High End IKEA? Making a Modern Solid Wood Equipment Stand

I say "TV stand", but my TV is mounted on the wall and I'm using this for my audio equipment only. In any case, it would make a very capable TV stand - the top is solid 1" thick ash along with sides of the cabinet. I used three 8" wide boards to make the top and sides and the grain is continuous across the mitered corner joints.
The centre section is made from two 6" ash boards and a hunk of thick walnut. The shelves are actually arms that cantilever out from the middle and being open promotes better ventilation.
I say 5 boards in the title because the walnut was an optional upgrade. I could have used the offcut ends from the ash boards to make those parts by gluing two thicknesses together.
The top / sides is one piece and it lifts off of the centre section so that I can hook everything up.
The dimensions: 21" high x 21" deep x 43" long.

Excellent viewing experience. Builds like this one are quite nice to watch just how you made this video. No music, talking, or voice over... Depending on what I'm working on, more and more often I'm finding myself with the radio off and enjoying the subtle sounds that are produced by the work itself. I appreciate the variety you strive for in your video making. Nice piece. Great work.

Your shop is looking very well organized with your work bench, vices, dogs and jigs. Normally I am not a fan of "wood grain" but your TV stand with the matching grains is exceptional.

Nice to see a cabinet build, good looking material and design. Damn, those miters look sharp! I cnc’d miters on a smaller project, they were better than tablesaw (but im not very experienced at tablesaw). Can dowels be substituted for dominoes on miters. Great way to clamp the miters.

Great job. Perhaps a dumb question, but when you placed the angled pieces with glue on the sides of the project to use for anchors to clamp the mitered corners with biscuits/glue, did you just use normal wood glue or was it a special kind that released easy under pry pressure? I feel like if I let that dry long to enough to be strong enough to be used as clamping anchors, I'd tear out the wood when I tried to chisel them off. Thanks!
@MandoFettOG
@MandoFettOG 2 года назад
Wondering the same thing. I suspect since it was end grain being glued down maybe that helped reduce the chance of chip out
@americanbuffalo7802
@americanbuffalo7802 2 года назад
@@MandoFettOG Quite possibly. I'd just hate to go that far into a basically finished project/surface only to take a chunk out of one of my sides because I used the wrong product or let it dry too long, etc. Assumed it was something easily answered but, maybe not.
