Finally the Susvara's getting some love. Maybe the lack of reviews on this unit is because of price, but when I tried them out it blew my mind - end game. Has looks, comfort and sound quality to worthy of an end-game headphone. $6000 USD is steep. If you smart shop, negotiate with dealers you can get it in range of the other high-end cans.

the only heeadphone i have ever tried, that gave me actual goosebumps. Can't get myself to spend that kind of money for a hifiman though, but I alrdy went 6x to the dealer to listen to it and i bet he feels like an angler, when the fish is nibbling - weird feeling on my part to be honest. The funny thing is, that i would not have thought, that the difference to the Arya would be quite so steep. One is a very, very, very good Headphone, that is doing evrything right, the other one is like pouring liquid sound magic directly into your acoustic center. And yes it is very comfy.

Your review is spot on. I tried the susvara at canjam last year. I loved it, but after I got the hedd audio headphone, I felt like they were similar, not neccessary the same, but I felt like the hedd is a pretty darn good deal especially for its price. I also got the d8000 pro and it doesn't sound as revealing as the heddphone, so I can confidently say that the d8000 pro isn't as resolving as the susvara. As far as closed I still didn't hear a headphone that is better than the Sony mdr z1r, and that includes the stellia. I hope that you try to review it soon.

@@hifix-man319 I disagree. It's incredibly detailed. It has it's own tonality and feel to it which is unique mature and natural. It just sounds ethereal in away, everything is there to hear. Just like in real life performances. The subtle details are there but you must listen to them. Unlike let's say stax l700, hd800 or t1 gen 2,( all of which I have ),which shouts those details at you relentlessly, it sounds like its detailed and yes it is. But it's not natural at all. In real life you don't hear subtle details louder than or close to as loud as main instruments. They are called subtle for a reason. As for resolution they are flawless or as near to flawless a closed back can get. And believe me I own more than 40 headphones now or even more maybe lol, I need to stop this bad habit. Out of these headphones the hedd audio headphone and the sony z1r are my favorite without a shred of doubt. I would love to add the susvara to my collection cause that could be a fitting conclusion to my journey.

Slam and punch seems to be missing from the high end phones I've tried. I'm still working with the LCD-5's to get it where I would like. I guess I got used to Focal Clear MG's, Stellia's, and Arya stealths even have more punch and slam. Why don't the higher end headphones give you the attack in the bass drum and bass? Maybe I need to use a different DAC / AMP? Maybe the Arya organics might fit better with what I need? Even the DT1990 and DT1770 pros seem more pleasing in the lower end. I would even say more accurate in the bottom. Being a drummer and musician I need to feel the attack of those instruments. Maybe I'm just missing something? I'm using the newer RME 2/4. I hope to dial in the LCD-5's and don't want to give up on those. I know they are great but...

I forgot to mention that there was a bit of creaking and even "clicking" where the headband yoke connects to the earcups. It seems like the part that slots inside the earcups is rubbing against the internal wiring and the outer parts of the driver. I cut tiny pieces of fabric and fitted it so that the part that articulates doesn't rub against anything that would make it creak. It was bad enough that if I just move a little bit with the headphones on, I would get a bit of creaking or a "click".

I just got a Utopia and at first it was headache inducing because it shoves the sound right in your face. @TheHEADPHONEShow 4 года назад
I was less impressed with the raal than many of its proponents are. Like for stage and space it's amazing - I just wasn't 100% convinced for its detail capability. Still, it's got a unique fit, so I'd have to evaluate it at home to get a proper sense. Probably more of a speaker type of sound than a headphone sound, and that may be what threw me off.

I currently own the Arya and I love its soundstage imagine and tonality, pretty much everything about the Arya is perfect for me except the 6k peak which I tone down using the hardware EQ in the RME ADI-2. I've been eyeing the Susvara for a while now, how much better is it really compared to the Arya, money is no issue to me but 6 grand is still quite steep investment for a pair of headphones, anyone who owns/owned both can tell me whether the upgrade is worth it?
@saadi703

I have both. Upgrade was definitely worth it for me. It is quite a bit step up in terms of tonality, detail retrieval, dynamics and slam. Whether it is worth it for you is up to you to decide. I heard the 007 & 009 along with the Susvara but that was way back at AXPONA '18 & was looking forward to hearing them again but of course 2020 got delayed. It's pretty crazy how fast the Susvara is though it's not quite e-stat fast iirc, but they're also so fast that it can be unnatural sometimes (at least with the 009.)
@TheHEADPHONEShow
@TheHEADPHONEShow 4 года назад
I've heard a few estats, namely Sr-009, Sr-007, L700, and Shangri La Sr. My take is that they have a very unique type of sound to them. Almost like an 'effortless' quality for lack of a better term. But I'm also not 100% sure that's the same as what I'm describing here for detail. It might be that, but there's also a kind of lean character to them that makes me unsure where to place it. Out of all of those, the most 'open' and detailed sounding headphone was the shangri La Sr., but I think my favorite was the SR-007 2.9. My more realistic budget constraints would probably have me going for that headphone system as an end game setup haha.

@@tgdxdrakoon7019 I haven't had a chance to review the shangri-la yet (I have heard it at CanJam). I think it comes down to whether you want a planar sound or an estat sound. They're both excellent. Yeah I honestly don't know about that. I'd have to have them in house to review, but at the moment I think I'd give the edge to the Susvara, depending on the source equipment. Estats have a very specific type of sound, and I'm not sure how much of that is strictly 'detail'. @LS Vygotsky You obviously do whatever you want with your cans, i didn't tell you go buy $15K amp but i have compared a certain number of amps with the Susvara and the best results we got was with a 25w class A amp directly pluged in speaker taps. But a good Chord Hugo TT2 can aleardy do a very good job with Susvara. I drive my HE1000se with a TT2 but HE1000se is easy to drive compared to Susvara. Try to be cool man and enjoy your gear.

I run my Susvara from topping A90 and it runs the Susvara easily where I don’t have to go past 12 o clock ever on high gain. The synergy is good as well and I really enjoy Susvara from A90. There are no compression issues or anything that some people are referring to with A90 and I fully enjoy Susvara on A90. I also have Fluxlab FA-10 amp as well which is way more powerful as well but I prefer A90 over that since FA-10 is very colored sound with less detailed treble. The treble seems rolled off.

$6k unit - "for the build quality this is better than what I was expecting". Haha. Maybe mention that you are saying this in the context of overall bad Hifiman build quality. Otherwise for $6k one should not expect anything less than 100-year warranty and tank build quality. :)
@TheHEADPHONEShow
@TheHEADPHONEShow 4 года назад
That reputation comes mostly from the HE-400i series and doesn't apply to the higher end stuff (from what I can tell). Believe it or not, I'm also told that RMA rates for Hifiman products are quite low these days in general and from my own personal experience I've also never had a problem - but I do know there have been issues in the past, so that's why I say it's surprising how solid it feels.

So like, from an engineering standpoint, it's difficult to make headphones this inefficient. The amount of work that went into making them so hard to drive is disingenuous at best. It's approaching the realm of snake oil as their is no verifiable benefit to a sensitivity so low. I also take issue with plastic parts and pleather pads at this price point. Obviously this isn't meant to be a value king but at least give us 6$ manufacturing upgrades if you're going to charge so much.

@Hari-kx2er 2 года назад
I agree about the build quality. However, I don't know what Hifiman gains by 'intentionally' making this too hard to drive. The too low sensitivity of these headphones only means that the potential user has to invest at least a couple of thousand dollars more into buying a quality Dac and more importantly a speaker class amplifier. Such a scenario only detracts potential buyers and gives no monetary benefits to Hifiman.
