Great breakdown. I just bought the green works from my local tractor supply and I love it. We had grass from 14-28 inches high (lots of land and the tractor broke). It took alittle time, but I got around 1/4 acre down to 4" with it. I will say my biggest complaint would be the choke delay. I cleared it out a few times and it still fought me to restart. Otherwise it was amazing. And being the cheapest option demo'd, I'm glad to see it holds its own here as well as it does.

Realistically, if this were my lawn, I’d do several passes with the bag, each time lowering the deck by one. Perhaps start with 7, then 6, then 5-the lawn should look significantly better kept after the third run. Still love my EGO with 10AH battery. I do notice, however, that the higher the deck with the EGO, the less up draft. For my Tall Fescue yard, I keep it at #5. Would love to go #7, but there’s much less suction, and the yard doesn’t look smooth after the cut. So #5 it is, which still looks great. All in all, for this convenience, I’m sold on the battery over the gas.

It should be noted that the Milwaukee comes with an extremely dull blade so it needs to be sharpened(not sure why they did that), and it's something I confirmed through searching online. Not sure how other mowers' blades come, but I was a bit disappointed with the cut quality at first but after sharpening it was perfect. Just FYI

Really would like a tall grass side discharge comparison. This week in NY the grass grew like crazy from cool Temps and rain. My ego just does not work well with its rear discharge chute. Clogs every 10 ft. Doesn't shut off by clogs up and it's a mess of grass and missed clippings. The toro timemaster with an actual side discharge handles it no problem. If the engineers would have opened the rear discharge chute wider and aimed it to the left to avoid the sudden change in direction the grass encounters coming out going to the right, it'd be a pretty damn near perfect mower.
@robertthompson3447

Never been happy with my EGO side discharge. It is a cute design for small loads. I used my Milwaukee side discharge for the first time today and was very pleased with it. I have modified my blade for better vortex, but only as much at the EGO's high lift blade would provide. I like that the Milwaukee side discharge doesn't try to redirect the cuttings. It just shields the user from the flow of the cuttings.

@@makingstuff242 When I put it on the round pyramid floating balancer thingy, I got it pretty close. And I don't get any weird vibrations even when I'm running the motor at the higher rpms. I'm not sure what the extra load is going to do to the life of the motor? 🤔 Or how the extra vortex is going to interfere with the cooling fan behind the blade? So while the blade may not be heavier on the left or right, I don't know what other things might now be out of "balance."

I went with the ego after watching many videos comparing these 3 exact mowers. I really wanted the get the greenworks as I love my power washer, but the problems with the battery and customer service turned me off. The opposite was true of the ego, battery issues got replaced quickly. The milwaukee was just too expensive for what it was. However, I found that setting level 5 seems to be the sweetspot for my yard (no idea what type of grass, I'm not that into yard work/knowledge)

I've tortured my greenworks pro 21" 60v a few times. My back yard is all natural, like a field. When we get heavy rains, the grass and weeds can quickly get up to 4-5 feet tall (several different wild grasses, wild lettuce, and dandelions). My Greenworks will chew through it no problems as long as I go slow by lifting the front of the mower and slowly bringing it down. If I go too fast, it will stall. My neighbor has a gas powered Honda and his stalls just as easily when the grass gets super tall. It also helps to flip it over and sharpen the blades real quick before each use with my milwaukee rotary tool. Only takes about 5 minutes to do both edges. A 4AH battery also only lasts about 800 square feet when the grass is this tall, so it takes multiple charges and battery swaps. The last time I had to do this was a year ago when we had rain every day for 20 days. Had to wait until it stopped raining and the ground dried up. Usually it gets mow once a month.

There is no set standard to determine exactly what the blade height will be for each adjustment setting on every model. Variations such as the wheel size, blade size, engine crankshaft design and adjustment components must be considered when determining the cutting height settings. Although I am of the opinion that the Ego mower is the better of the three, I am not sure the Greenworks got a fair shake. It's cut swaths were visibly yellower which is indicative of a lower cut, which might explain why many of the commenters reported a different experience.

3:00 opps the milwaukee got the edge cut and not a full width just saying from my xp the more you overlap over the edge the less the gas engine bogs in deep stuff. However the choke test was the answer to my curiosity. I'm also curious if "Turbo" mode would have helped greenworks perform better.

The cord is definitely a pain - batteries are pricey but the convenience is unbeatable! For some jobs I used the Ego Nexus to power the corded chainsaw, but unfortunately the 2000W limit of the Nexus proved limiting and I had to go easy or frequently reset the Nexus. Pretty amazing that the battery chainsaw can do the same work as the corded without the headaches. Hoping that Ego comes out with a 3000W inverter in the future though. Best news? Ego sent a brand new chainsaw to replace the one that stopped working. Awesome warranty support!

But for me, I just can't get past that it looks like a spaceship or like it might transform into a robot or something. Plus, I prefer having a steel deck. I'm sure the Ego is plenty tough, but I just prefer steel... and also the 'traditional' mower look. I ended up going with the Snapper 82v, which had good reviews and was one of the most powerful at the time (I think still ranks near the top). Got the 2 battery package, so by the time 1 dies, the other would be fully charged. Very satisfied. If I were looking today, I would probably lean toward the Milwaukee... but that price - ouch! To be honest, I'd probably go with Snapper again and save $500. But there are lot of solid choices out there these days - more than back when I was looking. That's why I enjoy watching videos like this. Good job.

I think the metal deck and kickers on the Toro actually impede it when mulching a higher thick Fescue grass. it gets really clogged up. While the fine grass tends to not stick to the Ego plastic deck. I also did a two blade conversion to my old Ego and it cuts great with the green dual ego high lift kit.

The truth of the matter is the cut quality of electric mowers still can't compare with the gas versions. It all boils down to rpm speed where the gas versions are all powerful enough to lift the long grass for the blade to slice through. I am disappointed with the Ego Select Cut twin blade that just does not have the suction power to lift any tall grass. I've switched from a Honda mower to Ego and not entirely happy with the cut quality.

I got the Greenworks 21" Pro dual battery because there was a memorial day sale, $300 off. I have mostly Milwaukee stuff but the $1000 price tag of their mower was a bit much to stomach. The GW comes with two 4.0AH batteries. The mower switches back and forth between them as you mow. When I finished the batteries were both half depleted, so it works out well for me. I mowed the front which was pretty dry and long and it had no trouble. The side yard was a little taller and wet. The mower would start to drop grass when the bag was about half full because the wet grass was heavy and wasn't being blown to the back of the bag. But the mower never struggled and never needed to speed up. It comes with a higher lift blade that I haven't tried yet. But my plan is to only bag when its tall and mulch the rest of the time, so the bag won't be an issue anyway. I am very, very pleased with the GW. The side discharge is on the side where it belongs, mulch plug is easy to remove and install, and the bag is a piece of cake to remove and install also. I dont think I would pay full retail of $600 for it, or any mower. but at the sale price I got it at I couldn't be happier.

Grass at 14" would be difficult on any push mower in existence. Grass that tall would have to be mowed more than 2 times. Grass this tall and that thick is very difficult to mow, regardless of gas or electric. I wouldn't put all my decision making on this 14" exhibition. Using past experience as a guide, I would say this demo just provides a power ability rather than a cutting ability. But either of the 3 would most likely cut grass at a weekly level of growth without any trouble.

First let me start by saying great comparison video test, well done and well executed. I’m not in the market for a battery mower I have a large yard that I mow with 2 kubota diesel tractors ( my adult son uses one when he’s off and can help ), if I was in the market for a battery mower I think I would choose the Milwaukee. I like the fact the Milwaukee batteries would also fit my other Milwaukee power tools as well. that’s a big selling point fo me because I don’t have to invest in other batteries for different tools, kind of one size fits all. Once again great video thanks for the time and effort it takes to put it all together.

Just got the greenworks today on sale for 499. I'm coming from a gas Toro personal pace mower. When you consider the price I believe the greenworks wins. It's 500 less than the Milwaukee and 200 less than the ego. I mowed my lawn today (takes an hour) and still had one full battery left. One big thing with greenworks is battery cost. Extra batteries are well under 200.

I bought property with yard and pasture that was neglected for over a decade, and the same Ego mower. Wow did it impress! Grass has been growing all year, and I mowed it down along with thorny wild roses, small tree saplings, etc. Don't really recommend that as there's some obvious wear and tear under the deck and the blades look terrible, but it got the needful done. I had to mow literally several acres of grass cutting a driveway into the place along with enough room to move a large RV in. Initially I used the mulching blade that came attached, but then switched to the efficiency blade with side eject. That clogged up a lot, but switching to the high lift blade with the side eject worked best. I probably ought to have bagged it but would have been having to empty the bag every couple minutes with as thick and tall as the grass was. I've been very happy with all the Ego tools and can't wait to eventually get a zero turn riding mower...

Please do vibration test in your mower videos. No lawn is worth damaging your nerve. I mulch all the time and twice weekly so please include the Milwaukee high lift blade and also add in vibration test. Vibration test is also why I have high respect for project farm channel. His test helped me decice which string trimmer. By the time you trim your lawn and mow (which you should normally do together) I can’t feel my hands anymore.

I have the Milwaukee weed trimmer so my thinking was always to get a 12 ah battery to go with it. Thise batteries cost $250 a piece and the mower comes with 2. So you're actually paying $500 for the mower and $500 for the two batteries. That's how I approached the purchase and if the prices are rising, well if you didn't get a mower prior you're looking at it entirely differently.
@swiftjunk3692
@swiftjunk3692 2 года назад
Yep. That is exactly why I bought it. I would have bought the 2 12.0 batteries for my Miter and table saws eventually. It also came with the dual rapid charger in addition to the two batteries which is about 100 bucks. The 12.0s were a little heavy in the Trimmer and Blower but one 6.0 High Output gets me though trimming with still enough life to pop it into the blower.
