I love how you spend the time to set up both the photography and build the attack plan before line hits water.

Thank you. We had a year long want to just wander about trout streams, no matter if there were 1 or 100 fish... just go for a walk and immerse into the landscape and capture the essence of sense of place. And wind and weather is always a strong part of it all :)

Fascinating analysis of the movements and habits of feeding fish. Beautiful filming too, especially the dusk to dawn timelapse. Thanks guys.

I don't know ANY other fly fishers who can read the water as well as you two. Your fly fishing is wonderfully intentional.
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 3 месяца назад
Thank you for that - for those paying attention, our channel is really about trout behaviour, the why a trout is where it is when. Once you get that, trout fishing isn't exactly rocket science. Capturing the beauty around it all is the call to our why and our passion and the more recent videos are reflecting what we've long wanted to produce & share. It takes time :)

I am still very grateful for you both. You have certainly helped my fly fishing by being more intentional. Also, the McClean weigh net was a necessary game-changer. With about 1500 trout landed and with no signs of issues and keeping fishermen honest on the water, namely myself, thank you so much for that gem. I think about you both and am thankful with each fish in the net. Amazing content as always. Why not millions of subs, I have no clue. But, like a favorite honey hole of a fishing spot, you both hold a special place in my heart and I am thankful for your work.

That's great to hear. MacLeans are great nets and fun to dial in the weights - I'm usually within 1/4 lb no matter the location or fish now so it does train the mental eye to that. Inches of length are kind of irrelevant these days! :) Ah, we're not willing to do what it takes to be pop-culture by focusing on popular spots or location names nor doing too much hype... we're solely now focused on what we love and that doesn't tend to attract huge audiences nor trip the algorithm. But with the support at Patreon and a little from Orvis, we can cobble it all together :) Thank you for continuing to tune in :)

DAVE , excellence at its best, what gopro setting are you running? Tight lines, stay well and healthy guys💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

@jensenflyfishing 3 месяца назад
Hiya - the basics of the settings are 4K30 as it's our foundations for all cameras - GoPro; GH6; drone; phone. I can't recall all the settings that we use for it - lens; horiz stab; color gradient; exposure; iso; etc for on stream recording and time/nightlapses but it's all done in a 45 min course at our digital membership www.jensenflyfishing.com All the best.

You know I like Jim McLennan and his books like Alberta trout streams. But just like your video high winds and tough terrain makes it challenging.

Dave I remember the humble fly fisherman on RU-vid from Calgary. He was my favourite because he would show ram falls and the south ram river. But he stopped posting videos, why because he retired? I’m not going to speculate but I feel our Alberta streams are dying because of drought and who knows maybe there will be another drought this season? I’ve been fishing for over ten years know and the rivers were plentiful with full of mountain whitefish and cutthroat trout and browns. Look what’s happening in pincher creek? Drought! I was planning to go once on vacation to crwsnest or stick to the upper bow. But like I said I’ve been fishing for over ten years now every year on vacation in Alberta! Sad to see the older population is drifting away while the younger generation is looking at the impact we had on our rivers. Thanks Dave I’ve been a lifelong angler and now it’s time to pass the torch!

Btw I might visit cranbrook and Columbia River as I have fly fusion on my network love Derek bird Jim McLennan for making videos that I can watch on my network. My dad is 75 years old now he needs me to be there for him. But I always love your videos on ram falls and Alberta in general thanks for the content!

@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 2 месяца назад
@@RobGorecki-mr9vk I wasn't sure there was anything to reply to in you saying what you liked and thought, that's all how you see and think, that's great. That and we've been out a lot lately and not as much on the computer - we tend to be here Saturdays to reply to our Patreon group :) Two of the past 6 years in the SW have been drought, I'm not so sure this summer will be anywhere near as bad as they want to say it is, since we got home mid Feb from NZ it has been nothing but cloudy, cool and wet with snowpacks now all in normal range and ahead of last year. We'll see how far that carries us and what's to come. Things could be good. Time always lets us know :)

For that fish at 20:00, are you suggesting that it might be best to get your drift on the far side of the fish so it eats away from you? I've never thought about this before...I've always read or been taught to keep the fly on the inside (this side) of you so that you don't line the fish, but I suppose if you lead the fish enough spooking the fish might not happen. Was this only because of the conditions? You could get away with it because the wind was creating chop that obscured your leader?
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 2 месяца назад
sometimes, yes. It has to reading the trout's behaviour and likely response in its position. Again, as you know, we get into this... www.patreon.com/jensenflyfishing

What specific model of McLean nets are you guys using? Looking to replace my long handle net with something more appropriate for backcountry adventures. Thanks!

The mid length Trout weight net. Be sure to check the pop-out connector as we had to check several in store before finding one that was solid this go around.
