problems with the Arya v2 have been the (sometimes) harsh treble and the slight lack in dynamics. I would be interested to know how the stealth magnet Arya compares with the HEDDphone, which I also own. The HEDDphone has details for days, a pretty non-fatiguing treble with a quite forward midrange, but also lacks in dynamics and the bass doesn't extend as deep as with the Arya. It also doesn't come close to the soundstage height, that the Arya produces. How was the soundstage height in the stealth magnet Arya vs the v2? Thanks!
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
Hi Anton, I'm yet to try a HEDDphone so I can't compare there, but the dynamics and overall signature qualities are much stronger from the V3 IMO. Image placement is more clearly resolved in all directions/dimensions and the sense of space between sounds is better too even if the overall stage width is slightly less in the V3
@antonristo1096
@antonristo1096 2 года назад
@@PassionforSound Thanks for the reply! The stealth Arya really sounds like a winner, but I was specifically wondering about the stage height. Since I feel that the Arya v2 has this amazing and unique quality to make the sound vast, not only in width but also in height (the Y-axis). It wouldn't bother me as much, if the stage width was to diminish a little, if the sound was still even somewhat uniquely high, which I love about the Arya v2. Btw, sorry if I'm repeating myself here!
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
No problems, Anton. I kind of dodged the specifics of stage height a bit because I've never found it to be a characteristic that's been clear to me in headphones. I think of headstage along the left/right and front/back axes. I do notice the ability of the headphone to position things correctly in vertical space (e.g. is the singer positioned higher than a snare), but I haven't previously gauged maximum height of a soundstage. Let me go back and see if I can provide some clarity for you on the Arya's vertical capabilities.
@antonristo1096
@antonristo1096 2 года назад
@@PassionforSound Ahh, I see. Now that I think about it, it could just be that the sound itself is taller with the Arya v2, if that makes sense. I mean that I'm not sure, if the instruments are actually placed differently in the vertical axis, but that there's something with the Arya v2 that somehow makes the sound feel much taller/bigger than with any other headphones (at least the ones that I have tried so far). It could just be because of the huge cups and those should make the sound big with the stealth magnet version as well, even if the stage isn't as wide with them. But I'd greatly appreciate, if you could try and hear any differences in the height of the sound between the two versions!
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
I don't have the V2 here anymore because they were on loan, but I did some listening last night with some tracks that provide good height cues (based on some internet searches) and the Arya V3 performed as well or maybe better than the Meze Elite for vertical size. It's a shame I can't specifically check this aspect of the V2 for you in comparison, but the V3 did a good job with height IMO. The upper most cues were probably in line with the top of my head while normal sounds were at eye/ear level.

Empyrean is definitely one of the most controversial flagship headphones out there. The only thing every reviewer seems to agree is that they have a warm bassy sound signature. Crinacle, Golden Sound and Andrew from The Headphone Show /Resolve Reviews did not really like the Empyrean Golden Sound even made the caustic comment: "Built as a 6000$ headphone but sounds like a 1000$ one and sells for 3500$" Joshua Valour had only a mild appreciation for Empyrean and similar was the reaction of DMS The only three major reviewers who seemed to really like the Empyrean were you, The Honest Audiophile and Darko Audio. It is amazing how one headphone evokes such polarising reactions. No headphone will be liked by everyone but the polarising reactions on Empyrean are a whole another level.
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
That's very true. I've noticed that the people you've listed who don't like them tend to have specific targets they want each headphone to perform to and the Empy is way off that target. I think the other factor is the expectations people have of expensive headphones and it often revolves are detail retrieval and sense of clarity. The Empy does well there, but it's not top tier. Instead it's lots of fun and I think people like Darko and I are more open to each product for what it does well and less emphasis on one particular standard for all products. This isn't to say I'm right and everyone else is wrong - it's just about finding reviewers that you can consistently relate to (either agree or disagree, but with a sense of consistency)

Unfortunately I see that Bifrost 2 is not available anywhere in Europe. I am quite sensitive to stinging high tones, I wonder what will round and soften the top and allow for dynamic, dense and low-reaching bass, and at the same time allow for a large space, detailed "analog" fluid sound without muddying the sound. Will the DAC SMSL M500 Mk3 with its built-in amplifier allow Arya to spread its wings quite nicely, or will adding SA-1 significantly affect the quality? I want to buy Arya v3 because their price has dropped significantly now, but I'm also a little afraid because I've heard opinions that some people find them quite sharp in the treble (although this may often be a matter of an incorrectly selected DAC or AMP). @@PassionforSound Yes, I decided to put things on hold and keep the Arya Stealth for the moment (I chose it as a compromise before go for an endgame TOTL, mainly for it's forwardness and clarity, knowing that the soundstage was adequate but not optimal). I will skip the HE1000v2 because it doesn't have the stealth magnets tech and I will save for a potential Susvara, which seems to be the best to unite performance and enjoyment in the same package. I haven't tried the Susvara yet but I tried the LCD5 (balanced and efficient but lack of excitment), the SR1A (amazing soundstage but bass light), the Utopia (almost perfect but small soundstage) and still, I chose the Arya Stealth as a good all arounder. I'll keep an eye on the upcoming Raal circumaural headphone in the meantime. BTW, you suggested me before to go for the Elite (which seems also to reunite performance and enjoyment) but, for that kind of money, I think I would prefer to go for the Susvara instead (maybe one day....) :)

Glad you've settled on a strategy. Good luck in your savings for a Susvara or Elite!

Really good review. How it should be. Interesting comparisons. I wanted to get Arya but went with he6se v2. Spent aus$ from adorama $800 with delivery with $80 sheep skin pads and $270 audeze headband modification. Using singxer sa 1 with bifrost 2 with chord shawline xlr setup. These are just amazing. Now I really want yo compare arya with he6se :$

Sounds like you've got yourself a pretty killer setup! I'm keen to try the HE-6SE too at some point.

I tried the He6se v2 on bifrost 2/jotunheim 2 with open grill mod and also with sundara pads. Couldn’t get them to sound better to my ears than my Sundaras. Sounded muffled and veiled by comparison. Probably needed to be burned in more but decided it wasn’t for me.
@urbenkam
@urbenkam 2 года назад
@@Reeeepicheep I have Sundara. There is no comparison. It’s that obvious. The only thing Sundara might have is the sound stage. Burn in for atleast 50 hours. Use all the way xlr no rca and with high gain. I love singxer sa 1 but heard good things about jolethnam. Also try deeper pads with he6se i am using dekhoni sheep skin pads
@Reeeepicheep
@Reeeepicheep 2 года назад
@@urbenkam Ran fully balanced with Audioquest XLR Water cables. Worth noting I have the latest Sundara and I have Oratory1990 diffuse field EQ on them which I love and really takes it to another level. There wasn’t an EQ preset for the he6sev2 that I could find. I think Class A helps that headphone and also burn in but I had returned it after the first day because my Sundaras sounded great out of the box and figured I’d go for an Elex instead and save for an Arya as my flagship.

@@Reeeepicheep i am glad you found the system synergy with your setup. Sundara are beautiful sounding light headphones. I ghink i will be selling my old version sundara snd hd660s. I am fully contended with he6sev2.

Hi. I think you heard the upcoming Meze 109 at the expo. Do they come close to the Ayra Stealth? Which would you prefer? Thanks in advance. Cheers
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
That's a very tough call. I'd need to spend more time with the finished version of the 109s, but I think the Arya stealth might win out
@razuu

@@PassionforSound Should be close? Plus the 109 will be cheaper. I like the prototype look. Thanks again
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
I'm not sure it will be close as they have different drivers and different tunings. They'll be close in some ways and not in others so I'd hate to get your hopes up based on an indirect and incomplete comparison

@@PassionforSound Thanks. Looking to compliment and in between my Senn 800s and Focal Radiance. Something like the 800s without the harsh highs and more bass. The Radiance is great for Rock and Pop music, has lots of bass and warm mids. I think the Ayra Stealth wouldfit the bill?
@PassionforSound
@PassionforSound 2 года назад
I think the Arya stealth could be a nice fit for sure. I might have another option coming up for review soon too. It's a bit cheaper, but it sounds great so far. If you're not in a hurry, maybe wait for my review of the HarmonicDyne G200. I need to do a bit more testing and compare with the Arya before I can be certain enough to recommend it

@Passion for Sound Would you be happy to pay AU$2000 for these if you were in the market for an upper mid-fi headphone? If not, what would be your pick for what is available in Australia in this range? I am happy to keep my LCD-2 for stuff like Tool and Mutemath, but I really want a different presentation particularly for tracks like Hollywood from Nick Cave and that sort of style. I didn't like the Focal Clear for the metallic sheen.

I definitely think these are worth that. I'd take these or the ZMF Auteurs as my top choices at the price (depending on what you're after sonically).

@PassionforSound hey, would you be able to share an opinion please? I am torn between getting the arya stealth v3, or the new ananda nano. There have been no comparisons between these two that I have found. The price of a refurbished arya stealth is pretty much the same as a new nano. What would you say, having tested all of them? Cheers, great video
