That’s a good EJ&E 6 axle locomotive mixed freight there and a Iowa northern train B yard in Waterloo Iowa and a north bound CN grain train in Waverley Iowa awesome UP train actions and night mode actions in montour Iowa red great to see that 👍😄😄😄
Great video Red! Some unusually short trains at the beginning before you got to the longer ones. Short compared to what you usually catch anyway. I love the coal trains and seeing the dogs play. It was cool. Looked like a beautiful day there in Iowa. Thanks 👍. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
All kinds of stuff in this video. Nice, Red!! Love the Creamsicle train, EJ&E, haha! Check out the bird just missing your drone @ 12:28. That bird is an uninsured flyer. Seems the only place which is bird free is your property on the Clinton. I'm also noticing UP hauling more & more STG Logistics containers there as well as out here in CA. Got a nice contract, which is good🦅🐦🦅
Thanks Bekleidung! Yes the orange EJ&E puts a nice twist on the color contrast👍It is strange that birds steer clear of me in Montour. Hopefully with nesting season passed I see less problems. Love the Scneider containers for the colors and of course UP revenue!$👍
The empty coal surprised me with one engine. He did a good job too. Then the loaded only had 2 engines ,I thought what gives lol. The double coal had all the engines lol. Love the sound of dpu working. When you chase them are you in sport mode. Thank you for another great video
You're welcome David! Yes that one unit seemed to keep the speed up well. I do go to sport mode when chasing the faster trains. The downfall is that it disables the obstacle avoidance system!
It seems very busy with the trains and we have some rain and sunshine as well and at least the trains let you know they are near with the air horn thanks
It is nice to see that the former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railroad SD38-2 was still working in revenue service in Waterloo, Iowa. Is the Iowa Northern Railway in need of extra motive power? That HLCX engine on the Iowa Northern Railway freight could mean that the Iowa Northern has to lease motive power or they are transferring that HLCX engine from one interchange point to another interchange point. You managed to catch a lot of action on the Union Pacific Railroad's east/west mainline through Montour, Iowa on 8 September 2023, Red! I liked all the daytime action along with the drone footage. The night mode trains passing through Montour also looked great.
Thanks Thomas! I think the CN has at least 2 of those EJ&E units in original paint yet. Not sure what's up with the lease power on the Iowa Northern. They seem to try out lease power here and there. Traffic seems to be up on the UP lately. Hopefully that's a sign of better economy!
What a mix of trains. Someday you need to catch the Iowa Northern as it moves to or from the CN tracks and their yard. Which railroad services the line to International Paper and out to Northland Products. That’s one steep grade they have to climb on the bridge over US 218.
Lot of traveling around on this one Sandy! My "Push Pull" video shows the Iowa Northern going from the CN to their home rails and the old CGW yard. The CN services the paper company and Northland. Yes that is a very steep hill to Northland. I heard they usually service Northland at night.
Really covering the area on this tape. The poor EJ&E unit looks like a badly faded tangerine but still works well so can't knock it. Those two gondolas were most likely carrying shredded autos. With the exception of some tank cars up front IANR was like a unit train of uniform covered hoppers. Once again every one of those container and priority trains was whipping along. The single unit westbound empty coal most likely WP&L out of Portage WI while the EB double coal.was probably WI Public Service @ Weston and balance most likely a lower Michigan utility. General Freight near the rear had a box cutter missing its door and then the 15 empty Flats which normally are going the other direction to load at John Deere. As long as you didn't have to breathe it that was some great dust off that CN Freight. Hopefully some rain this coming week as even Wisconsin has 85% varied draught
Yes Paul I got around on this one. Once in awhile the CN will put that EJ&E on the road even. Usually it's just a switcher around here. I wondered what the scrap was from. I've seen more coal lately on my Montour visits, not sure if it means anything. It's the driest anyone has seen it around here. Hopefully the trees can survive it!
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 if it's anything like the late 60s and early 70s but those were the pre-unit train days it's a good possibility some of these utilities are trying to restock depleted coal piles. They'd run till about Thanksgiving and the CNW trains would be a mix of Southern Illinois coal in old hoppers from CNW. MP. CEI. CBQ. IC. MSTL pulled by a mix of 3 GP7 or GP9 with 1 or 2 FM H16-66. The sound and the smoke combined with the shaking ground and swirling leaves was fantastic. These were going to Sheboygan WI and often times ran as an extra on Sundays
Another hit, Red!!! I think you should explain what a slug is for the audience. I know one when I see one but don't understand the concept, fully. Why don't the big RR's use them when running across the country?
Thanks Dan L! I'll try and remember to describe slugs next time I catch one. Not sure why the big railroads don't use them. It may have something to do with fuel capacity and range. Iowa Northern doesn't have to go too far.
That might not have been a slug , could have been a fuel car . Saw same set up in Florida on Florida East Coast trains. Asked worker , and he said they dont stop to refuel on run from Miami to Jacksonville. Also told me they ran on propane ! Nice video Red
@@chrisshaw4228 Thanks Chris! I went to Florida a couple years ago and caught the FEC. They run some engines on natural gas. The Iowa Northern doesn't run extra fuel cars just slugs👍
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 I know the rails tilt in and the wheels are made to center correct. I'm just wondering if the flats of the wheels are worn out. Not just the flanges.
If your 'Hump Yard in Action' video has 430k views, I think that if you verbally asked people to subscribe at the end/or beginning...you'd have more subscribers. You've got some nice vid's here...if you had more subscribers...more people would see them
Interesting that Alter Metal has a facility in Waterloo, they also have one in East Kingsford Michigan, on the Escanaba and Lake Superior, and its filmed by Jason Asselin.
