To get that dynamic punch in the bass and dynamics in general, as well as liven (and widen) up the soundstage, you need a speaker amp to drive it.

@@DirectorsGarage 8w at how many ohms? Amplifier performance is not steady across its power range. You dont need a ton of power for sus, but you do need enough control over the large swings. Most amps as they reach deeper towards their max ratings loose a low of slew rate and start to distort like crazy. this is not something consistent throughout the Fr either with bass often slewing worse and distorting more compaited to mids and trebble. Even when properly amped sus won't kick like 1266 but its certainly not something I would ever call lacking in bass kick either.

@@eskamobob8662 I have the Elite edition with black caps and a whole bunch of stuff I don't understand. This amp was the recommended amp for the Abyss 1266 until the WA33, and they ranked this amp 2nd in their latest amp recommendations to the WA33. The Susvara just doesn't slam like the Abyss and Utopia. It's not a massive flaw or anything. I just wish they had that kind of impact in the bass. To my ears, the Susvara has dynamic impact higher in the frequency range. There is plenty of bass presence down into the sub base.

Edit: you use wa5le? I missed the mention in the video but remembered you have one. I havent used it myself with sus so I cant comment on it directly. The rest of my comment does stand though. If you are talking about formula S, that just doesn't have the power for propper dynamics on sus tbh. @@DirectorsGarage susvara require 50% more current and almost 2x the voltage of 1266 for the same spl. Tt2 certainly runs sus well, but more (well controlled) power will open up sus even further. Tbh you should hit uo ferrum to try and get a review unit of the oor. That gave sus plenty of slam and control while also doing utopia well as well imo. I'm also more than happy to lend you my 13r to play with if you want (tried to find a way to pm you to offer to no sucess)

It might be an odd thought but it would be interesting to hear your comparison of details etc of the Susvara vs the Anole VX iem. Might be interesting. The Anole VX is also far less expensive but still pricey for an iem.

Its not even vaugeky close tbh. The tuning is surprisingly similar (vx have a bit lusher mids) but sus truly is just several tiers ahead in every technicality (be it detail, stage, seperation, timbre, or litteraly just anything)

The way you describe the Susvara makes me think that the Hifiman HE1000se is probably the best headphone in the world - probably close to the Susvara in technicalities but also so fun to listen to (I keep a Utopia as well for its intimate presentation, punch and slam).

@@piotrosinski-petestradamus6204 Were you describing the HEKse there? I don't know what the Susvara sounds like but my HEKse sounds the opposite of my Utopia in terms of soundstage - spacious, open, transparent. The Utopia puts me right inside the recording whereas the HEKse puts me in a room where I'm surrounded by fantastic speakers. It's not diffuse sound though so the soundstage does not appear artificially huge, like the HD800, but it gets as big as it needs to when the recording requires it, and the depth and 3D presentation of sound are beautiful (the Arya, for example, sounds 2-dimensional in comparison).

@@MistaLova-Lova don't get me wrong. I loved my he1kse. I wish I didn't sell it. But compared to the Susvara. It did have a more closed in sound. Similar to Utopia. But it definitely has a bigger stage.

I love my he1000se ... In fact I chose it over the susvara when buying , for a few reasons ... The pads on the hekse, for my head , is WAAAAY more comfortable , in the sense that my ears don't touch ANYTHING on the inside , so when I'm listening to music , the headphones disappear and I get a proper sense that the sounds are around me , without knowing that they're coming from something on or over my ears... I feel like this is important for me since my ears are sensitive ... Didn't get that at all with the sus... And another big reason for me was driveability , the hekse can be driven with far less powerful Amps .. For me the slam from the hekse was better , the vocals a little closer , but the width seems wider , and I prefer it. The sus Definitely is smoother and the stage seems a few rows away from me in comparison. The tonal balance however can be matched on the hekse when using eq properly , so the gap even closes more, when eq is utilized Hekse ftw ... My favourite headphone I have ever heard/owned/own

I run them through either the Hugo TT direct or the 8W Woo Audio WA5LE. They just don't slam like the Focal or Abyss. Not a flaw, just a wish.

@@bak2mb they may make some sound, but it won’t likely impress. The Susvara is a power hungry headphone. You’d want a Hugo2 TT, at the very least, as a starting point.
