Doing a destructive test on these phones would restore people's confidence on the design. Back up your calculations by pushing as many volts between the driver plate and a dummy head and measuring where the insulation breaks down.

I could hear the voltage leak on this video....it sounds similar to the smacking of lips....

Reposted due to repost from Hifiman: Thank you for the video. All I asked was for Hifiman to go over the unit to make sure there is no problems and they seem to have done that. - thank you Few correction with the video: 1. As I repeatedly stated, it was not a shock but feeling of a voltage leak. 2. The unit was not borrowed but purchased A video of a teardown of my unit was promised but this video seems to basically summarize why there is "little chance" this can happen. Which is disappointing but as long as it is a rare phenomenon and the community is aware. That is fine by me. Thank you Hifiman.

You do realise the "feeling" of a voltage leak is the same feeling as an electric shock since an electric shock is a current running down a voltage gradient from a point of higher voltage (the headphones) to a point of lower voltage (your body)?

@@jonathanjones3682 my apologies. I only meant to convey that it wasnt like a ZAP. Like those new fly killing electrical rackets

Unacceptable answer IMHO, you aren't the only one, I no longer own mine as they made me fear shock was imminent, it felt as if something was charging up and would make my ears pop and tingle, instead of showing us how it works they are giving us smoke and mirrors

@@Jayiyagi they don't output enough current (on bias or on signal trace) to shock you and while voltage is high on bias pin it is not even high enough to jump to the other stators or you would get arcing which would destroy the diaphragm yet alone from there jump across air again after all the voltage loss jumping to the stator across air which is high resistance then past more air and foam and a painted mesh which also all have resistance and somehow magically multiply it's amperage by 10fold so you can remotely feel it and make it through your ear which also has resistance. You are full of shit. When I found out it was you who spread this misinfo I unsubscribed and hope others did the same cause lying for a publicity stunt is unexcusable.

They removed the first half of the original video... Probably should’ve implemented some quality control before uploading the original video.

Typically 30kv can jump one centimeter. I can feel that at 1kv there is no electrical shock chance but I would enjoy to see the video where they test that plate with 40kv and have it not arc. Keep in mind that 40kv of static will not kill you. It will make you jump, it might even make a small brown dot on your skin where the arc made contact but there is no real medical concern. Don't misunderstand my comment, I believe these are 100% safe and would buy a pair tomorrow but the one comment about that little plate handling up to 40kv without an arc I find hard to believe. I've been making Tesla coils, Jacob's Ladders, Van De Graaff generators and Marx generators for decades now.

It's the volts that jolts, but it's the mills that kills. Luckily electrostatic headphones transform almost all of the signal into voltage leaving very little amperage to kill you.

Not only does HIFIMAN have poor customer support, but they also can’t handle a little criticism! They reuploaded this video to hide the backlash. Sad!

And I bet you are somehow related to this company, since you wont stop supporting generally bad customer service. If you continue to keep coming up with these bullshit excuses instead of helping to solve the problem, you are becoming a problem yourself. The way you are currently acting is one of the reasons why companies ignore comments from customers that spent money on their products. Unless you have concrete evidence that this product isnt defective (and that this company isnt just trying to cover this problem up), get your head out of your ass and use your two brain cells because if this is an actual problem, many more people can get hurt because of this mistake.
@phototristan
@phototristan 5 лет назад
PsychoticMind Nope. I hate Hifi Man actually, their quality control totally sucks. I just recognize and call out a troll when I see one. People like you can’t handle reality, like the evidences already being supplied right here for example. Or the fact the guy stated the headphones tried to kill him yet there was no shock... Obviously if I was somehow associated with the company I would’ve done at least a single video on my channel covering their products. Logic fails you.
@psychoticmind7033
@psychoticmind7033 5 лет назад
@@phototristanWhen you get your head out of your ass, reality isnt as simple as you put it. How would you know that this product wasnt fixed and reviewed after?You can talk the talk but the fact that you continuously support a company you said you "hate" without concrete evidence that is not from the accused speaks a lot about your personality. The guy you mentioned also didnt say that the headphones tried to kill him, that it was only a shock (i can link the part in the video if you want).I just saying that you have to fully understand both sides (you know, actually watch videos from both sides) in order to have a proper opinion. You said you hate their company, but it seems like all you are doing is defending this company that you hate, since you are only blaming the victim.

Mediahound A simple background check would tell you these guys that accused the headphones of such issues, have a history of reviewing high end audio gear & I can guarantee they know what they’re doing. For you to have a comment like that, is what I find odd, and is what psychoticmind probably does too. No reason to go blame the user if the product is at flaw, you should be asking/commenting on why did it take so long to produce a video on such issues or why did they re-upload? These guys get no benefit from talking shit on a headphone or a company, they are trying to be honest & upright (they are reviewers) if you can’t handle that or comprehend that, that’s on you to fix/learn. Products can have mistakes/issues/defects.... as you said poor quality control lol, if someone calls that out it ain’t a being troll, it’s the truth.
