Denmark is not a big country unless you count Greenland which are 22 times the size of Denmark and a part of the kingdom. But still large enough to you can land or fight in one place and most parts will know nothing about it if radios and radar are down, many hundreds of kilometers in size.
The Lion returned, the Fallen are being forgiven, GW is pumping out new Dark Angel models, and Cypher is getting a reprint next March. Never been a better time to be a Dark Angels fan. Praise the Lion!
@@irgilligan Hey, I had assurances from Perturabo that the Datasheets and Codex were going make a significant impact once they dropped. It's not my fault GW enlisted Erebus to balance 10th Edition.
Cypher comments: "He (Azrael) would make a good seneschal to the Lion." Corswain was the Lions' seneschal. I feel like that's the most glaring clue we get implying that Cypher is Corswain.
The psycer probably messed with his mind a bit (maybe partly entered?). Would be an explanation for why he is so mad/ rambly in his own point of view story.
This is an old comment I know, but I want to put this out there cuz I haven’t had a chance yet: in the Cypher: Lord Of The Fallen book, cypher encounters a demon (I believe it’s a demon, I don’t remember exactly what it was other than a psi-creature) who calls him The Soul Divided. Which when I first heard that I immediately thought about how the two main theories is that Cypher is either Corswain or Zahariel as they were last seen fighting each other. That comment on him having a divided soul makes me think that the splitting of Caliban in the Warp might have somehow fused Corswain and Zahariel into one body. It would explain why when the doomseer is trying to see Cyphers future, she sees two futures, both equally as real, almost as if he is two people
Games workshop needs to do a game where you play Cypher like Assassin's Creed and having to escape different places after doing your objective. Stealing/spying/killing/gathering intel. Settings could be Imperial palace, spacehulks, craftworlds, tombworlds-- basically where ever.
There's a third option for what the Lion Blade is a key for... The "forbidden" armoury, all the stuff that only he or the Emperor could sanction the use of.
I think the swap from the Lion having the sword of the Emperor to now, the shield of the Emperor, is also reflected in his shifted role in the Imperium; he's now more of a defender and redeemer, hence the shield, and less of an outright crusader (like his days with the sword).
As stated in a previous comment above, the lions sword is not the emperors sword. Guilliman has the emperors sword. The lion has the emperors shield. Which is pretty cool from a philosophical perspective. Sword and shield bla bla bla. The lions sword was just “the lions sword”
Regarding the 'Not Yet', there's a theory that the Emperor needs to die to be reborn, and that Cypher knows this. It could be that the Emperor is waiting for a particular moment for this to happen.
The emperor needs to have a lot of things in place to be reborn succesfully without everything falling apart. There has to be a way to power the astronomicon, his soul needs to be stable, he needs to be in controllmore than the belifs of humans, more of his sons need to be able to stabilise the imperium itself and the starchild has to return.
Its someone that will be impactful when meeting the lion imo Luther is a good guess. Not sure if luther was able to redeem himself from chaos or kill a custodes@@scottross5495
@@scottross5495 wouldn't make sense. Luther was locked in the depths of the Rock until very recently. Cypher was at large the whole time until then. Most likely, he's Corswain.
I think he's Corswain but Zahariel used psychic powers to attempt to take over his body before he was slain by the Paladin. A combination of the strength of Corswain and the botched job has caused a sorta split personality in cypher. Hence why he does questionable things
I know Cypher's cannot be anything else but the Lion's Sword but given that you mentioned other options I think is good to add it cannot be Luther's sword since that one is in the posession of the Dark Angels, one of their Interrogator Chaplains added a black pearl to his Rosarius after breaking a Fallen and used the info to lead an expedition in which they recover Luther's sword, one that has an inscription that says it was a gift from the Lion and the blade is tainted by Chaos so is quite likely is the very same blade he used in their duel at Caliban.
There's also the fact that the sword carried by Cypher is too large for an astartes, and Luther isn't even a true astartes. He was too old for the astartes augmentations so he was given lesser augmentations, which means he's likely not as large as an astartes and gar too small for such a sword
Cypher's purpose in that mission HAD to be to kill the Emperor so he could he reborn as a God. You ask there why he doesn't just tell the Custodes to let him through - that's because even if he wished for Cypher to kill him then the Custodes are hardwired to protect the Emperor so would be incapable of allowing it. I think in general the setting is moving towards the Emperor becoming a god and Cypher is one of his insurance policies, BUT the time has to be right in order for this to happen. I suspect the Emperor in the warp has some kind of deal with Ynnead where they can both return to the setting as fully-fledged gods of Order. It would be interesting too since if you think about it even Terra going boom or being sucked into the warp wouldn't actually drastically change the setting - Custodes are out and about in the galaxy now so they'd still exist. The astronomican would just shift to god-mode Big E, and the main thing would be some interesting shifts and schisms within the Imperium itself.
I can't hear the name Asmodai without also hearing "REPENT MOTHERF***ER!!". I would be very interested if Cypher and The Lion ever met now he has returned. Perhaps they have a long dialogue and the sword returned to its rightful owner. I doubt it would happen though, GW could potentially ruin one of it's most interesting characters if his identity was revealed in some way.
The Lion has let the one Risen marksman guy keep his helmet on and his identity hidden. Maybe he'd accept Cypher keeping his identity hidden, and it is part the tradition of the title of Cypher that the identity remains hidden. I don't see a reason that GW couldn't have them meet and then separate based on the Lion's statements about joining him being optional so long as the legion members hadn't become corrupted
I want Cypher to be dragged before the Lion, and the Lion to go "...Why the hell have you got my most loyal supporter in chains?" For Cypher to basically go "'Sup Dad, here's your sword."
Cypher is the Squat primarch that no one talks about and never got his own legion cause the emperor is height-ist, so Squatmarch runs around cosplaying as a normal space marine for shts and giggles.
Or, what makes the most sense, is that it's his power to pass unnoticed even by Custodes. You know, like Alpharius was a master of and Omegon had it also but it was not as trained. But that power allowed Alpharius to walk right by Custodes and into the most sensitive areas of the Palace. But this not very likely.
I’ve heard it speculated that the alpha legion was essentially an experiment to see if they could develop something capable of adapting to the warp - to be capable of purifying itself. And that they were always meant to become corrupted. That would fit right in with Cypher. Not saying it is that at all, just an option they could take.
I like how Guilliman's armour has his name written on it, as if someone's going to look at a suit of giant power armour absolutely bedecked in Ultrasmurf livery and think, I wonder who this might belong to?
When I read it I also had the take that Cypher meant he could have killed the corrupt marine earlier instead of letting his warp powers and corruption grow. Not use some warp noodles to cure his affliction. But who knows. It was a great read!
Tinfoil hat... Cypher's destiny is to kill the Emperor. Not all of him, but the part of him that's on the Golden Throne, the part that exists as a despotic, uncaring parasite on Humanity. The part of him that will be the Dark King. But the part of the Emperor that actually CARES, the part that's out there in the cosmos trying to save humanity, needs to find a suitable host first. It needs the Starchild. The message was "Not Yet" not because of anything to do with The Lion, it was because it's too soon to kill the Corpse Emperor.
Honestly i think Cypher is stuck in a warp thingy that spews him out in places that shit hit the fan only for him to take the blame either for the success or failure
If Cypher has been guided by the Emperor along his journey, we also have to recall there are 3 Emperors now. 1. The Corpse-Emperor of the Golden Throne. 2. That Star Child inside the Astronomican. 3. The Black King clone made by the Dark Eldar (in exchange for repairing the Golden Throne). So, if the Emperor on the throne were to die, his power wouldn't transfer only to the Star Child, but also the Black King. "Not yet" then means more lore has to be written, either a story about kidnapping the clone as a Vessel for the Emperor, or disposing of him in some other way. But probably a kidnapping and then a soul transfer into the clone would fit better with 40k, as this would certainly go wrong and cause a soul-split and a new God of Order to be born in the Warp (ala Sigmar in Fantasy Warhammer).
@@inquisitorgrynthebandito2736 I’m listening now, it’s quite good. The Necrons are both incredibly serious (technologically) and kinda stupid and hilarious (socially).

Love Cypher and I hope he is Coswain just doesn't remember who he is after the devastating destruction of Caliban but the old Cypher puts the thoughts in his head he is Cypher right before he dies.
My feeling on the scene where Cypher gets told ‘not yet’ was his forgotten mission is to kill the Emperor so he can be reborn. But the Emperor is not ready to be reborn yet, hence ‘not yet’.
The theme of "seeking truth unwisely leads to death" is a theme that repeats in 40k literature: the same theme in this novel was in the Emperor's words at Nikea, which becomes the Edict that Nemiel (Zahariel's cousin) fatefully stood up to The Lion over when the primarch wanted to reinstate Librarians to battle demons. The primarch killed him in a fit of rage when Nemiel wouldn't back down, leading to Zahariel's hatred for his primarch, leading him to become a Fallen, etc. All very ouroboric.
Cypher is Zahariel. The Emporor himself told Zahariel he has a purpose in the future after Zahariel stopped the nuke. That would be an awesome forshadow IMHO. Far better than Corswain, also the hate for the killing of Nemeiel, who was a POS BTW, needs closure and what better way than him brining the Lion his sword in a time of his greatest need? Man, I love this story line.
@@thenson1HaloThere’s already at least ONE primarch that can blend into environment and hide his primarch aura from others. Hint: His name begins with A
I absolutely cannot get past Wes' haircut. Looks like a small squid-like alien is trying to eat his brains. I simply cannot pay attention to what he says with that hair constructed puppet version of a mind flayer on top of him. He may be great st presenting lore, but ive never been able to find out. Luetin and Sandman are indeed good though.
i hope Cypher's identity is never revealed. when DC comics revealed who the Joker was, it took away the mystery of the character. when him and the Lion meet, i think the Lion will know exactly who he his. but i really hope they don't out right name him, to keep the mystique
That, and the two neophytes killing a custodes are really the only examples of it. I don't think what is basically a genestealer and a race of Liberians custodes equivalent killing custodes easily is bad writing
Cypher is both Zahariel and Corswain. All his actions can be either from either, better yet it is born from the joint decision of both minds, which mesh in one broken one. Both psycher and martial, both warp tainted and pure, both loyal and traitor.
It's a fair theory,.and could work. Personally, I just don't see any of Zachariel in any of cyphers actions. Zahariel is stone cold evil and hates the lion with every fibre of his being, I don't see that in cyphers actions
It’s also because to fraction of the imperium is fighting, you risk being on the wrong side if you help one side, and the assassin fraction usually try to not get involved in the internal conflicts unless they are ordered to, internal conflicts are not rare in the imperium of man.
As the destruction of Caliban goes, wasn't it the case that the T'chucha engine had been used in the 40k era to take a shortcut through the warp, and as a side effect a backlash went back through time and destroyed Caliban?
Seeing as Azrael was able to enter Luther's cell and discover he was gone means the Lion Blade was not needed to enter it so it was either used for the Lion's chamber or there is another room which interpersonal theory is it would be for the chamber Zaharial was taken to when he was brought into the Inner Circle or perhaps a library that stores the tombs and scrolls taken from the Order (name escaped me) the Lion defeated in the North Wilds as those tombs, books and scrolls were filled with studies of Chaos.
I think Cypher was there to kill the emperor and make him regenerate. I think thr "not yet" is a "don't kill me yet" fron the emperor and that they are going to tie it in with the return of Valdor
@@tooslow4065Cause it wasn't Alpharius who died at Eskrandor, it was Bobby G. That's why the Ultramarines don't have records about it and he doesn't correct them.
Latest Horus Heresy book has The Emperor break part of himself off as a shard and send it away before he goes to fight Horus, Cypher could be that shard and that's why he's mentally unstable, doesn't know why he's doing what he's doing, only that he needs to get to The Emperor then he'll know.
The message to Cypher makes perfect sense. As you say, Cypher is pretty much insane; whatever mission he's on that he doesn't even understand himself, it's entirely plausible that whatever his mission is involves him standing before the Emperor, but that there are preconditions that have to be met before that. So the message is meant to put Cypher back on the correct path, rather than trying to rush to the end.
I like to think Cypher is both Corswain and Zahariel. Maybe as warp stuff happened during the destruction of caliban and the scattering of the fallen their souls are somehow combined. Maybe Zahariel was casting a psyker attack on Corswain as this event took place linking their souls. Hence Cypher having these abilities, combat skills and agendas that benefit both chaos and the imperium. It could also account for some of cypher’s apparent insanity and his ever changing personality as the traits and characteristics of both Corswain and Zahariel struggle with each other for dominance within the singular being.
As to understand the whole "why not tell the custodes Cyphers a chill dude who has free pass to come and see me" we could make some assumptions to have one way to understand it. First, let's say that Cyphers goal is to kill big Ed's husk of a mortal shell in order to let him be reborn. It's specifically mentioned by several characters that it's specifically the sword that would allow Cypher to kill big E. Just going in blazing with bolter and plasma wouldn't be enough. And there are probably few weapons that are powerful enough to kill big E. Secondly, it's clear big E isn't exactly using words to communicate and it's difficult to communicate for him. We see it in the Lion book as well as with all these dreams. Way I interpret that is how he communicate is through visions of the future path he want people to enact. Thirdly, even if he were to say "let Cypher kill me", do you think anyone making that interpretation would dare to say it out loud, and even less everyone would agree to it without causing major in fighting and further complications? If you were a custodian, how do you think your Fellows would react to "hey, big E told me we should let this Cypher dude come into the throne room and decapitate him". Would it be more likely they would Heed your vision or throw you into a cell under suspicion of chaos corruption? The vision showed what would happen if Cypher were to go through with the plan, and seeing the wanted path and historical paths made sense for the custard man. As to why big E didn't say it himself directly to Cypher could simply be because Cypher is shielded/shrouded from big E himself. It's part of the trade-off to obscure his future and obscure his identity from everyone, even chaos, for over 10'000 years. It's possible the watchers in the dark have something to do with all of this as well. Just thinking of how they knew that big E would only respond to Lion when he asks the right question, not to forget they seem to share mirror Caliban to some extent and it feels implied they are working with the big E seeing how they guide Lion to the shield when he's ready. Not to forget open up a portal to the sword in the stone once Lion decides it's better to die fighting than abandoning his son to his fate when meeting the two obliterators unarmed. I'm also guessing they guided him to find the Fallen in that region.
I think Cypher is somehow indentured to the Emperor - moreso than by the typical "For The Emperor!" loyalty. Perhaps the emperor has promised forgiveness and the peace of death for him once his "job" is complete.
Always believed it for access to one of the 3 weapons the Lion was obsessed with, of which it was said he had access to 2 the Oroborous being one. But I just hope they fix this for I'm dead..been reading for 35 years and I'm 60.
The case of the harlequins getting into the palace and killing a bunch of custodians was, I think, written before the custodians were revamped into the above-astartes individuals we have now, so back when they were not clearly defined or were merely human defenders of the palace. So it's more old lore that no longer applies than it is bad writing.
19:34 the Lion is out and about, so it can't be the Lion's chamber... so it is probably the key to Luther's chamber... except that Luther is out and about...
Has the chronology of when the Lion's return takes been made clear? I was under the impression that it's substantially after the opening of the rift, and the Cypher book takes place within days of the rift opening
@@Man_Emperor_of_Mankind Not exactly afaik. It's implied it's quite recently the rift had opened (in this case this could mean anything from a few months to a couple of years, but probably less than a decade). Simply due to how they talk about seeing the rift in the night on the first planet Lion comes to. And we know it's a couple of months afterwards that Lion meets Dante and that Dante has crossed the rubricon by then. So yeah... Within a couple of years perhaps? Not long enough for the news about Guillimans return to reach that part of the Imperium the Lion is in at least.
The idea that the sword is a key to Luthers cell is way off if it was he wouldn't be visited on the reg by people giving him a little torture and while cipher was leaving the cells they made a point of saying the sword vanished only for the lion in his book to pull one from a stone not long after and for it to be matching on his new model it may be a key on the rock but definitely not to the newly escaped luthers cell
John French: Do we reveal anything important about Cypher? Black Library Circle: Not yet. French: 😑 This is twice now that French delivered a Nothing Burger. The end of the Ahriman trilogy was similarly a big let down in my opinion. A part of me is happy that GW is actually moving the plot along after it being static for so long, but now it just feels like a string of cockteasing and I'm getting blue balled.
The risen imply so much more if they push through the entire idea of the lion being a smaller version of emps. His Horus was Luther. So if the Lion does a redemption there, maybe there will be some sort of redemption coming for a couple of traitor Astartes.
One question I've always had is could Cypher be Luther? His mind twisted by the chaos he's trying to make amends for what he did. Trying to reach the emperor to ask forgiveness. The key Cypher is carrying could be to an empty room.
Luthers not a space marine, just an augmented human, so he's head and shoulders shorter than an astartes. In official images of Cypher he's a normal sized marine, just doesn't add up. Personally, I think he's Zahariel.
I suspect the follow up to the Horus heresy (The Scouring) will sort this out. Or possibly the next few dark angels books. Hopefully Corswain is at least part of the answer.. However the fact that Cypher was certain that a custodian posed no threat to him at all has me thinking Omegon has to be in with a shot. Seems likely to be a fusion of two characters. Great character whoever he turns out to be👍
'Go home' was a better set of words lol But it could also be that cypher is the one who is destined to kill the emperor and that time is not yet. But it could be other things as well.
25:17 I'm in the shard issue since I joined the ranks of the Angels of Death. I always thought whether Cypher is the Ghost of the Lion in one of the fallen doing a secret campaign. And the disappears will be the same as the forrest stuffof El Johnson.
More than Likely this is what is happening (or will happen): When the Lion meets the emperor he will be given the sword back or have it in hand to aid the emperor. There will be an attack by Bile or someone else in the throne room. Alpha Primus will be in tow or teleport to tera by himself (or something of the sort) and, after the old body is struck down by the Lion (after sword soul talking mcguffin and stopping the dark one transformation again or some Tyranid Bile Pimarus abomination attack to eat the Emperor), will sit in the throne and take off his helmet to revel that he was the incarnation or the of the star child and the new fully awoken emperor. The King in Yellow will appear and yell something on the lines of "DUTY UNTIL DEATH!" and a big ass battle will be had. Primarchs will return from the warp, God powers from new Big E- the whole nine yards. Then, after the dust is stetted, it will be reviled that the Tyranids were sent by the Last of the Old Ones to reclaim the galaxy and the whole of the Leviathan battles were for either cleansing or testing the level of thread they needed to counter. Then there will be some "why can't you use the new Emperor in my army" explanation of some sort. Why do I think this? This allows for an explanation of why the Necrons were woken early by the silent king, it allows for new models and powerup for Orks and for Orks to battle Qorks as the biggest Ork wants to rule the bigest battle. Aldari Gods to form a new angle for Humanity to not be Howling against dieing. and Lots of new books and plastic to make every one buy.
My theory is that the emperor is gathering strength from the warp and the sacrifice of the 1000 psyches at the expense of his physical body. This however means nothing to him as he is a perpetual and can regenerate as soon as he is killed. Cypher is the hand that he has instructed to kill him. Using the lion sword as it is powerful enough to achieve it. However the power and machinations he is laying out are not yet finished so he delayed Cyphers task.
I think the emperor has gathered enough psychic strength, especially considering him being a practical god because of the way the imperium worships him (which could've been a part of his long plan of hos swift and tactical return, even tho he is against religious figure and institution) besides that, I think the emperor is waiting out careful for the imperium to recover, primarchs returning, primaris, Big E knows that his return will cause an immediate crusade from Chaos and wants his imperium strong enough, soon .
The whole part with the Lion's sword doesn't make any sense though. It's just a power sword, and there's nothing to indicate that it's anything more than that. It's not a psychic force weapon like the Grey Knights or other warp empowered individuals use, nor one if the weapons like Russ and Valdor's spears or the emperors sword which house fragments of the emperor's power
I think that there's more to Cypher than we realize. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that he's not even a Dark Angel. It's a bit on the nose, but his name "Cypher" means "a secret or disguised way of writing." So, who is he? Personally, I think he's from a legion (if not the Primarch of said legion), which we haven't yet actually met. A legion created as a kind of contingency plan by the Emperor during the Horus Heresy. Keep in mind, the Heresy lasted 200 years, so that's plenty of time for the Emperor to raise a legion in secret and keep that secret from the loyalist legions, even from the Custodes... or at least to a degree. I figure that he would have passed on the information about this secret legion and its mission to his most trusted among the Custodes; who in turn would pass it on to each new chapter master. Essentially saying "This is a secret only you can ever know of, but if this person shows up, here's what they're going to do, or why they're here." It wouldn't surprise at all for the emperor to have tasked this secret legion with the mission that, should the Emperor fall to Horus, then these marines were to do everything they could to reach Terra, and assassinate the Emperor so he could be reborn in a new body. I'd be willing to bet Vulkan himself found out about this plan, hence why he placed the bomb on the golden throne. Not in an effort to defend the Empire of man from Chaos, or to protect the webway; but rather as a deterrent. Making it so that should the contingency plan actually be carried out; doing so would be a suicidal mission for the marines tasked with killing the emperor.
My head cannon is Alpharius or Omegon but G man spent time with him so hed probably notice that. But also Corvus developed his warp powers what if A&O can shapeshift?
Ezekiel's prophecy about recovering Epimetheus from Abbadon's captivity is growing more interesting by the Lion's return. Who did he switch places with? Where will Lion be during the other named characters' quest? Cypher can only be revealed to be who he is by this plot thread closing... Also Cypher could also be time traveling due to Azrael's decision that lead to Calaban's destruction via Tuchulcha and the Plague Heart in Unforgiven... While Tuchulcha could be Dr Who in 40k, the Lion and Cypher could be seen as it's companions, though Lion mostly "in dimesion in space" (pragmatic mindset, 3d) while Cypher including "time and" (mysterious mindset, 4d)
i liked Cypher mistery i dont know if they can tell us who he is and what he wants in a way where it doesnt ruin him as a character . all those secrets is what makes Cypher interesting
It's been some time since I read the book; but, I think something else that is significant as well is the absence of the hooded ones that are always around in the corners. They're always around the Dark Angels in almost every other book and I don't recall seeing any reference to them in regards to Cypher. Is Cypher acting outside of them or are they some part of Cypher if we're talking about shards of the Primarch?
