@@sod1237 they're pretty much the same as they've been every edition. Just take the lumps they dish out, and go kill the goblins. They're only really an issue for hyper elite armies that can't stomach any casualties.
@@jacobbodmer3159 I am not sure. If the enemy has (or wants ) to finish the charge. they get one d6 hit by each fanatic while doing it and then another one during the compulsory movement phase. 3 fanatics doing 6 D6 hits on a unit is a problem for basically every one, even high toughness or high armour. And you also can t pull them out with a cheap unit.
One minor rules quibble: units must move by the shortest route possible in as straight a line as possible when charging. The elves can't wheel conveniently around the fanatics, ESPECIALLY if doing so brings them into contact with a second unit (the giant) during a charge move because you can't declare multiple charge targets unless you are unable to make contact with your primary target without also contacting the secondary one.
16k views right now! Old World hype baybay! Long may it continue, as these fine folk have been keeping the Old World alive for a long time now, long before this latest version dropped
Love how you make it look attainable from the start and also amazing at the end. Hoping to see lots more old world. Would be cool to see you show how to rescue some ebay models as everyone buys up OLD models ready for the relaunch 😅
Having 3 open mics in a small room together is going to cause issues. Usually you mute the mics not being used and unmute when they start talking. Or you can go more complex and tune out the frequencies that are causing the reverb.
1/2 inch rule. When looking at enemy charges i will look if its over the half. It goes up if its under take the lower. A few mm no big deal but whn you get to within an half inch and an inch you may aswell just talk to your opponent about where your placing them wheb moving and confirming that if i put them there or ypu land there you will be at an x charge, but thats not really useble at high levels
Great game guys. 20+ years ago I bought a bunch of fanatics and dreamed of them working like this. But they just never really worked... in all the gens. But today. They were exactly what I think they were supposed to be. I am very excited for this return to glory
Whilst waiting for my rulebook, can anyone answer this? What does Full cover give in Warhammer the old world? Cannot be targeted or a minus 2 to hit or something? Asking because Im thinking of using an engineer with my warmachines for Empire. But if I need a chaff unit to stand by him to hinder targeting by magic missiles and shooting I might give him a miss.
I’m looking forward getting into Orcs and Goblins for Old world. I played lizard men in fantasy them got rid of them to go ogres and Demons which i traded off for more 40k. But now i can finally get into an an army i always wanted to try.
In this addition to can measure whenever you want? I remember it was a big thing in Classic Fantasy the you had to declare everything before ever getting to measure, and you if you wrong... tough noogies it was considered a intrinsic part of the game. I know in all there games by now, you can measure anything whenever you want. So I was surprised they didn't bring that part back, it's very of it's time.
At 17:45, what spell are you referencing being the trash one? You say "the high one is casting value 8, a single strength 4 hit with armour saves." But when i look at High Magic its signature isnt even a damaging spell, its a hex that stays in play and debuffs enemy wizards. "Drain Magic" it's called. Am i missing something?
No, they've never died when they contact other unit. However, before they died when someone else made contact with them, but not anymore. Now, they only die if they roll a double in their movement or if they crash into impassible terrain
Great video, but I'm not convinced that fanatics can pop out during another player's turn. The rules say "during any Start of Turn sub-phase". It feels like by that logic, the fanatics would move twice per round (once on each players turn), because the rules say "During each and every other Compulsory Moves sub-phase...[move in a random direction]". I was looking at some other rules for comparison - random movement says "Models with this special rule move during the Compulsory Moves sub-phase". None of them specify "the controlling player's turn", but I feel like that's implicit in all of these rules. Goes without saying. I'm an O&G player and would love to be able to pop them out during another player's turn...but I don't read the rules that way. Am I wrong?
It looks to me as if Fanatics only do another move in the other compulsory movement phase on the turn they get released (that is specifically mentioned). They only move in the O&G turn afterwards.
Part of me really wants to run out and start buying chaos warriors and start an old world army but i just can't bring myself to do it. Ive just had too many years of the GW "buying into a new edition every 3 years and everything that goes with it" i suppose
@@garypeyman932 GW does not make it easy either. WHen I started playing Kings of War all I needed was a new rule book. Now I have to buy 2-3 books and re-base. :(
@@MountainMiniatures I was curious about The Old World, then I found your channel, and now I am def into it XD Great work on the reports, I highly enjoy them
I'm sure I'd find AoS fun as a game. It looks like a super simplified version of Warhammer. But I just can't fall in love with the lore and aesthetics of the setting. It's a little too Masters Of The Universe for my taste 😅
I don't quite understand the logic of answering questions during a game. I was trying to learn about the play but the constant interference makes it difficult to enjoy the game. I would prefer to listen to you to chat warhammer another time, and just showcase the game. I think your chat about the game itself is really useful.
Isn't it possible to at least put a couple of timestamps on these videos, they are already atrocious to watch with all the interference from the superchats. But a timestamp for army presentation and one for the roll off to see who starts at least. Or edit the video, please
Why are you keep making support attacks from a fighting rank? All models in the fighting rank makes all their attacks, even if they aren't in btb contact
@@peisenxu952 hm, you are totally right, but that has nothing to do with supporting attacks per se, it's just a different rule. A bit counter-intuitive, and makes sluggish multiattack models (like frenzied twin choppa boyz) a bit pointless, as you usually either loose models due to lower initiative or can't even come to btb in full, so you loose attacks again.
@@sururu6 I doubt saurus warriors will still have 2 attacks in this edition. Look at chaos warriors, they've lost second attack in profile. And if saurus warriors will keep their predatory fighters, that will be awesome, as extra attacks can be generated from any attacks, not only from the fighting rank. In 8th edition, on the other hand, saurus warriors were way too strong for a core infantry. As for shooting, it is now somewhat more meaningful that in 8th edition due to lower saves and more weapons being quick to fire. in any case, fantasy is about solving problems close and personal, even if you are a dwarf, SaS lists were always absolutely boring to play against.
@@user-tc9sk4ei9y Make sure you don't forget that casualties are taken from the ends of the fighting rank. So if you have four models in base contact in a seven model rank and lose three of them before your initiative, you'll still have four models attacking. So fragile, low initiative units might still struggle to swing, especially against hyper deadly units, but a decent front might survive well enough to put down a few attacks. And champions (and characters) have to be specifically targeted, giving a unit even more opportunity to swing back
@@jessepigram1039 well, a fair point. Wide front units are extra cumbersome in TOW though. Need to test how divert is working with all the new movement rules.
I disagree vehemently with the idea that you need to have 50 matches under your belt before you may have a legitimate opinion about a game. The developers haven't even played 50 matches of anything GW released since the early 00s.
Thats not what i said. We all form opinions instantly. Im saying maybe we shouldnt be trying to tell everyone else what the best way to play untill you know you have played a bunch. Seem perfectly reasonable no?
@@MountainMiniatures Ahh gotcha. I have to admit I'm a bit pessimistic when someone as learned as you in the ways of WHFB struggles to find rules in the book. Like whether a marching flying monster is entitled to the free pivot. How many games until I'm even playing correctly? :(
@@captainferrite its a complicated game, i wouldnt worry, just learn the basics, then learn the rules of a list you make. once you get that under your belt, add a new type of unit, and keep doing that. My struggle is learning he rules, and playing and recording/narrating at the same time. Also playong all 16 armies at once isnt helping me remember anything. It will take time, but im enjoying the ride.
@@captainferriteWH was always like this. The latest, AoS and recent 40k were a little less difficult and nerdy, but warhammer always was about cross-references and exceptions and about knowing the USR...
The move phase will kill this game. We grognards grew up with tedious movement in the 80s. But even we have moved on. It doesn't add enough to justify the aggrevation. Many of us have even moved on to grids to expedite movement and focus on a game's narrative. 🙂👍 You know a game is bad when even the most ardent supporter/influnecer refuses to show how the game ACTUALLY plays. And GW influncers are consistently not showing large portions of the rules because they're too boring.
They've not been "dissing" army project. Each time I've seen them talk about this prior it's been "WAP did a fantastic job, no offense to the creator but this is better". They are praising ToW while remaining respectful, but each time we get people like you saying "talking about WAP uncalled for" or whatever.
