This is why Foekoe is good at reviewing, HE ACTUALLY LOOKS AT THE GAMEPLAY I feel like some people criticize the biggest seller then ignor the other parts of the game and I love that
He's just so good at reviewing that he didn't even play Pokemon Scarlet but will endlessly shit on it from other people's opinions and cherrypicked glitches, when in reality it's just an above average Pokemon game that performs poorly. I'd hate to have to hear his opinion on it if I told him to not use the word "glitchy".
@@MiscTheGhost yeah i hope he gets to eventually see the game or at least play it so that he can review it outside of "ofoehdu b1fubwfibeifb3 it has glitches 0/10"
you know that reminds me of a youtuber and twitch streamer that is filled with envy and greed i'll give you a hint:his name starts with a y and ends with a t
Comedy is one of the hardest forms of entertainment to master and even if you are a master of it, people will still criticise you comedy takes many forms and shapes so from a different perspective it is funny
I can't believe you didn't talk about lezduit. He has such a deep and emotional backstory, and they way he says "Lezduit!" Is simply breathtaking. Other than that good videoe I guess 😃
eh, it's a bit try hard at times with them being meta constantly with talks of sequels, game design, cliché and bits of lamp shading sprinkled throughout
This is one of those games that is no where near perfect but has some really good potential. If we just shit on projects like these they can't go anywhere which is really upsetting
A fair and objective review. Always happy to see someone reviewing a game for what it is trying to be, Not because of what they want a game to be like. Merry Christmas.
Being their second game, most faults can be forgiven. However, some parts really feel really restrictive, even when given a choice (very mild spoils) I knew the whole “you killed a kid” gag was coming up and ignored it to go get the knife so I could then return and execute them. However, when I returned the kid npc was gone, and I was rightfully mad they didn’t think of this particular situation and added something (like pressing the pause button in the tutorial). Also the 6-torg optional kill was really nothing, I was going to not kill them, but there is no reason to not to from what I know of after you listen to all their voice lines, so I killed them for a potential achievement. The choices I made weren’t choices at all really, if you don’t go with a gag you lose in some way, so it just feels pretty restrictive to me.
My criticism with the comedy on this game is that they don't know when to shut up, which it was something that everyone complained too in Borderlands 3. You go around playing the game and then they show you/make a joke about something and it may be funny or not (comedy is "subjective" anyways), that's not a problem and I like these type of jokes in video games (Undertale is one of my favorites and they do that), but the thing is they draw out the joke so fucking much and they never stop talking that the joke that was supposed to be funny turns out unfunny. Like, in a scene they reference anime and the gun says "wow this is like that anime and shit", a normal reference joke but then he talks and talks and lenghten the joke to no further and like, I get it, "funny anime that people know about lol", I got the joke so STOP. You just make the joke and that's it, why it has to be an entire pargraph? It gets so frustrating.
As somebody with over 1000 hours on Borderlands 3, High on Life made me understand the criticism towards Borderlands 3 and its dialogue. Normally "bad" dialogue isn't a dealbreaker for me, but combine the game not shutting up at times with technical problems like (in my case at least) a softlock when a boss is almost dead, I was genuinely too frustrated to continue. I'm sure it will get fixed, and I hope it does, because I would actually like to finish the game without feeling like I'm hate playing it, if that makes sense.
I’ll be real, I actually love playing this game. I just hate that it crashes every 20 minutes while playing on PC Game Pass, because I can’t justify a $60 price tag for a 13 hour campaign…
What I really liked in High on Life and Trover is how the world really feels alive with the amount of personalised dialog. It feels like they put a lot of effort into that and I would say it payed of, even if some jokes are bad.
I didn’t mind the dialogue because the humor did make me laugh sometimes, despite being unfunny and also dragged out some other times. The game was really fun for me and I was not expecting to have that much fun with it (again, despite having little to no enemy variety). People disliking it and putting it aside because “tHe humOr suCks” is pretty unfair to the game in my opinion, even if not all the jokes land
One criticism i have is that they did not make it clear that the guns could be upgraded, so i just played through the game without upgrading and while it was still fun, i wish i knew about it before.
High On Life works best when it does small scale bits. I don't like the Moplet dying joke scene, but I can appreciate it and understand people like that. When it does long bits they create problems which can kill the entire bit. These long bits are likely where the hate comes from, discussing Kenny's backstory here! So Kenny is revealed later to have left with a Smuggler who landed on their home planet. The G3 found them and Kenny takes the blame The Smuggler who was going to leave was never going to mention talking guns or a planet with space to build? Even if Kenny killed him there is a risk of someone looking for said Smuggler's wreck. Blaming Kenny for this seems really dumb when you use your head. Who is blaming Kenny? Only your allies. Not once do I recall any of the G3 mentioning this. The same allies who Kenny has fought along side willingly to get revenge. No character growth even comes from it. There is a trip later where they work through it. They then immediately go back to hating Kenny. If the G3 revealed it then it would've at least been meaningful to do. There is 0 pay off, not even really a joke, and it contributes nothing to the main plot at all. It is made even worse when you consider Lezduit can only say their name and Kenny outright says he never had to tell everyone. Pure artificial conflict the entire way through. None of this works in any form. Given a lot of people look for the big emotional scene to get into a series... if all you see are jokes that don't work for you and this it can make you despise the game because you see the game at its worst.
I watch someone play it and it looks really fun. The jokes can be not funny but some are hilarious and the guns have lots of character to them. It on game pass so it free for people who own game pass and I recommend it.
The only problem I have with this game isn’t even a big problem, just a nitpick, Sometimes the characters feel emotionless like the NPC’s, they just stand still and move their mouths, idk it makes it feel empty
I'd lower the chatter in a heartbeat but I like Justin Roiland's style of humor and storytelling in Rick and Morty and The Wall in Solar Opposites. I might give the game a shot when I'm bored of other games.
I've mostly just heard it sucks because of it's mediocrity which is to mean that it doesn't actually suck it just doesn't do anything worth writing home about which is fair, a lot of games fall flat but are still solid games regardless. On a different note: Pre-Sequel's talking gun > Knife :b
My personal problem is the price of it. If it were something akin to 20 or 30€, then maybe I'd give it a shot. But fact is that it costs 50€ for not a whole lot of gameplay. With that money I could get Doom, Elden Ring, or many other triple A games I've been meaning to try.
I’ve seen that the game is quite good, but I keep feeling that the humor style of constant rambling of the situation starts to get old quick. I wouldn’t demotivate someone to try it due to that, but that feeling still sticks to the back of my head.
A quote that I forgor who said it says “If a flaw doesn’t take away from your enjoyment, it is not a flaw.” And it makes sense if you love a title but there’s something you don’t like about it and you don’t need to interact with it it’s fine just leave it alone and you can enjoy it but people scope out every detail to try and find something wrong with everything and it gets tiring
Honestly, I really enjoyed the game. It was different and the gameplay was pretty fun, the dialogue (for me from kenny) became a bit much at times but it wasn't a massive killer for me. The only thing that will ruin it for me is that I don't think there's enough there to get me to replay it but I did enjoy my playthrough.
