Informative episode! I’m also a left handed person who knits right handed and have never really thought about the challenges of seeing the garments until you mentioned this. I do crochet left handed though which adds another layer of difficulty as I have to reverse every pattern to accommodate the direction I’m working on. I really like the color of your test tee…power through, it’s looking so good! Happy Knitting.

Thank you for the lovely episode! I recommend using helical knitting when alternating skeins, it is very simple and you don't have that line of switching yarns 🙃

Love the colours in the brioche hat! 👌🏻 A tubular caston tends to look better if you go down a needles size or two. It’s supposed to mimick the sewing you do as the last step of a tubular bindoff, so you want less yarn in every sts. I tend to go down 1 mm for the caston and knit over to the correct needlesize on the first setup row, but I’m a tight knitter. You might want to test going down 0,5 mm first. 😊

Interesting!! I’d heard before to go up in size so the set up rounds are easier to work, but I’ll definitely try going down a size next time!

I just learned how to do helical knitting when using 2 skeins of hand dyed yarn and I was pleased with the result and how easy it was.

It's so interesting to hear you talk about the collar on your tee. I'm currently making tee no. 1 which has the same feature and I struggled with sewing the collar down in the same way as you. Thankfully my yarn is a bit rustic and fuzzy so I might be able to get away with it, but I'm considering ripping it out and redoing it if it bothers me enough.

I think the Andrea G top is a total home run! The drape of the cotton will make the positive ease less noticable. Cotton/merino blend is one of my favs. I do like more of a merino content. The blend wears really well. No pilling. The top would also be nice as a sleeveless top. Will buy this for sure! The hemp blend will have lots of drape-- not much body or structure. Cant wait to see how it works up

Love podcast, can I suggest you try helical knitting to blend yarn. The seam doesn’t really block out unfortunately.

@@highfiberknits so in my experience helical knitting works well with stockinette stitch. Whenever I have done more of a pattern or say cables I twist yarn like you have at the side seam and tried to do it where there was a purl stitch to held camouflage the “twist” of the yarn when your changing yarns.

Very interested to see you how your t-shirt turns out. Definitely love the mole colour. For your pink blouse no.1 I think white bottoms would look amazing. I love white jeans and linen pants but shorts and skirts of any length are great too. Yes, they can get dirty but if its a bright white you have the option to bleach if necessary. I have been wearing white with kids and dogs for years and so far never had anything permanently stained 🤞🤞 (now that I said it.... 😬)

Thank you! I’d love to try cream or white bottoms, but I’ve never found any that I don’t find too sheer…I’m thinking a thick white cotton poplin would be ideal in an a line shape so I could wear shorts underneath.
@ursulas9369
@ursulas9369 4 месяца назад
@@highfiberknits all my white denim bottoms are not sheer and I also have a couple thicker linen ones that are good. For the rest I wear nude boy shorts underpants and that works great. You just need to adjust the shade of nude over the summer if you get very tanned 😜

I've had the same experience trying to put in a lifeline to rip back. It's almost impossible to keep to the same row and it takes ages. Now I always rip back without a lifeline and it's much easier I have a crochet hook on hand if the odd stitch slips back but I find if I'm careful I don't really need it. Be brave 😮
@highfiberknits

How interesting! I’d always be worried to lose my BOR, although I guess a locking stitch marker would work?
@louiserossiter4310

@highfiberknits That's it I follow the row up to where I want to rip back to and put the BOR there 👍

I'm also left-handed and I have the same issue with sown bindoffs, seaming etc as a leftie! Since tubular bindoff for example is usually done from right to left, I have noticed that I keep switching to my right hand to do this and I have gotten pretty good at it.^^ But it is a bit straining on my hand, especially if it's the bottom hem of a sweater... Good to know that I'm not the only one with these leftie struggles, my right-handed husband sometimes doesn't understand that being left-handed can in some cases be a bit of a difficulty. However, I'm a continental knitter and I think being left-handed can actually be beneficial in that style, since you're tensioning the yarn with that hand. I keep my right needle almost still and do most of the work with my left hand. I'm intrigued with the cotton/merino blends, and would like to try knitting some summer knitwear with these. But there's still so much yarn that I already have which I should/want to use first. ;) Interested to hear more about your experience with the KfO cotton merino and how it holds up. :)
@highfiberknits
@highfiberknits 4 месяца назад
So true! I’ve never really mentioned being left handed since I still knit right handed, but now that I’m learning to crochet I feel I bit clumsy with the hook in my right hand lol
@Julia-lz8vl
@Julia-lz8vl 4 месяца назад
@@highfiberknits That is probably the main reason why I have never learnt how to crochet. After seeing your crochet project I thought maybe I should give it a try, because that variegated yarn looked so beautiful in your FO. But then I remembered that I would either have to use my right hand or find videos to learn "leftie-style". 😅 Maybe I will figure that out at some point in the future. ;)
