Years ago we used to put our metal paint kettles in very hot water, the gloss paint would naturally thin down with the heat rather than adding thinners, this would maintain the high gloss as thinning with white spirit reduces the gloss the more you add. Hope this helps.

Spot on pal ! We used to put tins on radiators with heating full blast for half hour open windows give it 15mins then blast doors/ frames & skirts with mini roller and lay off or use one of those slow cooker types pots to warm gloss up! No turps needed & like you say doesn't loose any sheen!

In 25 years of decorating, I've never worked for a firm or a developer that would allow that kind of finish on a door. Not saying there aren't any or you're not allowed to, but I've never come across it and I've seen people sent on their way for producing that kind of finish. If you put a neat undercoat on and lay that off with a brush, you can roll your gloss with a decent roller and the gloss will find its levels over the previous brush lines making it look like a brush finish. This just looks like he's gone at it with a roller start to finish. Not for me that one.

As a former Painter/Decorator, I used to apply 2 full coats of undercoat and gloss straight from the tin, without thinning down; then I would lay off with a brush to a high gloss finish.

Neat treacle straight out the tin, fully rolled , with no sign of brush marks but every sign of an overloaded deep pile roller 😂 , I wonder if he rolled the original hinges too and they had to replace them!? 😂 ...another thing that made me laugh was how surprised matey sounded about the sheen on the gloss ....how much white spirit/ turns do you use in yours to flatten the sheen off so much that you're actually surprised how good the gloss can look when the product isn't thinned down ?? 🤣😄🙈

Looks 100% roller with something like Owatrol Oil added to it and laid off badly or maybe not ab all. I done a kitchen unit door in Tikkurila | Miranol gloss warmed up and using a small amount of Owatrol Oil and a cap of white spirits, it was like car paint once dry, like it was brand new, not a roller or brush mark, took 24 to dry tho!. That door has huge amounts of roller stipple, I wouldn't say its a nice gloss like that TBH, but the doors come pre coated with wood grain, would have to fill those and re sand before painting.

Linseed oil and no thinners is my guess but it takes a good while to dry which causes dust problems in new builds. I would have laid off with a three inch brush for an incredible finish and would have only added 5 minutes extra time a door. I know time is money i house bash for a living myself, but it would only work out an extra hour on the plot and would have been a legendary finish. I am afraid as good as my glossing is theres always plenty of thinners used. Site agents seem happy though.

How come these doors haven't been laid of with a brush? On the sites we've been on, those doors would get pulled up straight away for the heavy stipple. On the high gloss finish. Perhaps they were using Dulux high gloss and double coating them? By personal experience, you don't seem to get much of a shine with Crown gloss.
